ANSI/ASME and Insurance ClassificationStandard truck meets all applicable mandatoryrequirements of Part II-ANSI-B56.1 Safety Standardfor Powered Industrial Trucks (latest edition at timeof manufacture) and Underwriters Laboratoriesrequirements as to fire and electrical shock hazardonly for “E” classification. For further informationcontact a Clark representative.
For Your SafetyBefore operating a lift truck, an operator must:• Be trained and authorized• Read and understand the operator’s manual• Not operate a faulty lift truck• Not repair a lift truck unless trained and
authorized• Have the overhead guard and load
backrest extension in place• Perform daily inspections.
During operation, a lift truck operator must:• Keep feet, legs and all parts of body inside
operator compartment• Never carry passengers or lift people• Keep truck away from people and obstructions• Travel with lift mechanism as low as
possible and tilted back• Allow safe stopping distance and come to a
complete stop before leaving operatorcompartment
To park a lift truck, an operator must:• Completely lower forks or attachments• Shift into neutral• Turn key off
Contact your Clark dealer for operator training information.

* The ESM is designed for operation on and overshort grades such as dock plates, but is notintended for use on long grades such as rampsbetween floors.
DESCRIPTIONClark Series ESM II stand-up, counterbalanced trucksare highly maneuverable and provide advanced featuresfor added productivity, comfort and operator protection. The tight turning radius and compact design of the ESMII allows the truck to work in smaller areas thancomparable capacity sit-down rider lift trucks. Thestand-up operator’s compartment makes the ESM IIideal where operators are required to perform many loadhandling functions such as order picking. The multi-tirecapability of the ESM II allows the use of either cushionor solid pneumatic drive tires to suit applicationrequirements (ESM II 22/25 available with cushion tiresonly).
Operator Comfort/Convenience• Low step height (7.5 in.)• Fully padded operator compartment• Hydrostatic power steering• Exclusive multi-function control handle• Angled tiller steer control with spinner knob• Two rear overhead guard legs add operator
protection and comfort
The low step height design of the ESM II allows easyoperator entry and exit with reduced fatigue. Exposedsurfaces are smooth and rounded to help preventsnagging and injury.
The multi-function control handle is positioned forcomfortable right hand operation; it provides completecontrol of travel, lift/lower, tilt and up to two additionalhydraulic functions. The horn button is also on thecontrol handle. The key switch, and battery disconnectlever are within easy right hand reach on the controldeck. A visual/digital display provides continuousbattery status, operating hours and an extensive rangeof operation and diagnostic codes. A lift interrupt circuithelps protects the battery by disabling hydraulicoperation when the battery is approximately 80%discharged.
Overhead guard has longitudinal bars to improveforward visibility and is finished in flat black to reduceglare. 86.5 in. standard overhead guard height provides78.0 in. operator compartment height. Reduced guardheight of 83 in. is optional. The truck’s low consoleheight increases operator’s view of floor-level activity.
MotorsDual drive motors and hydraulic pump motor areventilated, fan cooled and have class “H” insulation. Aradial fan, providing equal air flow in forward or reverse, continuously draws outside air through the motorcasings, removing heat for extended motor life. Powersteering pump motor is a permanent magnet type, selected for its long lasting, low maintenancecharacteristics.
Electrical Controls• General Electric EV-100 LXT microprocessor
based SCR drive motor control with selfdiagnostics
• High available torque control in the SCR range• SCR protected by thermal limit, current limit, and
pulse monitoring trip circuits• Reverse polarity protection prevents damage to
control
The SCR drive motor control provides infinitely variablespeeds in both forward and reverse. High current limitand thermal capacity increases ability to respond underload, and meet other power demands. Thermal andcurrent sensing prevents damage to the SCR control ifdesign limits are exceeded. The design of the EV-100system incorporates directional contactors that do notmake or break current under normal operatingconditions, extending contactor life. The completesystem including contactors is mounted under theoperator console where it’s protected and easilyaccessed.
“Plug-in” drive motors with heavy mounting flangesmate the armature shafts directly to the axle assembliesfor positive alignment and improved heat dissipation.
Clark dual axle and motor assemblies multiply torquethrough final gear reduction to the drive wheels. Theassemblies incorporate smooth and quiet operatingspiral bevel gears.
Brakes• Spring applied hydraulically released brakes on
both drive motors• Responsive pre-reduction design• Protected, easy service access
Drum and internal shoe type service brakes aremounted on the drive motor armature shafts on bothdrive units. This pre-reduction design multiplies brakingtorque 22.8 to 1 to provide smooth, responsive braking. The brake is fully applied when the pedal is in its raisedposition.
Hydraulic System• Hydraulic valve has interchangeable flow control
cartridges for precise flow regulation• Quiet operation of main hydraulic pump• Continuous fluid filtration• Heat preventive plumbing• O-ring face seal fittings on high pressure lines
reduce leaks, simplify service
Multi-function control handle allows full feathering of allhydraulic functions. Electric solenoids direct oil flow tothe function chosen by the operator, eliminates linkageand provides excellent response.
Continuous fluid filtration within the power steeringsystem increases filtering efficiency. A cleanable 10micron filler cap/breather serves as the oil fill cap andprotects the system from airborne contamination. Tiltcylinder design allows in-truck packing replacement.Tubing is plated to reduce corrosion.
Steering• Hydrostatic power steering is standard• Integral pump/motor assembly• Free-wheeling of inside drive wheel on turns
exceeding 45 degrees provides highmaneuverability
• Steer tiller with spinner knob providecomfortable grasp and smooth steering control
Hydrostatic power steering control through a rotarysteering actuator provides responsive, near-effortlesscontrol with no kick-back.
Upright Assemblies• All-roller design lowers friction, reduces energy
consumption• Quick-shim roller adjustment• ITA Class II fork carriage
Clark high visibility standard and triple-stage uprightsplace lift cylinders behind upright rails giving improvedvisibility. Uprights feature interlocking I-beam andchannel rail construction with heavy wrap-around tiebars, canted variable retainment upright rollers andcanted load rollers on the upright carriage. Upright tiltcylinders are compression locked to yokes for positiveadjustment; chrome plated cylinder rods resist damageand corrosion. A hydraulic counterbalance valve in tiltcircuit, load lowering control valve, and flow limitingvalve prevent tilt drift, regulate lowering speed andprevent rapid carriage descent in the event of a linefailure. Hook mounted forks are upset forged for fullsection strength at fork heel.
Features and OptionsStandard equipment: overhead guard, 48 in. high loadbackrest, electric horn and single auxiliary hydraulicvalve. Finish is high visibility Clark green with non-glareblack trim and bright white wheels. Capacity plate, operator instruction and warning labels are durable andhighly visible. The Operator Manual is attached to thetruck with a flexible cable.
Options include side shifters, operating lights, strobes, travel alarms, solid pneumatic drive tires (ESM II12/20models), cushion type non-marking, lug, andpolyurethane drive tires, cold storage specifications,U.L. type EE construction, overhead guard for drive-intype rack, and other hydraulic attachments.
