Joseph Lipko Middletown, NY The annual presentation of the Jack Masters Susque- hanna County award for a lifetime commitment to Republicanism, was held at the annual Lincoln Day celebration of the County Commiee on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Harford Fire Hall. GOP County Chairman Donna Cosmello sadly an- nounced that the 2019 re- cipient, Eleanor Kurosky, had passed away suddenly that same morning. Eleanor recently retired, for health reasons, as Asst. director of the Susquehanna Coun- ty Planning Department after more than 30 years. The award was present- ed posthumously to Elea- nor’s longtime friend, Mil- lie Booth. She said her dear friend would have been thrilled to be so honored. FCR Mask & Hammer to present “The Wizard of Oz” A new year, a new person at the helm for the Wayne Me- morial Community Advisory Board. Juliann Doyle, a long- time Wayne County employee, recently took over the leadership of the hospital’s community-liai- son board from outgoing chair Martha Wilson. The Commu- nity Advisory Board (CAB) ad- vocates for community needs to the Wayne Memorial Hospital & Health System Board of Trustees and, in turn, shares the Board’s objectives with the community. CAB also provides oversight of community-related projects, in- cluding partnerships with allied health organizations that receive funding from sources such as state, federal and foundation grants. Doyle first joined the Board in 2007. She has been employed by Wayne County since 1979 and currently is an administrative officer in the Office of Human Services. Her duties are many! Among them, supervision of the LINK program, which provides accurate, unbiased information on all aspects of life related to ag- ing or living with a disability. “Juliann is a font of knowl- edge about the community,” said Carol Kneier, RD, CDE, who took over the hospital’s overseer position for the CAB last year. “Juliann has been in- volved with the hospital for many years and we are pleased she was able to assume the chair position.” Doyle herself said she is more than happy to serve. “ I am hum- bled by this recognition from my fellow CAB board members. I truly believe Wayne County is a great place to live and work and happily continue to support both the County and the Hospi- tal in their efforts to grow Wayne County into the future and help meet the potential we have here in our wonderful county.” A member of the Wayne County Business and Profes- sional Women’s Club (BPW), where she serves as Parlia- mentarian, Doyle has also held various offices in the Forest City BPW Club and served two years as the BPW District Di- rector. Since 2006, she has been president of the Browndale Fire Company and is the company’s first female president. In fact, she is a “life” member of the fire- fighters group, which she joined in 1977. Her community activism also includes serving as secretary for the Forest City Area Historical Society and Logistics Chief for the Wayne County Emergency Management Department. She is also a member of the Greater Forest City Area Business Alli- ance. Juliann graduated from For- est City Regional High School and resides in the town where she was born, Browndale. Part of her home life is occupied by four lovable Dauschunds – Holly, Oo, Friꜩ and Preꜩel. CAB members represent the geographic reach and demo- graphics of the Wayne Memo- rial service area. Code violators Being pursued In Borough Forest City Code Enforcement Officer Stephanie Reisch and Commiee head Chris DeGon- zague told Council March 4 that their efforts to rid the commu- nity of blighted properties is con- tinuing. In addressing Council, Code Officer Reisch listed three properties which are now in vari- ous stages of being forced to be repaired or condemned. Reisch said she is pursuing action under the Borough’s Or- dinance 443 governing repair, removal or demolition of struc- tures dangerous to health, safety or general welfare of the com- munity. Properties listed were: 517 Susquehanna St., 730 Delaware St., and another on Dundaff St. Code enforcement also con- tinues to pursue violations of the rules about leaving the residen- tial trash cans on the street long after they are picked up. In win- ter, the receptacles on the roads are affecting snow plowing. Resisch also reported that two hearings were scheduled with the Magistrate on March 12th for rubbish, sanitation and disposal of garbage on properties. New name for Borough Bldg. 3rd floor hall At the request of Building Commiee chairman Bob Les- jack, Forest City Council, at its March 4 regular meeting, re- named the 3rd floor of the Bor- ough Building “Chandeliers at Pentecost Hall.” The 3rd floor has been ex- tensively remodeled over the past year with new chande- liers, floors, painting of walls and ceiling, bathroom remod- eling as well as the purchase of tables and chairs for seating of over 100. Lesjack reported that new doors have been installed and will be locked to prevent entry to unauthorized personnel. He said the old refrigerator and stove also have been re- moved from the former kitch- en area and may be replaced. The fire started around 1am and destroyed the building, several salt/plow trucks, some of which were contracted out to PennDOT, construction and log- ging vehicles. A state police fire marshal could not determine the cause of the blaze. Thanks again to all of the volunteer firefighters who fought the flames. Safe stolen In robbery Chief Lee Rowan told the News that on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 10:10 PM, a safe and oth- er items were taken from an apartment at 620 Main Street, Forest City, located over China Wok Chinese Restaurant. Entry to the 3rd floor was made from the rear of the building, while the apartment residents were in the 2nd floor restaurant prior to closing. Rowan said some other items were taken but were disposed of at the rear of the building. He said there are some leads to the robbery but he is asking that anyone who may have seen anything, or knows anything about the crime to contact police headquarters at 570-785-3453. No. Wayne fire Destroys Large garage The complex of Bill Pykus and Sons Excavating Inc., in Lebanon Twp. Northern Wayne County, was the 4th area trucking estab- lishment to be destroyed by fire. The fire at 1880 Great Bend Turn- pike was discovered early Tues- day morning, March 4,, after an explosion heard by the owner who lives nearby. The fire spread quickly and the building and contents were a total loss. Several salt/plow trucks, construction and logging vehicles were destroyed. Over the past year township garages in Gibson and Herrick Townships, as well as the Tim Hall Garage in Mt. Pleasant Twp., were destroyed by fire. The annual presentation of the Jack Masters Susque-hanna County award for a lifetime commitment to Republicanism, was held at the annual Lincoln Day celebration of the County Committee on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Harford Fire Hall.

GOP County Chairman Donna Cosmello sadly an-nounced that the 2019 re-cipient, Eleanor Kurosky,

A new year, a new person at the helm for the Wayne Me-morial Community Advisory Board. Juliann Doyle, a long-time Wayne County employee, recently took over the leadership of the hospital’s community-liai-son board from outgoing chair Martha Wilson. Safe stolenIn robbery
