PAGE LAYOUT TASK 5

Page 3: Page Layout Task 5

Advantages of sourcing images this way:

Using images this way allows you to see how they look in print before printing them yourself.

Disadvantages of sourcing images this way:

These images are harder to find as you have to search by hand and eye in order to find them. When you have scanned or photographed the images they will lose a lot of quality once up scaled.

Page 5: Page Layout Task 5

Advantages of sourcing images this way:

The images are often high quality and you are able to download them instantly to view and manipulate offline. It is also very easy to find images via Google by simply searching for what you want to see.

Disadvantages of sourcing images this way:

It is not always clear what is and isn’t for personal use only, this can lead to issues when using images for commercial reasons. Not all images will be of high quality and some images can have computer viruses attached.

Advantages of sourcing images this way:

It is clear that these images are free to use for personal and commercial reasons. This means you can post them without any manipulation or changes without the risk of copyright theft. It is simple to search and find images on these websites and they often stock mostly high quality images.

Disadvantages of sourcing images this way:

Some websites aren’t 100% clear in what can and can’t be used, as well as not fully disclosing the terms and conditions of image use. This carries a small risk of bumping into copyright issues.

Images sourced from your own existing images:

Advantages of sourcing images this way:

Using these images carries no risk of copyright issues, and as the photographer you can choose exactly how you would like the image to look and choose the quality.

Disadvantages of sourcing images this way:

You may not be able to recreate the images you want due to lack of skill or opportunity, for example it would be hard to photograph Niagara falls when I live in York.

Resolution image:

300dpi for print

72dpi for web

Page 16: Page Layout Task 5

Advantages of different resolutions:

Higher quality resolutions are great for maximum aesthetic perfection and are more useful when digitally editing. The higher quality images will also look better when boosted up for posters. Lower resolutions are good for websites or thumbnails as they quickly load to give the viewer a taste of the full size image.

Disadvantages of different resolutions:

High resolution images take up a lot of memory space and take longer to open, download or transfer. Lower quality images do not look as attractive and when enlarged often look very soft or pixelated.

Manipulated image with appropriate caption:

Yamahahaha!

Explain the changes you made to the image and explain why you made those changes:

I wanted to make a very random and graphically contrasting image. I gave the motorbike a rubber duck paint job, turned the brick wall into a space galaxy and the window into a spooky window with a scary girl peeking through. These are all very contrasting styles of funny, beautiful and scary. I also darkened the tires and reduced the highlights from the reflecting exhaust to make it look more attractive. I then cropped the image to make the bike fill the frame more densely to keep the viewers attention on the bike and subjects closely around it.

I called it ‘Yamahahaha!’ as word play on ‘Yamaha’ due to the comedic side of the image.
