NEW SERENITY PRAYER -Fr. James Martin, SJ God, grant me the serenity to accept people I cannot change, which is pretty much everyone, since I’m clearly not you, God. At least not the last time I checked. And while you’re at it, God, please give me the courage to change what I need to change about myself, which is frankly a lot, since, once again, I’m not you, which means I’m not perfect. It’s better for me to focus on changing myself than to worry about changing other people, who as you no doubt remember me saying, I can’t change anyway. Finally, give me the wisdom to just shut up whenever I think that I’m clearly smarter than anyone else in the room, that no one knows what they’re talking about except me, or that I alone have all the answers. Basically, God, grant me the wisdom to remember that I’m not you. AMEN.
“WE WELCOME GINA DROST: AS A NEW CO-COORDINATOR OF OUR FAITH FORMATION PROGRAM” I am delighted to announce that I recently hired Gina Drost as a Co-Coordinator of our Faith Formation Program. Gina began her ministry at St. James last Monday, November 13th. Together with Marianne Mirkow
Gina will coordinate our over-all Faith Formation Program. The work of our Faith Formation Program is to form the children of our parish into “intentional disciples” of Jesus, while giving them a religious education. Gina has extensive experience in Faith Formation and Youth Ministry, most recently working at St. William the Abbot in Seaford and St. Matthew’s in Dix Hills. Among her many responsibilities were: working with the Confirmation candidates, designing and developing service oriented opportunities for them, teaching of Master Catechist classes for Confirmation, coordinating parish events to foster intergenerational participation within the parish, the development of new technology (FaceBook, Instagram and Twitter pages) and directing Youth Ministry, which saw the creation of a Youth Leadership Program. Gina is also an accomplished artist and is sure to make use of this special talent while serving here.
During the remainder of this present Faith Formation Year, Gina will work closely with Marianne Mirkow, our other Faith Formation Coordinator. It is my plan that starting September 2018, Gina will be responsible for our Confirmation Program, the Faith Development and Formation of the parents of the children in our Program and over-all Adult Faith Formation within the parish. In time, it is also my hope that Gina will reintroduce Youth Ministry here at St. James.
So, welcome, Gina! We are delighted to have you as a member of our parish staff. May you find happiness and satisfaction in your ministry here at St. James Parish!

What’s happening in
Faith Formation?
Our Level 7-8 Confirmation prep students are committed to learning more about their
faith and one way they fulfill these requirements is by doing service. Jesus came to serve
others and our Confirmandi become His hands and feet as they in turn serve our
community. We ask them to find something that interests them and use that to help them
serve others. This could be as simple as helping to coach younger kids in a sport they
already play, or tutor someone. It could be running or participating in a fundraiser or
baking for a bake sale. We also ask them to do something with in the parish so that they
can learn about what we do, they can join our choir or the PB&J gang, become an altar
server, or help at a parish event. The most important part is the fun they have.
Question of the Week? What is my Talent/Gift and how can I multiply it?
There are no Classes Nov 21, 22, or 23 so that our families can prepare for
and enjoy Thanksgiving. Classes will resume on Nov 28th.
Prayer that can be said as Grace for Thanksgiving:
Today we give thanks for our many blessings as we pray for those in need. We give
thanks for our family and friends as we pray for those who are lonely. We give thanks for
our freedoms as we pray for those who are oppressed. We give thanks for our good
health as we pray for those who are ill. We give thanks for our comfort and prosperity as
we share our blessings with others. On this day of Thanksgiving, may the love of God
enfold us, the peace of God dwell within us, and the joy of God uplift us. Amen.
A Very Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving to all from the

The good news of today’s Gospel is the extravagance of what is being given us. All we need
do is be faithful in “small matters.” The cost of fidelity has no comparison to the reward
given.
When you give the furniture, household items and clothing you no longer use to the
Society of St. Vincent de Paul, you are sharing God’s extravagant love.
Sleeping St. Joseph
Now available in the Book Nook! "I have great love for Saint Joseph, because he is a man of silence and strength. On my table I have an image of Saint Joseph sleeping. Even when he is asleep, he is taking care of the Church!” - Pope Francis
