The Youth Services Department has developed a Craft Pack Program. Pick up a packet which includes the instructions and basic materials for a paper craft to be

assembled at home. You may use the basic materials and then add your own creative touches to make a beautiful craft. Also included in each packet is an educational worksheet for children to complete. When the children are finished with their crafts, they should be returned to the Youth Services Department. They will then become a Craft Pack All-Star! Their craft will be put on display with a gold star showing their name. The craft packs are fun to do, but don’t forget their educational value. They help the children work on eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills which are important for reading. Parents and Grandparents enjoy having a craft ready to make for any occasion. A new Craft Pack will be available about every three weeks. Stop in and get one today!

We have been remarkably lucky in our weather so far this year! However, the Library will still be accessible and welcoming when the weather gets worse. Our entrance porches have heated sidewalks so snow and ice will not get in your way. On our West entrance, the handicapped access ramp’s banisters have been repaired and are firmly in place. The hands-free door openers are working well. There are also reasonably priced cups of coffee and hot chocolate from the machine available as you enter, for those who wish to warm up with a drink. So when the wind blows and there is snow, plan to spend time at your library!

Girl Scouts of South Holland

held their annual Rededication and Investiture on Saturday, December 3, 2011 here at the library. Over 50

girls between the ages of five and fourteen, rededicated their time and energy to Girl Scouts by making the pledge to “serve God, the country , to help people at all times and to live by the Girl Scout law.” Thank you members of Girl Scout Troop 60352, Erika Jones, Mia Bearden and Kenise Gaston for helping with our annual holiday concert.

inconvenience.

The South Holland Public Library has

undertaken a program to recover fees, items

and fines that are seriously overdue. In an

effort to save taxpayers’ money, we have hired

Unique Management Services, a collection

agency that works with other libraries

throughout the United States. So please pay

any outstanding fines when due. Your efforts

will help library money to go further for the

entire community.
