Display
The handset shows you information and instructions on the display. The display prompts are shown below.
The Caller List is empty. This is displayed whilethe handset is on the base unit.
The battery needs to be charged. Place thehandset on the base unit to charge the battery (p. 13).
The display shows the number of new calls andthe battery strength while the handset is on thebase unit.
This display will be shown when:— you lift the handset off the base unit, or — Ü or á is pressed when the handset is off
the base unit.To search from the most recent call, press Ö.To search from the oldest call, press Ñ (p. 30).
When the handset ringer volume is set to OFF (p. 19), “Ringer off” will flash for about 45seconds before the handset returns to thestandby mode (p. 13).
When a call is received, the display shows thecaller’s phone number after the first ring.

During a conversation, the display shows thelength of the call (ex. 1 hour, 6 minutes and 35seconds). The battery strength is also displayed(p. 12).
The handset has lost communication with thebase unit. Place the handset on the base unitand try again.
This is information from the Caller List. The display shows:— the caller’s phone number,— the time and date of the last call
(ex. Dec. 20, 11:20 AM), and — the number of times called (ex. 3 times).
This is a name from the directory. The storedname and phone number are displayed.
The base unit is paging the handset (p. 46).
The handset and the base unit are in theintercom mode (p. 46).
An outside call using the handset has been puton hold by pressing (HOLD/RINGER). To releasethe hold, press (TALK) or (DIGITAL!SP-PHONE)(p. 25).

Battery information
After your Panasonic battery is fully charged (p. 12):
•The battery operating time may be shortened depending on usage conditions,such as viewing the Caller ID Caller List or directory list, and ambienttemperature.
•Clean the handset and the base unit charge contacts with a soft, dry clothonce a month. Clean more often if the unit is subject to grease, dust orhigh humidity. Otherwise the battery may not charge properly.
•If the battery is fully charged, you do not have to place the handset on the baseunit until “Recharge” is displayed and/or “ ” flashes. This will maximize thebattery life.
•The battery cannot be overcharged.

Recharge the battery when:—“Recharge” is displayed on the handset,—“ ” flashes on the display, or—the handset beeps intermittently while it is in use.
•If you DO NOT recharge the handset battery for more than 30 minutes, thedisplay will keep indicating “Recharge” and/or “ ” will continue to flash.

Standby mode (While the handset is off the base unit)
The handset goes into the standby mode after you finish using thehandset (making/answering a call, viewing the Caller List or directory listetc.). The display is blank, but the handset can receive calls. The batteryoperating time is conserved in this mode.

If a power failure occurs, you have to readjust the time and date. If youuse the handset for making/answering calls without adjusting the timeand date, the display in step 1 appears for 5 seconds after “Off” isdisplayed.

Simultaneous Keypad DialingYou can use the base unit like a standard telephone. After pressing(TALK) to make a call with the handset near the base unit, you can alsodial using the base unit keypad.

Useful information
You can enter numbers using the base unit keypad during a call with thehandset. For example, to access an answering service, electronic bankingservice, etc.
1. Handset:Press (TALK).
2. Handset:Dial a telephone number.•You can also dial with the base unit keypad.
3. Base unit:Enter the required numbers while listening to the pre-recordedinstructions.
4. Handset:To hang up, press (TALK) or place the handset on the base unit.

Answering Calls
When a call is received, the unit rings, “Incoming call” is displayed onthe handset and the CALLER ID indicator flashes quickly. If you subscribe to a Caller ID service, the calling party information will bedisplayed after the first ring (p. 28). In order to view the Caller IDinformation, please wait until the second ring to answer a call.
With the HandsetIf the handset is off the base unit, press (TALK).•You can also answer a call by pressing any dialingbutton (0) to (9), (*) or (#) (—Any Key Talk).

Caller ID Service
This unit is compatible with a Caller ID service offered by your telephonecompany. If you subscribe to a Caller ID service, the calling party’sinformation will be shown on the handset display after the first ring.
The unit can record information of up to 50 different callers in the CallerList. The Caller List information is sorted by the most recent to the oldestcall. When the 51st call is received, the first call is deleted.
Using the list, you can automatically call back a caller. You can store thecallers’ phone numbers from the Caller List into the directory.
How caller information is displayed when a call isreceived
*Private name display
If you receive a call from one of the samephone numbers stored in the directory, thecaller’s name will be displayed.•To use this function, names and phone numbersmust be stored in the directory (p. 38).

Automatic Security Code SettingEach time you place the handset on the base unit, the unit automaticallyselects one of more than a million security codes. These codes helpprevent the unauthorized use of your telephone line by another cordlesstelephone user.
For Call Waiting Service UsersPress (FLASH) if you hear a call-waiting tone while talking.•The first call is put on hold and you can answer the second call.•To return to the first caller, press (FLASH) again.•The call waiting service cannot be used when a parallel connected telephone isin use.

How to Use the PAUSE Button(For Analog PBX Line/Long Distance Service Users)

FLASH ButtonPressing (FLASH) allows you to use special features of your host PBXsuch as transferring an extension call or accessing special telephoneservices (optional) such as call waiting.
Selecting the flash time
The flash time depends on your telephone exchange or host PBX. You can select the following flash times: “700, 600, 400, 300, 250, 110,100 or 90 ms (milliseconds)”. Your phone comes from the factory set to“700 ms”. Make sure the unit is in the standby mode initially.

Battery Replacement
If “Recharge” is displayed and/or “ ” flashes after being fullycharged, replace the battery with a new Panasonic P-P102 battery. To avoid memory loss, replace within 3 minutes.

Problem
You cannot redial bypressing (REDIAL/PAUSE).
“Recharge” is displayed onthe handset, “ ” flashesor the unit beepsintermittently.
You charged the batteryfully, but “Recharge” is stilldisplayed and/or “ ”continues to flash.
The IN USE/CHARGEindicator light does not goout after the battery hasbeen charged.
Remedy
•If the last number dialed was more than32 digits long, the number will not beredialed correctly.
•Access numbers entered after pressing(TONE) will not be included whenredialing.
•The button has a double function aseither redial or pause. It will redial thelast number dialed if pressed at theoutset of a call (p. 22, 23, 25). If anothernumber has been dialed first, it willoperate as a pause button (p. 48).
•Charge the battery fully (p. 12).
•Clean the charge contacts and chargeagain (p. 13).
•Install a new battery (p. 52).

InstallationsEnvironment1) Do not use this unit near water— for example, near a bathtub,
washbowl, sink, etc. Damp basements should also be avoided. 2) The unit should be kept away from heat sources such as radiators,
kitchen range, etc. It also should not be placed in rooms where thetemperature is less than 5°C or greater than 40°C.
3) The AC adaptor is used as the main disconnect device, ensure thatthe AC outlet is located/installed near the unit and is easily accessible.
Placement 1) Do not place heavy objects on top of this unit.2) Care should be taken so that objects do not fall onto, and liquids are
not spilled into, the unit. Do not subject this unit to excessive smoke,dust, mechanical vibration or shock.
3) Place the unit on a flat surface.
For best performance1) If noise prevents the conversation from being understood at the
handset, approach the base unit to lessen the noise.2) The handset should be used at the HIGH volume setting when the
reception tone is difficult to hear.3) The handset should be fully recharged on the base unit when
“Recharge” is displayed and/or “ ” flashes.4) The handset antenna should not be touched during use because of its
high sensitivity.5) The maximum calling distance may be shortened when the unit is
used in the following places: Near obstacles such as hills, tunnels,undergrounds, near metal objects such as wire fences, etc.

If there is any trouble, disconnect the unit from the telephone line andconnect a known working phone. If the known working phone operatesproperly, do not reconnect the unit to the telephone line until the troublehas been repaired.
