Emil Burger October 13,1902 - December 31,1997 Wilma Jewel Gordon March 4,1937 - December 24,1997 Helen L. Jerkofsky February 19,1915 - January 4,1998 Rev. Emil Burger, 95, of Eagle Lake, passed away following a sudden illness on Wednesday, December 31, 1997, at 10:17 p.m. at Rice Medical Center in Eagle Lake. Born October 13, 1902, in Frels- burg, he was the oldest of Albert and Emma Schulz Burger's 10 children. Early in his life, Burger worked for the railroad then later drove trolleys in Houston. He spent time with Hughes Tool Company of Houston before returning to Colorado County where he worked for Louie Kohleffel and then his son, "Snooks" Burger, as a heavy equipment operator. Rev. Burger ministered along side his late wife, the Rev. Selma O. Bur- ger, establishing Eagle Lake Mission and Rock Island Full Gospel Church as well as churches in Moscow and Oakhurst, Texas. He served his country honorably during World War II with the U.S. Army Air Force entering the service on his 40th birthday in 1942. He was discharged in 1945. He was a good man who led a remarkablejife, small in stature with a heart twice as big. His devotion to family and friends and service to his Lord can never be forgotten. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife (March 6, 1983); son, H.E. "Snooks" Burger (Feb. 29, 1988); grandsons, Bob and James W. Hudson; sisters, Lena Scott and Agnes Burger; and brothers, Lester, Adolph and Louie Burger. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Billy Jean and Chester W. Hudson of Rock Island; sisters, Dena Loughridge and Norma Lee Tucker of Houston; brothers, Awald and Roy Burger of Houston; grandchildren, Peggy Jean Pitchford and Carol Sue Meyer of Columbus, Judy Ann Hopkins and Nancy Fay Bownds of Rock Island, Randy Ernest Hudson of Houston, Joe David Hudson of Liver- pool and Steve Burger of Eagle Lake; 36 great and great-great grandchil- dren; daughter-in-law, Mrs. H.E. "Pansy" Burger of Eagle Lake; other relatives and a host of loved ones. Funeral services were held Satur- day, January 3, at 4 p.m. from the Chapel of Dulany Funeral Home in Eagle Lake with Revs. Everett Snyder and Nick Williams officiating. Interment followed in Lakeside Cemetery in Eagle Lake. Dulany Funeral Home of Eagle Lake was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Earl Pitchford, Melvin Meyer, Bobby and Ray Hopkins, Rev. Floyd Snyder and Jerry Wills. Honorary pallbearers were Ford and J.W.Scott Sympathy is extended to the fam- ily in their loss. Wilma Jewel Gordon passed away on December 24, 1997. She was born to Mr. and Mrs. James Gordon Sr. on March 4,1937, in Eagle Lake, the fourth of 10 children. She was reared and completed her high school education from E.H Henry High School in 1955 and at- tended Prairie View University and Austin Vocational School. She had been employed by Foley's in Houston and Rieland Hospital. She was converted and baptized at an early age at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and remained until her death. She served on the Usher Board. Family members preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Tyria Gordon Penn and Alta Mae Gor- don Cameron; and three brothers, James Jr., Tommy E. and Alvin C. Gordon. Survivors include her daughter and son Kasandra and Kirby Gordon of Eagle Lake; two grandchildren, TranashaGordon and Shante Rhodes; sisters and brother-in-law, Charlene and Ray Cm me of Orlando, Florida, and Shirley Ruth Miller of Columbus; brothers and sister-in-law, Melvin and Erma Gordon of Eagle Lake and Os^ car Ray Gordon of San Antonio; one aunt, Ezell Porter of Bay City; two sisters-in-law, Mary B Gordon of San Antonio and Mary K. Gordon of Houston; 11 nieces; 12 nephews; 10 great nieces; 16 great nephews; and a special friend, Elvin Irving of Colum- bus. Funeral services were held Tues- day, December 30, at 1 p.m. from Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Eagle Lake with Rev. Earl Shorter Jr., Pastor, officiating. Interment followed in Boykins Cemetery in Eagle Lake. Ben Davis Funeral Home of Co- lumbus was in charge of arrange- ments. Serving as pallbearers were Mel- vin Miller, Alex Woolridge, Herbert Ashton, Sedric Turner, C.L. Polk and Frank Matthews. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Houston where she served in various leadership roles within the Christian Women's Fel- lowship for many years, taught Sun- day School and was one of the first Women Elders. Richardson also supported her community through participation in several garden clubs and community organizations. Her devotion to family, friends and community will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, B .L. Richardson; sister, Margaret Miles Wiese; and of Eagle Lake; grandchildren, Sharon Lowther Huitt and her husband, Pat- rick, Karyn Lowther Moody, Mark Lowther, Amber Richardson, Jessica Richardson, Sharon Lambright and her husband, Patrick, Susan Richard- son, Betsy Richardson and Scott Rich- ardson; great-grandchildren, Laura and Travis Huitt, Tyler Moody and Ryan Lambright; along with numer- ous nieces in Eagle Lake. Jerkofsky, 82, of Rock Island, passed away January 4, 1998, at Rice Medical Center in Eagle Lake. She was born February 19, 1915, in Austin to Alfred A. and Mary Agnes Theobald Babel. Helen and Gus Joseph Jerkofsky were married November 11, 1939. She was a homemaker, member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nada and a resident of Rock Island for the past two years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband (July 31,1992); and a brother, Francis Paul Babel. Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Sister Mary Ann Jerk- ofsky of Joliet, 111., and Catherine and Ervin Buchta of Rock Island; son and daughter-in-law, James and Annette Jerkofsky of North Canton, Ohio; grandchildren, Brenda Kelsey, Tho- mas and David Buchta and Teresa Borski; seven great-grandchildren; and a special cousin, Eugene Jirkov- sky and his wife, Lois of Yoakum. Funeral services were held Tues- day, December 30, at 1 p.m. from Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Eagle Lake with Rev. Earl Shorter Jr., Pastor, officiating.

Interment followed in Boykins Cemetery in Eagle Lake.

Ben Davis Funeral Home of Co- lumbus was in charge of arrange- ments.

Serving as pallbearers were Mel- vin Miller, Alex Woolridge, Herbert Ashton, Sedric Turner, C.L. Polk and Frank Matthews.

Roxie M. Richardson, born near Weimar to John Herman and Mamie Halyard Miles, passed away Decem- ber 30, 1997.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Houston where she served in various leadership roles within the Christian Women's Fel- lowship for many years, taught Sun- day School and was one of the first Women Elders.

Richardson also supported her community through participation in several garden clubs and community organizations.

Her devotion to family, friends and community will be missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, B .L. Richardson; sister, Margaret Miles Wiese; and

of Eagle Lake; grandchildren, Sharon Lowther Huitt and her husband, Pat- rick, Karyn Lowther Moody, Mark Lowther, Amber Richardson, Jessica Richardson, Sharon Lambright and her husband, Patrick, Susan Richard- son, Betsy Richardson and Scott Rich- ardson; great-grandchildren, Laura and Travis Huitt, Tyler Moody and Ryan Lambright; along with numer- ous nieces in Eagle Lake.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 2, at the First Christian Church of Houston, 1601 Sunset Blvd., with Rev. John Cunyus officiating.

Cameron Michelle Berger

Douglas and Brenda Berger of Se- guin are proud to announce the arrival of their fourth child, a daughter, born at9:37 a.m., at St. David's Hospital in Austin on October 28,1997.

Cameron Michelle weighed seven pounds, five ounces and measured 19 inches at birth.

Welcoming her home were her sisters, Ashley, age 12, and Kelsey, eight; and her brother, Brandon, 4.

Her grandparents are Anthony and Bernice Kallina of Garwood and Al- lan and Edna Mae Berger of Port O'Conner.

Her mother is the former Brenda Kallina of Garwood.

Helen L. Jerkofsky, 82, of Rock Island, passed away January 4, 1998, at Rice Medical Center in Eagle Lake.

She was born February 19, 1915, in Austin to Alfred A. and Mary Agnes Theobald Babel.

Helen and Gus Joseph Jerkofsky were married November 11, 1939.

She was a homemaker, member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nada and a resident of Rock Island for the past two years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband (July 31,1992); and a brother, Francis Paul Babel.

Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Sister Mary Ann Jerk- ofsky of Joliet, 111., and Catherine and Ervin Buchta of Rock Island; son and

daughter-in-law, James and Annette Jerkofsky of North Canton, Ohio; grandchildren, Brenda Kelsey, Tho- mas and David Buchta and Teresa Borski; seven great-grandchildren; and a special cousin, Eugene Jirkov- sky and his wife, Lois of Yoakum.

Funeral services were held Wed- nesday, January 7, at 10 a.m. from SL Mary's Catholic Church in Nada with Father Joe Koebel officiating.

Interment followed in Mount Cal- vary Cemetery in Austin.

Henneke Funeral Home, Colum- bus, was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nada.
