Our Safe Care PromiseHospital teams are diligently trained to keep patients safe. We are committed to being experts in
caring for patients with infectious diseases. This is something we have always done and done well.
Our policies, procedures, education, training and practices have equipped us with the foundation to
respond to the coronavirus while keeping our staff and patients safe. You have our safe care promise.
VISITOR SCREENINGS & LIMITATIONS
We have screening tables set
up at entries to symptom-
check everyone entering
our facility. Policies are
also in place to monitor all
employees. Additionally, we
are limiting visitors inside
the facility.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Patients and visitors are
required to wear a mask
upon entry. You are asked
to bring your own mask, but
we will give them out while
supplies last.
SOCIAL DISTANCINGWe have rearranged our
waiting rooms, added
signage and began
staggering patients to
promote social distancing.
We've also invested in a
beeper system to reduce
the number of people in
waiting areas.
We are safe. We are strong.2 CCCCCC
VIRTUAL VISITS Our Primary Care Clinics
and Urgent Care are
off ering virtual visits and/or
telephone visits.
Patients are still encouraged
to call ahead whenever
possible. See page 9 for
more info.
SANITIZATIONWe’ve greatly increased the
scheduled cleanings of our
hospital, waiting areas and
equipment and added hand-
sanitizer stations for your
use in additional areas of the
facility. We also invested in
a state-of-the-art SteraMist
fogging sanitation system.

WITH HEARTFELT THANKS
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought challenges and, sadly, tragedies, but as I refl ect on our continued response, I would like to point out some positives.
• Our team truly stepped up to care for our community—employees took on new roles, learned new ways of care and continue to put our hospital and patients fi rst.
• Our clinic physicians worked to reduce an interruption in care by owning the process of a rapid telehealth implementation that off ered patients interim options to safely receive care remotely.
• Our community came together like never before to carry us through a tough time. The love, donations and support we received will remain in our hearts forever.
Thank you so much to our staff , physicians, Board of Commissioners and neighbors.

Emergencies don’t stop, and neither do we.
According to new polling by the Kaiser Family
Foundation, nearly half of Americans said that
either they or someone in their household has
skipped or delayed needed medical care because
of the coronavirus. These studies cause concern
for the safety of our community.
Please do not delay care for heart attacks, strokes,
falls and other urgent needs. Particularly in cases
of the heart (heart attacks) and brain (strokes),
not seeking immediate care can cause permanent
damage or even worse—death. We are here for
these situations and want you to feel confi dent in
our ability to both protect and care for you.
Call 911 immediately for emergencies. We
understand your concerns about the coronavirus,
but we are prepared.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT IN THE ER
• An assessment upon entry
• Separated treatment areas based on symptoms or needs
• Additional air fi ltering in ER Patient Rooms
• Plexiglas partitions on ER Nurse stations to prevent cross contamination
• Terminal, high level cleaning in ER rooms between patients
• Disinfection of all high-touch areas and furniture in the ER lobby
“A decline in visits for serious conditions
might result in complications or death.”—Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention

Virtual CareTelehealth, distance care, virtual visits—there
are many terms used to describe patient care
conducted remotely through the use of technology.
As a response to COVID-19, many insurance
providers have expanded coverage of telehealth
to temporarily include solutions such as telephone
and FaceTime physician visits.
During the public health emergency, our Primary
Care Clinics and Urgent Care are off ering virtual
care through telephone calls and FaceTime visits.
Patients who need hospital follow-ups, medication
refi lls and referrals to specialists are typically good
candidates for virtual care.
Patients who need a hands-on evaluation, preop
appointments, physical checks, lab work or
injections will likely be asked to see their provider
in-person. We have implemented several safety
protocols to protect these patients as well.
We are excited to off er more options for added
convenience, and we are actively assessing
permanent telehealth solutions that can be
implemented for long-term use.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW.1. We are currently off ering phone and FaceTime
visits (Apple Device required) in Poche Medical
Clinic, Lutcher Family Clinic, St. James West
Bank Clinic and St. James Urgent Care.
2. If you are interested in a video or telephone
visit, call your clinic. Our staff will quickly
assess your need and determine if you are a
candidate.
3. If you qualify, your physician will contact you
at your scheduled time.

Testing the TestSt. James Parish Hospital now off ers COVID-19
antibody testing for patients with a physician’s order.
ABOUT ANTIBODY TESTING
Antibody Testing for COVID-19 is not intended to diagnose the virus in symptomatic patients. These blood tests were initially developed by the CDC to evaluate the accuracy of diagnostic tests and to assess the overall impact of the virus.
MANUFACTURER AND HOSPITAL TEST VALIDATIONThe manufacturer of St. James Parish Hospital’s
COVID-19 antibody tests had to do adequate
pretesting to prove the test’s reliability. This
validation included assessing the test’s ability to
correctly identify samples without the antibody
(accuracy rate of 99.81%) and to correctly identify
samples with the antibody. One-hundred percent
of patients in the study 14 days or more after a
confi rmed COVID-19 diagnosis tested positive for
antibodies. Additionally, samples were tested for
cross-reactivity to make sure that they did not show
positive results for other viruses that were not
COVID-19. No cross-reactivity was detected.
Before the hospital was allowed to off er COVID-19
antibody testing to the public, we also had to
complete our own testing of samples from known
positive and known negative patients to ensure
that our results were both accurate and repeatable.
WHAT WE’VE LEARNEDInitial studies have shown that antibody tests
being utilized at St. James Parish Hospital are
extremely accurate at detecting COVID-19
antibodies in patients who were at least 14 days
past a COVID-19 diagnosis. However, pre-release
studies also show that the accuracy of the test is
greatly aff ected if patients are tested too soon.
It takes time for the body to produce antibodies.
This is why it is so important for patients to wait
14 days after an exposure, testing positive and/or
after having symptoms to be tested.
If you are asymptomatic but feel concerned
because you have been exposed to someone
who tested positive for COVID-19, talk to your
physician. Your physician can discuss symptoms
to watch out for and determine if a diagnostic or
antibody test would be most benefi cial. Waiting
at least 14 days after an exposure will ensure the
most accurate results.
