Panic Room detailed analysis: The representation of the Panic Room is presented using non- diegetic dramatic music. This connotes that there may lie trouble head indicating it is a negative representation. There is also a number of establishing shots of New York connoting that the city is busy and cramped this connotes a feeling of being trapped between the different buildings. This could also connote that there is an uncertainty of where the panic room with the only clue it is giving the audience is that it is around the streets of New York. The use of media language is portrayed in this opening through the use of lighting, camera angles and editing. Due to the use of low-key lighting this connotes a rather depressing atmosphere. Near the end of the opening there is an establishing shot over looking a park and city buildings, with a female voice in the background informing the other lady facts about the statistics of the panic room. This connotes that she isn’t trapped yet but instead a lady looking to find a safe way of getting in an out. The editing technique used to build suspense in the opening is the fast pace cuts to create a sense of isolation between the different buildings. To detect the genre of this film opening is very difficult as not much is given away, but due the sinister use of music it leads me to believe that it is an Action/ Thriller movie as there is a non-diegetic ticking noise after the film title appears connoting that there is a limited amount of time or that a number of people have to work against the clock. The narrative of this film opening leads me to believe that it will involve one or more characters trapped in the panic room as
