Welcome to the 50th Annual Pan Orthodox Basketball Tournament!!
The Orthodox Youth Athletic Association (OYAA) and Pan Orthodox Tournament committee
would like to welcome all of the players, coaches, families and fans to our 50th
Annual Pan
Orthodox Basketball Tournament! From our first tournament in 1968, now to the 50th
consecutive time we’ve held this event, we’re thankful for all the support we have received and
continue to receive from our local churches as well as the many out-of-town programs/churches
who participate each year. Our league looks forward each year to welcoming in all of the
players, coaches and visitors to the Pan Orthodox Tournament.
The OYAA would like to thank all the volunteers who worked prior to and during the
Tournament to make the weekend successful, especially those supervising gyms, working the
scorer’s tables and concession stands. We would also like to thank the Assumption Greek
Orthodox Church, St. John Armenian Church, the Grosse Pointe Public School District and
particularly the staff at Brownell Middle School, Parcells Middle School, Pierce Middle School
and St. Clare Catholic School for allowing us to use their facilities throughout this weekend.
Lastly, we would like to wish each of you and safe and successful Tournament and a blessed
Lenten season, and we look forward to seeing everyone again on March 16-18, 2018 for our 51st
Annual Pan Orthodox Tournament!!

In loving memory of Lambros Milonas, a friend and teammate who I first met at Wayne State University early
in the 1950s while attending law school.
Lambros was a tenacious competitor who had a dream and vision which turned into reality when he became one of the
primary founders of the OYAA, and later of the Pan Orthodox Tournament, which will celebrate its 50th Tournament this
year. Lambros’s efforts have carried on even though we lost him at an early age.
Among those carrying on the torch is George Petrouleas, the
leader viewed by most of us as the “keeper of the keys”.
What a gift for so many that have been able to participate and enjoy the competition and also make so many good friends
over the years.
May the memory of Lambros Milonas be eternal.
Best wishes for a successful tournament weekend!
