KATA RULES

1. There will be no musical kata. 2. Each competitor will enter the ring, and announce to the panel of judges their name, dojo and kata. They will then perform one kata of their choice. 3. A panel of three or five judges will score each competitor using a scale of 1 thru 10. Decimal points will be used to minimize ties. If five judges are used the high and low score will be thrown out. 4. Once the scores are read out loud and recorded they cannot be changed, even by the judge who gave them. 5. The first two competitors in each division will perform their katas. Then the judges will score the first, followed by the second. After that, each competitor will receive their score immediately after their kata. 6. All weapons used for weapons kata are subject to examination by the judges. Only traditional weapons such as sai, tonfa, nunchaku, sword, bo, jo, etc. will be used. No hunting knives, stars or modern weapons will be allowed. 7. Ties will be decided by each competitor who tied performing a different kata. No scores will be given. After completion of all katas, the judges will line up the competitors and pick the winner. 8. Green belts will be allowed one restart with a one-point deduction. 10. Brown and Black belts will not be allowed a restart. Failure to complete their kata will result in score of zero. 11. In the event of a tie, white belts will be allowed to perform the same kata again. Green, Brown and Black belts MUST perform a DIFFERENT kata. 12. Black Belt kata will be accomplished by all competitors of all ages in one division. 13. Competitors who show up after the division has been bowed in will not be allowed to join the competition.
