Generic-4 semesters (2 years)

LVN to RN-2 semesters (1 year)

Currently a Monday – Saturday commitment but students must be flexible. Schedules vary and classes may be morning, afternoon or evening. Full time commitment!

LVN-RN Step UpStudents enter in the third semester of the Generic Program. Number of available spaces varies – .

LVN–RN Step Up is not subject to the generic application procedure. There is a separate LVN-RN Application with preadmission requirements.

Accepted applicants to the Nursing Program are based on a space available basis and are notified in April.

High School Graduation, Equivalency (GED) or higher degree Students must submit an unofficial copy of High School Diploma, high school transcript, GED certificate or transcript showing higher degree

Baccalaureate or higher degree from accredited U.S. Institution, they are exempt

from support or Gen Ed course work.

Test of Essential Academic Skills

(TEAS) Diagnostic test that covers Math, English, Reading & Science. The first score on the TEAS exam will be used for the application. Strongly recommend accessing resources on our website to prepare for the test.Applicants must have a minimum cumulative score of 62%. If below 62%, the TEAS exam can be repeated once after remediation than the second score is used for the application.You must have a Palomar College student ID to take the test.

Associate in Arts or Associate in Science

•Nursing Curriculum is identical. Students must declare a degree plan immediately after admission into the Nursing Program.•Both are transferable to four-year universities.

Legal Status Requirement

Clinical sites mandate that nursing students must be a legal resident.The BRN requires a SSN before graduates can sit for the NCLEX exam. Legal residents without a SSN can begin the Nursing Program but may not be accepted by a clinical site and therefore not be able to continue in the Nursing Program.
