I’m a little sad today. Vacation Bible School is over and won’t come again for a whole year! To say VBS was a success would be an understatement. It was fabulous! So many children who sang, danced, created, learned and laughed… it made the walls shake! Why do we do it? Well, it is a blessing for the kids and their families, this year we had a large number of adults come to the adult portion of VBS and studied the Bible. Why? Because it blesses us! Our church is better, stronger and more faithful when we do things like VBS. The children see it in every in- teraction they have with us, every song sung, every craft made, everything! It's good for them to see us this way. When the 10-year-olds in Mrs. Imogene Frost's class at the Brookside, N.J. Community Sunday School expressed their views of "What's wrong with grownups?" they came up with these complaints: 1. Grownups make promises, then they forget all about them, or else they say it wasn't really a promise, just a maybe. 2. Grownups don't do the things they're always telling the children to do--like pick up their things, or be neat, or always tell the truth. 3. Grownups never really listen to what children have to say. They always decide ahead of time what they're going to an- swer. 4. Grownups make mistakes, but they won't admit them. They always pretend that they weren't mistakes at all--or that somebody else made them. 5. Grownups interrupt children all the time and think nothing of it. If a child interrupts a grownup, he gets a scolding or something worse. 6. Grownups never understand how much children want a certain thing--a certain color or shape or size. If it's something they don't admire--even if the children have spent their own money for it--they always say, "I can't imagine what you want with that old thing!" 7. Sometimes grownups punish children unfairly. It isn't right if you've done just some little thing wrong and grownups take away something that means an awful lot to you. Other times you can do something really bad and they say they're going to punish you, but they don't. You never know, and you ought to know. 8. Grownups are always talking about what they did and what they knew when they were 10 years old--but they never try to think what it's like to be 10 years old right now. That’s how kids experience what’s wrong with grownups, but last week they saw what is right! First Presbyterian Church witnessed to these children last week that God loves them and we do too. It blessed our church, the children and their families. God was here enjoying every moment, every hug, every squeal of joy. Thank you, everybody. I am sad it’s over, but I am proud! Proud of everything that made VBS so wonderful. God bless you. I am Your pastor and friend Rev. George T. SESSION HIGHLIGHTS FOR JULY

When Session met on Thursday, July 25, it continued to move forward on the demolition of Magnolia House by approving a Task Force charged with determin-ing the procedures, costs, and schedule. There are many details to the process, including meeting with and receiving approval from city entities, notifications, permits, bids, contracts, and disposition of items from the house. The Task Force will determine and handle all of the details and present a report with recommenda-tions to the Session in the future. Additionally, Session reviewed the financial reports, received reports and infor-mation from committees, heard about the success of VBS, and approved a new

Wedding Manual and policies.

SUCCESSFUL VBS – IN WORDS AND PICTURES!

During the week of July 15 to 19, VBS was the focus of First Pres-

byterian Church. There was a total of 50 different children, with

an average of 35 attending each day, 20 different adults in their class, and over 60 volunteers who

assisted in both preparation and participation. Besides the num-

bers, we ate well; sang enthusias-tically; learned Bible stories of

faith, boldness, kindness, thank-fulness, and hope; did science

experiments; made crafts; played games; and enjoyed being with EP3-20 as we went “To Mars and

Beyond – Exploring Where God’s Power Can Take Us.” It was a

wonderful week for everyone!

CLEAN OUT, CLEAN UP, ORGANIZE! Over the course of time, anything and everything can get to be cluttered and

dirty. First Presbyterian is no exception. Some of our rooms are beginning to look like disorganized storage units, so it’s time to clean out, clean up, and or-

ganize. You can help! If you’ve brought items to the kitchen, VBS, or any other church activity in the last couple of years and would like to have them back, please come get them during August. As we clean out, we will donate or

throw away items (depending on condition) we no longer need or can use. This is not a one-day project, it will take some time, but in the end, our church will be

cleaner and better organized, as well as allowing someone else to find “treasures” in the “trash” we give away!
