Percentage of Targets Met Progress

• there was a high percentage of accomplishing the goals of the programs of Drinking and Driving and Speed;

• there was a high percentage of accomplishments of education and traffic engineering projects,

Challenges and Next Steps

• Improve the percentage goal fulfilment in enforcement actions;• continued awareness of decision makers of the city and the state for political

support and resources to continue the project in the years 2013 and 2014;• Empowerment of municipality comission of PVNT.

• Increment of speed electronic monitoring in the cities of Belo Horizonte and

Palmas;

• Increased number of traffic engineering interventions;

• Increase in the number of fining relating to driving above speed limit;

speed Challenges and Next Steps

• To identify the critical spots for speed risk factors and scale up interventions

on traffic engineering;

• To increase the number of electronic equipment's and engineering

interventions to reduce traffic speed;

• To monitor the percentage speeds above the permitted limits in cities roads

samples, using the methodology proposed by universities evaluators,

• training municipal teams for speed monitoring;

Drinking and DrivingProgress

• There was an increase in the number of alcohol tests between 2010 and

2012 in the cities of Belo Horizonte and Palmas;

• There was a reduction in the percentage of drivers testing positive in Belo

Horizonte and Palmas;

• There is percentage no difference in percentage of adults who drove after

consuming excessive alcohol amounts between 2011 and 2012 (VIGITEL);

• The municipalities of Teresina and Palmas are those with higher rates of

drinking and driving among the five cities;

• Curitiba showed reduction in victims of traffic crashes who were treated at

emergency care units and reported consumption of alcohol between the

2009 and 2011 (VIVA);

Challenges and Next Steps

• To Increase the number of alcohol tests performed on police road blocks and

expand measures to identify BAC under the law 12,760 of December 2012;

• To strengthen the enforcement actions in cities at strategic points and

continue to create a feeling in the population that one can be stopped in a

check points;

• To carry out continuous social marketing strategies simultaneously with

alcohol check points;

• Qualification of municipal teams to monitor the alcohol in the cities and

conducting periodic monitoring for evaluation of interventions.

Road Deaths

Progress

• There was a downward trend in the number of deaths between the second

half of 2010 and the second half of 2011 in all capitals (Linkage data);

• In the SIM data, there was reduction in Palmas, Teresina and Belo

Horizonte between the second half of 2010 and the second of 2011;

• There was reduction of up to 10% mortality rates 2010 and 2011 in the

capitals Palmas, Teresina and Belo Horizonte;

• Increasing mortality trend rates were observed in the states of Mato

Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais and Piauí;

• The fatality rate by 10,000 vehicles between 2010 and 2011 was reduced

in all capitals.

• To improve the process of linking databases mortality;

• To improve the databases of RTI victims (police, coroner services);

• To access data from victims living in the capital, but whose place of the

road accident was on highways and in urban area of another municipality.

• The number of seriously injured showed an increase in the second half of 2011

compared with the second 2010 in the cities of Palmas, Curitiba, a reduction in

Belo Horizonte and stability in Campo Grande;

• The comparison between semesters of 2011 with 2012 showed a reduction in

the number of serious injuries in Campo Grande;

• There was an increase in the number of hospitalizations and hospitalization

rates between the years 2010 and 2011 in the cities of Palmas, Teresina and

Belo Horizonte, and a reduction in Curitiba;

• There was a reduction in Palmas and Teresina and some increase in the cities

of Belo Horizonte, Curitiba and Campo Grande between 2011 and 2012;

• There was an increase in the rates of hospitalization per 10,000 vehicles,

between the years 2010 and 2011, in the cities of Belo Horizonte and Palmas

and a reduction in Teresina and Curitiba;

• There was a reduction of rates in Palmas and Teresina, stability in Belo

Horizonte and Curitiba and increase in Campo Grande, Between 2011 and

2012;.

AIH in each municipality;

The current political scenario, with the beginning of new four-year municipal administrations, the greater ownership of then project by the cities, the political support of the Federal Government and the technical cooperation of international organizations partners provide continuity and opportunity for strengthening of actions and impacts of the RS10-BRA / Vida no Trânsito in the five cities
