WITH BUNK MANN
Ocean City’s 9th Street was the favorite hangout for the college crowdfrom the end of World War II through the late 1960s. One reason was, in ad-dition to several hamburger stands, it was the location of the iconic BeachClub. In those days, the Beach Club was Ocean City’s most popular beachbar.
On Sept. 4, 1960, 9th Street became the starting point for the “Labor DayRiot” where police fought a pitched battle with over 2,000 college students. The riot was finally broken up by hose streams from the Ocean City Vol-unteer Fire Department and several dogs from the Maryland State Police.
