students who are turning 8 years old this year. Notes were sent home last year and are
available on the website, at the office and at the back of this newsletter. Please return all
three notes (permission, medical and competency) to school tomorrow so that your child
can participate. No money will be collected prior to the carnival. The cost of the carnival
will be included in your Statement of Account for Term 1. Year 1 and 2 will remain at school
for a normal school day. The program for the day is below.
2019 PAGEWOOD PS SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Please note: There will be no finals. Results will be based on the fastest times from heats.

DEMOUNTABLE CLASSROOM AND ENTRANCE GATES During the holidays a demountable classroom was placed in the school grounds to accommodate the thirteenth class. The flag
pole and commemorative plaques will be relocated to the front entrance of the school near the office. The grevillea trees and
garden beds will be relocated if possible or re-planted. Fencing has been installed around the staff carpark to ensure the safety of
students. A new entrance to the school is currently being completed which be open during school hours allowing school office
staff to sight any visitors to the school during the day. The gate near the staff carpark will continue to be open before and after
school to allow access to OOSH. The gate and pathway next to the Kiss and Drop zone is also being completed. Thank you to Mr
OUT OF SCHOOL HOURS CARE (OOSH) TENDER PROCESS The tender process for the contract for the OOSH at Pagewood Public School will begin very soon. The process requires that the
parent and carer community is represented on the panel. I have asked the P&C to elect a representative at their meeting next
week. In addition, another parent representative is permitted to be on the panel as well as a staff representative. The process is
convened by an Assets Services Officer from the NSW Department of Education and requires at least two meeting times during
the school day in the next few weeks. If you are interested in nominating yourself to be the additional parent representative please
send an email to Ms Mayhew via the school email address [email protected] by Tuesday 5 February 2019.
ASTHMA/ANAPHYLAXIS AND OTHER MEDICAL MANAGEMENT PLANS FOR 2019
To all our current and new families, if your child has been identified as having Asthma, Anaphylaxis or any other medical condition,
a CURRENT Asthma/Anaphylaxis Plan or Medical Plan must be provided to the school for the 2019 year. Please obtain an
Asthma/Anaphylaxis form from the office which must be completed and signed by the family Doctor. In addition, we ask that if
your child requires Ventolin/other medication at school, it must be kept in the school office. Please ensure that medication
provided to the school has a valid expiry date. Please also advise the school if there are any changes regarding your child/ren
health care plans. Note: These plans need to be updated annually. We kindly request that if the above applies to your child/ren
that these plans/medications be brought in by Monday 11 February 2019.
STUDENT EQUIPMENT FOR 2019

1 x Plastic display folder for homework
Art smock
4 x Whiteboard markers (for Maths activities)

Please note that K-2 children do not bring a pencil case
P&C (PARENTS AND CITIZENS) NEWS Pagewood Public School P&C always welcomes enthusiastic members. It’s a great way to get involved and help out at the school.
Throughout the year, the P&C meets at 7:00pm in the school library on the first Tuesday of every month during the school term.
The first meeting is next Tuesday 5 February. Each meeting is announced in the school newsletter; we have about 8-10 meetings
a year. At our P&C meetings, a range of topics are discussed, including:
Updates from the Principal
Fundraising initiatives
Father’s Day/Mother’s Day stalls (and finding volunteers to run them!)
School programs
Allocation of P&C funds towards school programs
Special morning teas or events
Uniform Shop- run by the P&C onsite at school
Market Carnival- bi-annual event
The P&C meetings also provide a forum for parents to be able to raise questions and respectfully make suggestions about the
school for discussion. The agenda for each meeting is available the week prior.
At the P&C Annual General Meeting (the second meeting of the year) the voluntary positions of office bearers, or the executive -
President, Vice Presidents, Secretary and Treasurer are voted in. To be eligible to vote, or take up a position on the executive at
the AGM, you must be a member of the P&C. If you are not already a P&C member, you must pay the membership fee by the
close of the general meeting, a month before the AGM to be able to take up a position or to vote at the AGM. Membership lasts
from one AGM to the next, and is currently set at $1 per year. Financial members have voting rights at the AGM, but also for any
issues or decisions that are made at the meetings throughout the year. This includes the selection of a P&C financial member to
be the representative on any merit selection panel (for the hiring of teaching or administrative staff). You can join the P&C at any
meeting throughout the year, your voting rights will be established at the next meeting after you join.
An active P&C is at the heart of a great school, and we always strongly encourage parents to get involved at Pagewood Public
School. Being involved in the P&C offers you an opportunity to get to know other like-minded parents. You can be involved by
joining the P&C and attending meetings, volunteering for the various fundraisers or events throughout the year, and by supporting
the efforts of the P&C.
When you support the P&C, you support improvements for the school, the teachers and most
importantly, your children.
‘TEA AND TISSUES’
PPS P&C would like to invite new parents to the school along to a relaxed Morning Tea in the library on Friday
1 February at 9:30am, as your Kindy students begin their school life. It is a chance to meet our Principal, Ms
Nicole Mayhew, other new Kindy parents as well as experienced parents who have been in your shoes before!
We affectionately call the event ‘Tea and Tissues’, but in reality, there are usually plenty of smiles and
exchanges of shared experience, as well as coffee, tea and cake.
