Panther II - BasicsPanther II - Basics

Panther II detects intruders with an invisible electromagnetic detection field using ported coax sensor cables and electronics. Characteristics

• Panther II directly responds to specific human intruder characteristics - size, motion and electromagnetic profile– high Probability of Detection (Pd) >99%

• Small animals and environmental effects have a much smaller electromagnetic profile and are disregarded– assures low False/Nuisance Alarm Rate

(FAR/NAR)• Wide velocity response, high Pd and covertness

– provide very low Vulnerability to Defeat.

Panther II - Sensing ConceptPanther II - Sensing Concept

• Panther II processor transmits an “RF” signal via the center conductor of one sensor cable (TX)– RF signal “leaks” out through a “port” in the cable

• A second sensor cable acts as a receiver (RX)• RF energy produces an electromagnetic field around both

cables:– volumetric & invisible

– along the length of the zone

– above and below ground

– 1 m (3.3 ft.) high and up to 3 m (10 ft.) wide

– up to 150 m (500 ft.) long

– A single processor covers two zones:– Total perimeter up to 300 m (1000 ft.)

Panther II: How human intruders are Panther II: How human intruders are detecteddetected

• Humans have large electromagnetic profiles at the RF wavelength transmitted by the processor– Humans moving through the field

significantly change the RF signal

• TX and RX signals (phase and amplitude) are compared by the processor– processor declares an alarm when a

preset threshold is exceeded

• Other moving objects with large electro-magnetic profiles will also be detected – e.g., cars, trucks, aircraft

Panther II - Why FAR/NAR is naturally lowPanther II - Why FAR/NAR is naturally low

• False alarms are usually equipment generated– Panther II uses field proven detection algorithms

and environmentally tested electronics

• Nuisance alarms sources are typically small animals and environment– Panther II does not detect small animals and

environmental effects because they have small electromagnetic profiles

– Panther II completely ignores environmental stimuli that have no electromagnetic profile – grass, sunlight, wind, shadows etc.

Panther II - Why VD is very lowPanther II - Why VD is very low

• Panther II has an invisible detection field– if the sensor cannot be seen it is difficult to determine

its location, its sensing technology, and hence, is more difficult to defeat

• Panther II has a very wide velocity range– extends from 0.02 to 15 m/s (0.008 to 49 ft./sec.)– widest range of any sensor

• Combined effect of high PD, wide velocity range and covertness ensures low VD

– better than any other outdoor sensor

Panther II - Sensor CablesPanther II - Sensor Cables

• SC1 - transmit and receive cables are in one cable jacket– single trench for standard detection field

• high density polyethylene jacket with flooding compounds– rugged, abrasion and chemical resistant

• standard lengths: – 100, 150 m (328, 492 ft)

– cut cable to the desired zone length

– Additional Lead-in: 50 m (164 ft)

• burial depths: – soil - 23 cm (9 in), concrete - 6 cm (2.5 in)

Panther II - Application ConsiderationsPanther II - Application Considerations

• Panther II can be buried in virtually any type of material– sand, clay, topsoil, rock, concrete, asphalt– buried 23 cm (9 in) in soft materials; 6 cm (2.5 in) in

hard materials• Panther II can be installed in most any type of terrain

– flat, hilly, around corners• Surface may include lawns (including sprinkler systems),

crushed stone, including landscaped areas with shrubs, flowers and trees

Panther II: Open PerimetersPanther II: Open Perimeters

• Total active perimeter length up to 300 m (1000 ft.)– Lead-in from the perimeter to the processor up to 50 m (164 ft.)

Page 10: Panther II Buried Cable Intrusion Detection Sensor Intelligent - Adaptive - Covert - Secure.

Panther II: Closed PerimetersPanther II: Closed Perimeters

• Total active perimeter length up to 300 m (1000 ft.)– Lead-in from the perimeter to the processor up to 50 m (164 ft.)

Panther II - Application GuidelinesPanther II - Application Guidelines

• Panther II is designed for the optimum security clear zone width of 6 m (20 ft)

• Sensor cables may be located as close as 3 m (10 ft.) from chain link fences and buildings with normal soils– or closer to rigid weld-mesh or palisade fencing

• Sensor cables should avoid puddles or streams – water movement could cause nuisance alarms

• Sensor cables should be located 5 m (16 ft) from roads to avoid detecting large vehicles

• Microwave or infrared sensors are often used at gate zones

Panther II: Application Guidelines Panther II: Application Guidelines (continued)(continued)

• Sensor cables may cross large non-metallic water pipes by shielding area with sheet metal

• Sensor cables may be installed in areas with high voltage power lines (e.g., 400 kV) and where radar and communications devices are located (e.g., airports, military installations)– Panther II operates in a non-communications band

• In high lightning incidence areas, external gas discharge lightning arrestors are recommended to further protect electronics

• CCTV or other visual means of alarm assessment is highly recommended to confirm alarms and required level of response

• Consult Senstar-Stellar for special site application questions.
