JANUARY 2014
SHORT TERM COURSE ON DIGITAL IMAGE PROCESSING
USING MATLAB – SIMULATION SOFTWARE
Short term course on “DIGITAL IMAGE PROCESSING USING MATLAB –
SIMULATION SOFTWARE” for Third Year ECE students during 06th
to 10th
JANUARY
2014. The topics covered included: Basics of Image Processing, Image Enhancement,
Compression, Restoration & Segmentation Techniques and Image Processing using MATLAB. In
addition, the participants were given hands-on training using MATLAB. The Short Term Course
attracted 148 participants who felt it extremely beneficial and gained knowledge on image
processing and to write programs for various Image processing applications using MATLAB.
PIT- IEEE Student Branch in association with department of ECE & EEE Organized a series of
Events for the development of students and to bring out their talents.
TECH QUIZ
About 50 students attended the quiz prelims held on 8th January 2014 from which 6 teams were
short listed for the second round & among which two teams were selected for the Final. The
finalist underwent through three levels of quizzing which covered almost all the possible fields in
engineering. The winners of the contest were: N.P.Ria, H.Sandhya Bhargavi, R.M Premihaa of
II Year ECE.
CIRCUIT DEBUGGING
“Circuit debugging” contest was held on 22nd
January 2014 to tap the hidden talent of IEEE
students. 10 teams responded to the call of the event. The contestants who won in the contest were:
N.P.Ria, H.Sandhya Bhargavi, R.M Premihaa of II Year ECE.

PAPER PRESENTATION
Paper Presentation contest held on 23rd
January 2014 to unleash the potential of the IEEE
student members. Out of seven papers presented, the paper presented by P. Vivek Anand,
C.Arvind, J.Ranjith Kumar and A.Khadar Shareef of third year ECE on “Accident Prevention
Using Intelligent Breaking” won the best innovative paper award.
BASIC C, C++ & APTITUDE QUIZ
Basic C, C++ & Aptitude Quiz contest for IEEE students on 29/01/2014 to provide the students
an opportunity to showcase their skills & assess how strong they are in aptitude, C and C++. A
total of 20 teams participated in this quiz and P.Sangeetha, P.Lavanya of third year ECE along
with G.Hima Bindu , M.Rajasumapriya of second year ECE bagged the first prize.
WORKSHOP ON MSP 430 & ARDUINO MICROCONTROLLER
Workshop on “MSP 430 & ARDUINO MICROCONTROLLER” was conducted for Third
Year ECE students during 20th
to 24th
JANUARY 2014. Workshop gave an in-depth introduction
into MSP430 basics. The hands-on workshop provided lab exercises how to program any MSP430
device. Also the workshop helped students learn the principles associated with Arduino hardware
and software. Emphasis is given to applied knowledge of the principles by exposing the students
to live working projects.
SHORT TERM COURSE ON ANALOG SYSTEM DESIGN USING
TEXAS INSTRUMENTS ASLKV 2010 STARTER KIT
Short term course (STC) on “Analog system Design Using Texas Instruments ASLKV 2010
STARTER KIT” for second Year ECE students during 20th
to 24th
JANUARY 2014.
STC exposed the students to the world of analog from system design perspective. The course
enabled the student to understand and address the challenges as a system designer. Course helped
the students learn that as a system designer how they would reason out the right integrated circuit
for the right application and also take decisions on how the system level cost or power or
performance can be optimized and perform tradeoffs of various design parameters.
