Ch. 1 17 Secret Functions of
Google Sheets(Spreadsheet)
Which You never knew
1. Add Images Inside Sheets
To use this feature, try out the =IMAGE function. Just drop
in the URL of the image that you want to use in your sheet
and close it out to add it right inside of the spreadsheet.
2. Grab Data from Other Google Sheets
One of the most common things that spreadsheet users will
do is connect different spreadsheet
Page. 7
The function that you'll want to try out is
called IMPORTRANGE. With
the IMPORTRANGE function, you can actually connect to
an entirely different Google Sheet and pull data over. Best of
all, it stays up to date.
To use this function, try out the syntax below:
=IMPORTRANGE("Url of Sheet to link to", "Sheet and cell
references")
3. Get Input From a Form Into Sheets
A spreadsheet is a great way to capture and structure data, but
it can take time to add data to it. It's better if you can use a
tool like a form to get data from others in a structured format.
Luckily, Google has a form builder that automatically takes
input and puts it into a spreadsheet. Any response you receive
will be added to your Google Sheet. You can try Google
Forms.
4. Grab Up-to-Date Financial Data
Here's a Google Sheets tip that I find saves me many hours of
manually downloading and typing data. If you're tracking
stock and financial market data, using the built-in
GOOGLEFINANCE function fetches up-to-date data from
Google's hub.
Page. 8
Here's an example of using the function to grab Amazon's
stock price from February 7th:
=GOOGLEFINANCE("AMZN","price",date(2017,2,7))
OR If you want to capture data from some date to another
then
= GOOGLEFINANCE("rpower", "price", "1/4/2019",
"2/17/2020", "DAILY")
5. How to Import an Excel File to Google
Sheets
Let's start off by jumping over to Google Drive. If you don't
already have a Google account, it's free to create one and
unlocks using all of the web-based Google apps like Docs,
Sheets, and Slides.
Once you're inside of Google Sheets, click on the File
Menu button and choose Import. Browse to your Excel
spreadsheet and choose it from the file dialog box. Here its is
imported. Your excel data is imported in Google Sheets.
6. How to Export a Sheets File Back to Excel
Let's say that you've made some changes to your spreadsheet
in Sheets and need to send it back over to Excel for further
Page. 9
work. You can do that with just a few clicks by downloading
the spreadsheet.
To send a spreadsheet back to Excel, Go to file menu in
google sheets then click on Download then choose the format
Excel. It will download in Excel.
7. Create a tiny chart within a single cell
Using Sheets’ nifty Sparkline feature. Just type the command
=SPARKLINE followed by the cells you want to include, the
word “charttype,” and then the type of chart you want to
create–such as line, bar, or column–formatted like this:
=SPARKLINE(F12:F24,{"charttype","column"})Like below
-
Page. 10
8. Tap into Google’s artificial intelligence
and let Sheets perform different types of
data analysis and create complex charts for
you.
Hover your mouse over the starburst-shaped icon in the
lower-right corner of the screen, and you’ll see the word
“Explore” appear. Click that button, and Sheets will pop up a
panel of info related to your data. You can highlight specific
rows in your spreadsheet to change its focus, and you can
hover over any item it presents to find options for adjusting it
or inserting it directly into your sheet.
Page. 11
9. SHARE AND COLLABORATE
Once you’ve shared a spreadsheet –either publicly or with
specific people–you can create a custom link that’ll let
anyone with access quickly copy your spreadsheet into their
own Google account, where they can use it as a template or
modify it however they want without affecting your original
version. Just copy the URL in your browser’s address bar
while you’re viewing the spreadsheet and replace the word
“edit” at the end with “copy”—leaving you with something
like this:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1aBcDEfgHiJKLMn
OPQRSTuVWXZ/copy
Page. 12
When anyone with access to the spreadsheet opens that link,
they’ll immediately be prompted to make a copy with a
single click right then and there.
10. Sheets has the capability to create QR
codes that’ll pull up whatever URLs you
want when they’re scanned.
Powertip: Make your QR codes for your Catalogues and
share only QR code with customers they will scan and
Catalogue will open up. Formula is
=image("https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?chs=150x150&c
ht=qr&chl="&B3)Change B3 to cell where is your link for
Catalogue/Website.
11. Google Sheets formatting shortcuts
Google Sheets’ fast-formatting shortcuts are also worth
remembering. With the right combination of keys, you
Page. 13
can format any cell or selection of cells however you want,
without having to dig around in menus. Commit these to
memory:
Ctrl-Shift-1: Format as decimal
Ctrl-Shift-2: Format as time
Ctrl-Shift-3: Format as date
Ctrl-Shift-4: Format as currency
Ctrl-Shift-5: Format as percentage
Ctrl-Shift-6: Format as exponent
12. CLEAN IT UP
If you spot some extra spaces before or after data in your
spreadsheet (whether you’re looking at numbers or text),
don’t forget the Google Sheets function TRIM. You must
have used for specific cell but here I am talking for some
range. Select the range of data and use this formula all data
will be ready with proper spacing in front, mid and back.
Formula =ArrayFormula(TRIM(A2:A50))
13. Check email domain is correct or not
Maybe you have a database of user-submitted email
addresses. Well, tell Sheets to look through the addresses and
Page. 14
determine if they’re all properly formatted: Use the function
ISEMAIL(A1) with whatever cell you need–or if you want to
perform the function for a range of cells, use this format
instead:
=ArrayFormula(ISEMAIL(A2:A50))
Sheets will give you a “TRUE” or “FALSE” answer for
every email address you feed it. This way you get the data
segregated which is correct mail id and which is wrong one.
Saving you from mail failure.
14. Check URL domain is correct or not
You can validate URLs in a spreadsheet, too, to make sure
you don’t have any improper items in your list: Follow the
same procedure outlined in the previous tip but use the
function ISURL instead.
Page. 15
15. SHARE AND COLLABORATE
Once you’ve shared a spreadsheet–either publicly or with
specific people–you can create a custom link that’ll let
anyone with access quickly copy your spreadsheet into their
own Google account, where they can use it as a template or
modify it however they want without affecting your original
version. Just copy the URL in your browser’s address bar
while you’re viewing the spreadsheet and replace the word
“edit” at the end with “copy”—leaving you with something
like this:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1aBcDEfgHiJKLMn
OPQRSTuVWXZ/copy
When anyone with access to the spreadsheet opens that link,
they’ll immediately be prompted to make a copy with a
single click right then and there.
16. Let them download your content in PDF
Sheets makes it easy to export a spreadsheet in a variety of
formats via the “Download as” option in the File menu, but if
you’d rather give people a direct link to download your data
as a PDF, there’s a hidden command for doing just that: Copy
your spreadsheet’s URL, just like in the previous item, but
this time, replace the word “edit” at the end with
Page. 16
“export?format=pdf”–leaving you with a link that looks
something like:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1aBcDEfgHiJKLMn
OPQRSTuVWXZ/export?format=pdf
People with access to the spreadsheet will instantly be
presented with a PDF export as soon as they open the link.
17. Notify when any changes happen to
google sheets
When you’re sharing a spreadsheet or using a form to accept
survey-like responses, you can ask Sheets to notify you
whenever an edit or addition occurs–either immediately or as
a once-daily email digest. Look for the “Notification rules”
option in the Tools menu to set your preferences for any
particular spreadsheet.

Ch. 2 Top 22 G Suite apps for
10X Productivity
Everyone knows about G Suite’s core productivity apps like

2. Save Time With Canned Responses
(Gmail Labs)
Are you tired of answering the same questions over and over
through email?
Not only is repeating yourself annoying, it also wastes time.
Gmail has a solution to this problem with the Canned
Responses feature. Canned Responses allows you to save
and re-use any email you send as a Canned Response, which
works like an email template.
Canned Responses saves a huge amount of time, especially
if you are in a field that requires a lot of customer interaction.
Enable the Canned Responses option from the Gmail
Labs screen:

3. Listen to Google Voice Messages From
Email (Gmail Labs)
If you use Google Voice with your Google account, your
notifications are probably set up to go to your Gmail account.
When someone leaves a Google Voice message, you get an
email notification with a message transcript.
With Google Voice Player from Google Labs, listen to each
voice mail message from within Gmail.
Page. 43
4. Receive Email From Other Email
Platforms on Gmail
If you use more than one email account, you know how time-
consuming checking them all can be. You have to log in to
each email account individually and look for new messages.
If that's what you've been doing, there's a better way with
Gmail.
Page. 44
With Gmail, you can create a single, unified inbox where you
receive all your emails. If you respond to an email, choose
which email address you want the response to come from.
There's no need to log into any platform other than Gmail to
get your messages.
5. Mute Noisy Conversations in Gmail
Gmail tip: use the Mute feature to keep unwanted messages
from your inbox.
If you've ever been in a group discussion, you know it's
annoying when you're copied in on messages you don't need.
You can mute a noisy conversation in Gmail. When you mute
a conversation, future messages from that thread go straight
to your archives—skipping your inbox. To start seeing those
messages again, simply unmute the conversation.
Page. 45
6. Turn Off Gmail's Inbox Tabs
You can turn off Gmail inbox tabs.
Gmail comes with five tabs automatically defined and
enabled:
Primary
Social
Promotions
Updates
Forums
Page. 46
But the five-tab system isn't for everyone. If you don't take
part in social media or forums, for example, why would you
want those tabs to appear in your inbox? Also, you may want
a tab-less email inbox.
This Gmail tip is quick to implement. You can turn off those
extra tabs using the Settings > Inbox > Categories option.
7. Use Hangouts From Within Gmail
Use Google Hangouts/Chat to communicate quickly.
Email messages are great, but you often must wait for a reply.
Did you ever wish you could get a quicker response? You can
with this Gmail tip.
If both you and the contact you are trying to reach have a
Google account (and you are both online),
Page. 47
use Google Hangouts from within Gmail to get fast
responses. It works like instant messaging.
To use Hangouts/Chat, click the Hangouts/Chat icon (it
looks like a quotation mark) in the lower left corner of your
inbox. Click the name of the person you want to invite to the
Hangout. A Hangout/Chat dialog box appears on the right
side of your inbox. Now you can chat with your contact in
real time.
8. Change the Star Setting to Rank Email
Messages
Page. 48
9. Give Your Assistant Access to Your Gmail
You're busy. Checking email takes a lot of time. You want to
delegate this responsibility to someone else to save time.
Good news! With Gmail, you can. Gmail gives you the
ability to give someone else access to your account.
Here's how to set this up: Use the Settings > Accounts and
Import > Grant access to your account option to allow
someone else to read and reply to your messages. Use
the Leave conversation unread when opened by
others toggle to see which messages you haven't personally
read.
Page. 49
10. Place a Phone Call from Gmail
Place a phone call without leaving Gmail.
Another Gmail secret is that you can place a phone call to any
of your contacts from within your Gmail inbox. This can be
especially helpful if you need to respond to an urgent
message and want to talk to the person right away.
You'll need a microphone and speakers (I used my headset).
You'll also need to download the Google Talk plugin for
hangouts. Most calls in the U.S. and Canada are free of
charge.
Page. 50
To place your call, click the Make a call link in the lower left
corner of your Gmail inbox. Type the number you wish to
call and click on it.
Note: Your call will appear with No Caller Id.

Ch. 12 13 Digital Tools Every
New Business Needs
Modern startups run on digital tools. From communicating
with customers, collaborating internally or protecting their
assets, entrepreneurs should know that there’s a digital
platform or service for everything.
The truth is, those who don’t embrace technology may be left
behind: According to Deloitte research, “digitally advanced
small businesses” earned more revenue per employee and
were more likely to create jobs. And yet, four of five U.S.
small businesses aren’t taking full advantage of digital tools
available to them.
This gives new startups a chance to gain an instant advantage
over the competition. Start off strong with some of the
following 13 digital tools and you’ll find further
opportunities for integration, growth and success down the
road.
Project management
A new business (particularly one with a remote workforce, or
one that requires collaboration across various teams) will
need help keeping track of its myriad projects and goals.
Email isn’t optimal for this, as it’s too isolated, and it’s easy
for members to be accidentally left off an update if they
aren’t included on the latest message.
Page. 181
Project management platforms like Trello or Wrike are more
efficient. These cloud-based tools give a full and transparent
look at where each important project is in its lifecycle and
allows everyone to trace its progress from inception to
completion.
Communication and collaboration
Conversations between employees can be difficult to keep
track of, especially as your business grows. Let teams chat,
share files and integrate with other apps through a
communication tool like Slack.
Website builder
Having a website is no longer optional for any business—it’s
as important as the front door of a brick-and-mortar store. A
website says that you’re a legitimate company, and you can
use your site to impart news, information and alternative
communication channels to your customers.
If you’re not tech-savvy, however, you don’t have to settle.
Use a website builder like SquareSpace to create a clean,
mobile-optimized site that you can build out to include a
store, or promote via integrated marketing tools.
Website performance monitoring
No matter how you build your website, you’ll want to know
how people are using it (or not using it) so you can adjust and
influence them to make different decisions.
Page. 182
Try a tool like Chartbeat or Google Analytics to track your visitors
and see if they’re “bouncing” (immediately leaving), what
pages they’re clicking into and other data you can mine to
increase performance.
Customer relationship management
There’s no reason to operate your customer relationships on
the fly any longer. Too often this leads to lost or forgotten
leads, or turns repeat customers into ghosts.
Your customer relationship management (or CRM) tool will
allow you to log and track every aspect of every relationship
you build, letting you know how long it’s been since you’ve
followed up with loyal customers, or which users are visiting
your website and filling out forms but not closing the deal on
a purchase. CRM software like HubSpot helps you stay
organized internally and top-of-mind with customers.
Email marketing
Email newsletters are one of the most popular and effective
digital marketing tools out there. Use a platform
like MailChimp or Constant Contact or SendinBlue to easily design,
send and review the results of your newsletters. You can drill
down and examine who opened your emails, what links they
clicked on, and who might be most interested in a follow-up
message or offer.
Page. 183
Social media management
Not only do you need a website for your startup, but a
presence on all major social media channels is also highly
recommended. That means posting, engaging with other
users, responding to customer questions and feedback, and
otherwise being active to show your commitment to the
platform(s).
Rather than spending all day and night checking your
Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages, use a management
tool like Hootsuite to monitor feeds, schedule posts, interact and
engage, and view analytics—all from one single dashboard.
File storage and access
All of your important documents, from your project files to
your articles of incorporation, should be stored “off-site,” in
the cloud. Get Google Drive or Dropbox storage to safeguard your
backups, as well as grant access to users from any location
and make updates to important files on the fly.
Virtual private network
Cyber attacks targeting small businesses are on the rise,
which means you should take precautions to safeguard your
startup from phishers, hackers and other cybercriminals.
A VPN allows users to create a secure network connection
even when you’re using a public network—such as the public
WiFi networks at coffee shops. NordVPN is a popular option
Page. 184
for its military-grade protections and thousands of available
servers.
If you expect to conduct work from public spaces or collect
sensitive data from clients, a VPN is an affordable way to
protect you, your employees and your business.
Video conferencing software
Need to correspond with a remote team, or have a productive
meeting with clients, prospective employees or consultants?
A video conferencing solution that allows multiple parties to
join and collaborate is a must. You can try free options
like Join.me, but consider that they may max out at around 10
participants, so you can upgrade to a paid service for more
attendees.
HR management software
When you’re just starting out, you may not have a full-
fledged human resources team. HR management software can
do everything from schedule employee shifts and send out
company announcements to collect bank account information
for direct deposit. There are so many small details that a new
business owner could overlook that would then expose the
business to issues and lawsuits. Put responsibility for these
important tasks on one of the many leading digital HR
tools on the market such as GoCo.
Page. 185
Accounting software
Here’s another area of your business that can feel menial and
boring until you’re facing an audit by the IRS, or you realize
that your cash flow analysis failed to account for this month’s
payroll costs. Online accounting software like Xero,
Quickbooks does the work of an accountant and bookkeeper
by tracking your expenses and profits, reconciling debts,
sending invoices, creating expense claims, and doing just
about anything else that should be noted on your tax returns.
Keyword research tools
If you’re just getting started in the content marketing game
and want to figure out how your startup can create thoughtful,
interesting content that ranks on Google search, use a
keyword research tool like Ahrefs to investigate words and
search terms in your industry. Then build your well-written
blog posts around these terms and watch your traffic grow.
A new startup that doesn’t have an array of digital tools to
automate and simplify tasks, connect remote users and
improve operations may soon be running behind its
competitors. Start things off on the right foot by investigating
these digital tools early—it’ll be easier to scale up with them
than to retrofit your tools to your existing, perhaps inefficient,
processes.
Page. 186
Ch.13 33 Ways to Use Technology
In Your Small Business
Technology can help small business owners leverage limited
capital in smarter, more effective ways. In some cases, using
technology provides greater efficiency and versatility,
making it a natural progression for processes you may
already have in place in your business. In others, you may
need to make some adjustments to reap the benefits of tech-
friendly alternatives.
The good news is that the benefits often outweigh the short-
lived challenges of the transitional process, once new systems
are in place. Here are some areas to explore when you're
ready to ramp up your use of technology in your business.
Productivity
1. Time tracking software is an excellent tool for mapping out
where time is spent, by whom. Such analysis when properly
utilized is great for accountability, process improvement, and
productivity.
2. Streamline your work processes with digital dictation.
3. Use project management and task management tools to
stay on top of your daily business responsibilities.
4. Create a digital filing system to make it easier to sort, save,
share and find documents.
Page. 187
5. Develop an efficient email management process that
makes it easier to stay on top of the flow of messages.
Financials
6. Use an online invoicing service to reduce the costs
of collecting payment from customers.
7. Use online budget tracking to keep on top of—and
reduce—your expenses.
8. File your taxes more efficiently online.
9. Create a new income stream by selling your products
online.
10. Use a comprehensive accounting software to streamline
your business finances.
11. Share digital files with your bookkeeper or accountant to improve your ongoing bookkeeping processes.
12. Explore open source applications to replace some of the
more costly "name brand" alternatives
Marketing
13. Use software to create a marketing plan that you can edit, update and share with your team.
Page. 188
14. Use social media sites like Facebook, Twitter,
Google+, Pinterest, YouTube, etc. to promote your business,
products, and services.
15. Start a blog related to your business and target audience.
16. Collect email addresses through an opt-in form and start utilizing the power of email marketing.
17. Use video marketing.
18. Promote your business with a website and/or online
advertising.
Collaboration and Learning
19. Conduct teleconference calls to make sure team members
in different locations are on the same page.
20. Webinars or web conferences are great for keeping
everyone in the loop with travel-free face-to-face time.
21. Expand your knowledge and empower your team with online business training.
22. Share files and data with the cloud.
23. Set up an Intranet for local file sharing.
24. Communicate quickly and clearly with your team through team messaging.
Page. 189
Customer Service
25. Use social media to conduct customer service.
26. Set up an online help desk or ticket system to handle
customer issues.
27. Allow clients to schedule appointments online at their
convenience.
28. Use online surveys and questionnaires to get customer feedback.
Mobile Working and Telecommuting
29. Create a mobile office that allows you to work productively from anywhere.
30. Try a remote desktop application to access files on your office computer.
31. Go paperless to save money on supplies and storage in
your office. Added bonus: environmentally-sound choices are
cool!
32. Get a virtual phone number and electronic fax line that
you can take anywhere.
33. Use your smartphone and select apps that sync with the
cloud to stay connected when you're on the go.

Ch.14 20+ Gifts for the
Entrepreneur in Your Life
The holidays are almost upon us—do you have all of your
gifts ready?
I’ll admit, I only just finished ordering presents for everyone
on my list (and I’m crossing my fingers that they all get here
on time!).
But maybe you’re still feeling at a loss for what to get the
entrepreneur on your list. After all, they’re starting a
business (or maybe running one); they need something that
will make their life easier.
Or, maybe you’re the entrepreneur—feel free to share a link
to this post with your friends and family (hint hint). We
won’t judge.

For entrepreneurs who need to keep track of
great ideas
1. Moleskine notebooks
A classic, and a favorite around our office, these sleek, handy
little notepads were suggested multiple times!
They come in multiple sizes and colors, both lined and
unlined, to suite a variety of note-taking styles.
2. A Moleskine Evernote Smart Notebook
Taking the beloved Moleskine one step further is their
partnership with Evernote, which allows you to digitize your
notes.
Essentially, Moleskine has created a line of notebooks with
specially lined pages that, when photographed with the
Evernote app, become searchable, digital versions of your
handwritten notes. A must for entrepreneurs who like to keep
things old school, but would also like to integrate Evernote’s
great technology into pen-and-paper notes.
3. A whiteboard with markers
For entrepreneurs who love a good brainstorming session,
why not a nice big whiteboard?
Page. 192
With to-do lists a mile long, a whiteboard is something any
budding entrepreneur would appreciate.
4. Some great pens
These Sharpie Fine Point Pens are a favorite around the office,
and they would make a great gift for any entrepreneur—
maybe with a few Moleskines? Just don’t use them on that
whiteboard!
For entrepreneurs who want to learn more
5. A great book (or several) on entrepreneurship
Where do we even start? We’re huge fans of Lean
Planning here at Palo Alto Software, so “The Lean Startup” is
definitely a good place to start, as is “The Art of the Start.” A
few other great reads: “Atomic Habits” by James Clear, and
Rand Fishkin’s “Lost and Founder.”
Page. 193
6. A Kindle
With so many great books on entrepreneurship, a Kindle or
other e-reader might be the perfect gift for an entrepreneur.
With a seemingly endless amount of ebooks, they’ll be able
to enjoy your gift over and over again.
For entrepreneurs who are ready to start
and run their businesses
7. An annual LivePlan subscription
We’d be remiss in not recommending our own business
planning software here; a subscription to LivePlan would
make a great gift for the entrepreneur who needs to write a
plan to seek a loan or investment.
But, one of LivePlan’s superpowers is actually in better
business management. Connecting LivePlan
to Quickbooks or Xero puts mere mortals in the driver’s seat
with an easy to use business dashboard at their fingertips. It’s
the gift of no more spreadsheets.
Page. 194
8. A Square card reader
If you know that your favorite entrepreneur is planning on
accepting card payments and needs a small, convenient
mobile payment processor, why not look into giving them
a Square card reader?
The process of accepting payments can be a hassle, so
anything that solves this problem is bound to make a fantastic
holiday gift.
If you’re not sure Square will fit their needs, you can read
more about our favorite payment processors here: The Best
Mobile Payment Processor.
9. A subscription to Evernote Premium
Evernote’s free service is great, but a budding entrepreneur
(or even a more seasoned one) would likely appreciate the
increased functionality of Evernote’s premium edition, which
lets users turn their notes into presentations, sync across their
devices, access notes even when offline, and more.
Page. 195
For entrepreneurs who need a boost to take
on the day
10. A great coffee-making set up
Late nights and early mornings are inevitable for
entrepreneurs. How about making that process easier with
some great coffee? An Aeropress coffee maker, the ever-
fancy Chemex, or my personal favorite pour over method all
make great cups of coffee. Pick up some beans from your
favorite local roaster, and you’re in business.
11. A Hydroflask
To keep their coffee or tea toasty, a Hydroflask is a great gift.
These vacuum-sealed wonders keep hot things hot and cold
things cold, and won’t spill in a bag or backpack, which is
great for entrepreneurs on the go.
For entrepreneurs who need to stay
connected
Page. 196
12. A portable wallet charger
I am notorious for being suddenly unreachable due to a dead
phone, and this can be a real issue for someone starting or
running a new business. This thin, portable charger fits easily
into a wallet, making it possible to stay connected at all
times.
13. A backup phone battery charger
On that note, any type of backup phone battery is a solid bet.
If you’re running a business or in the process of starting one,
it could mean more than a small hassle if your phone is
constantly dying. Check out Digital Trends’ list of the best
portable phone chargers.
For entrepreneurs who like to take chances
14. An executive decision maker paperweight
Page. 197
In the same vein as the magic eight balls we all remember
from childhood, this amusing paperweight will make any
tough decision for you. (We at Palo Alto Software take no
responsibility for any negative fallout that may result from
leaving important business decisions up to a paperweight,
however.)
For entrepreneurs that need to relax
15. HeadSpace or Calm App subscription
A meditation app can be just enough of a reminder to take
time out and breathe in the new year. Too much stress can
lead to burnout and can make the challenges of growing a
business seem insurmountable. Just a few moments of calm
each day can really help.
16. A miniature zen garden
A fun addition to any entrepreneur’s desk, this mini zen
garden is a cute way to take a break from a busy day. Give
this to your favorite stressed-out entrepreneur—they may roll
their eyes at you, but they’ll secretly get a kick out of it.
Page. 198
17. A yoga class pass
Another fantastic way to help your favorite entrepreneur relax
is the gift of yoga. Simply head over to your local yoga studio
(preferably one close to their place of work or home) and
pick up a pass or a gift card!
For entrepreneurs who have it all (or who
don’t like clutter)
18. Something intangible
Celeste Peterson, our director of people development, says
maybe a thing isn’t the right choice. “Some business owners
don’t want more stuff to clutter their busy lives,” she says.
“Get that person a gift card, subscription or membership for
something they need, and save them some money and time.
An Audible membership so they can listen to books on the
way to the office, or a gift certificate to their favorite lunch
cafe might be perfect.”
Page. 199
For entrepreneurs ready to establish a social
presence
19. A decent camera
While potentially one of the more costly presents, a camera
will greatly help any entrepreneur who is looking to improve
their social presence, allowing them to take great shots for
their Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter feeds, or upload
Youtube videos. To get started, check out this list of the top
cameras for bloggers and small businesses.
20. An octopus tripod
Another great addition to any entrepreneur’s social media
arsenal is this flexible, light tripod, which works both on flat
surfaces and oddly shaped ones. It works with both a
traditional camera and includes a cell phone mount, making it
easy to take anything from product pictures, to marketing
videos on the go and from any angle.
Page. 200
For entrepreneurs who need to tune out
21. A pair of noise-canceling headphones
Whether it’s a busy office or a noisy coffee shop, to get work
done sometimes you need to block out the noise around you.
Some noise canceling headphones are a huge asset when it
comes to working distraction-free.
Bose is considered by many to be the gold standard, but there
are plenty of options. There are even those that aren’t
necessarily billed as noise canceling but still do a pretty nice
job, like my personal favorite Sony MDRXB950AP/H Extra
Bass Smartphone Headset (I’m wearing them as I write, and
I’m a frequent busy coffee shop-worker).
Page. 201
For accident-prone entrepreneurs
22. A washable keyboard
Accidents happen, but for an entrepreneur in the throes of
planning or running their business, they can be hugely
inconvenient. Spilled a cup of coffee? Little one knocks over
their juice? This washable keyboard will be a lifesaver.
For entrepreneurs whose offices could use a
little help
23. A Bluetooth speaker
To help liven up a new home office, a Bluetooth
speaker like this one from Bose is a great bet. Larger versions
would also make a great gift for an entrepreneur who is
opening up a small shop and needs help setting the mood.
24. A dose of (non-cheesy) motivation
Whenever I need great prints, I turn to Etsy. Some of my
Page. 202
favorites, which are sure to brighten up any new office and
inspire greatness? This sweet floral-themed print, this bold,
awesome statement, and one of my personal favorite quotes on
a mug, courtesy of Ron Swanson.
25. Something fun and playful (and, yes, a little
nerdy)
Check out sites like ThinkGeek and UncommonGoods for
cute, unique gifts that would brighten up any workspace. My
favorites? This BB-8 desk lamp, or this set of mini Harry
Potter characters, which would look awfully cute on a desk.
For entrepreneurs who have an exercise
habit (or would like to build one)
26. A GPS watch or other activity tracker
If your favorite entrepreneur is a budding fitness enthusiast,
they might appreciate an activity tracker like those made
by Fitbit, or a GPS running watch if they’re a runner. I
personally use a Garmin GPS watch and a Fitbit Flex 2 and
love them both.
Page. 203
For entrepreneurs on the go
27. A nice laptop bag
Making travel to and from work and meetings easy, a sturdy,
professional looking laptop bag is a must-have. Timbuk2
messenger bags are always classic and sporty, and I’m a big fan
of this canvas and leather messenger or this felt one.
For entrepreneurs who need to look sharp
28. Design-it-yourself button-down shirts
I’ve never seen anything quite like OriginalStitch, which
allows you to customize shirts to create seemingly endless
Page. 204
combinations. Does your favorite entrepreneur have lots of
meetings, presentations, and networking opportunities
coming up? This could be a great, unique gift.
For entrepreneurs who never stop
planning—even in the shower
29. Aqua Notes waterproof notepad
I’m not sure what it is about a good shower, but sometimes
the best ideas come at the strangest times. This
cute waterproof notepad means ideas won’t ever go forgotten
because they couldn’t be written down.

Ch. 15 8 Proven Small Business
Digital Marketing Tactics that
Get Results
Small businesses that are not using digital marketing need to
understand the importance of it. Because small business
digital marketing helps your business thrive in today’s
competitive landscape and lets you make your mark.
However, for many, small business digital marketing may
seem confusing or intimidating, especially when it comes to
using the right tactics. Questions pop up such as:
How can you be sure of what methods to apply so that you
get real-world results?
What small business digital marketing tactics will help you
get the most exposure?
How do you achieve your marketing goals without wasting
valuable time and money?
Where should you start to ensure you’re reaching the right
audience?
Page. 206
Being a small business owner, you need to have some clarity
before you jump into the digital marketing arena. The good
thing is, gaining the right level of clarity is not rocket science.
The proof lies in the fact that a large percentage of regular
entrepreneurs are experimenting with small business digital
marketing and with great success.
According to a research conducted by Infusionsoft, most
small business owners are using social media content in order
to generating more sales. And 3/4 of respondents said
Facebook is an integral part of their social media marketing
strategy.
Page. 207
Even though small business digital marketing may look
difficult or complicated in the start, it’s far from it. However,
if you still need help creating and implementing a small
business digital marketing plan, you can always get in
touch with our team at “Dipanshu Vijay Your Business
Handholding Coach”.
Having said that, let’s now look into 8 effective small
business digital marketing tactics that will fetch you positive
results:
8 Effective Small Business Digital Marketing
Tactics
Tactic #1: Create Shareable Content
Producing the right kind of content is an important part of
effective small business digital marketing. Your content can
make or your break your digital marketing strategy.
On one hand, bad and low quality content that is not relevant
can hurt your brand. And on the other hand, high quality
content can help you build a strong relationship with your
target audience, improve your brand image and boost your
business revenue.
However, even good content will fail to give results if it isn’t
seen and shared by the right people. The idea is to create
content that:
Page. 208
Helps your business reach its marketing goals and grow its
reach.
Helps your audience with the needed answers and encourages
them to share it.
So how do you find this middle ground and create content
that is highly relevant? How do you get more of your
audience to share your content?
Aim at producing content that brings out an emotional
reaction from your audience, because many times people
share content for emotional reasons.
Look into what your competition is creating in terms of
content that is getting shares and produce something on the
same lines.
Page. 209
Make your content super-useful and practical so that it offers
real value to your prospects/customers because people like
sharing content that can help others.
Create content that tells a story so that it’s more engaging and
relatable to your audience’s current situation.
Don’t talk about yourself too much. Yes, you may be the
‘best’ in your field and you are probably the most award
winning, longest running and biggest company in your field –
but let’s face it, your customers are not there to read about
you. They are at your website or social media pages to read
what you can do for them. The classic “What’s in it for me”
question of your customers should be your priority.
Every single step that you take towards making your content
valuable for your readers, you are one step closer to making it
more shareable.
Tactic #2: Optimize for Both Mobile &
Desktop Marketing
For many small business owners, the difference between
desktop marketing and mobile marketing may not seem too
obvious. After all, they both work on similar lines. However,
if you want to get the most out of your small business digital
marketing efforts, you need to achieve a better understanding
of how both work. And more importantly, how people are
going to engage with your brand on them.
Page. 210
As a small business, the most important thing to figure out is
how you can get more prospects to convert into customers.
Which means you cannot ignore neither desktop marketing
nor mobile marketing. Both are equally important to help you
reach your marketing goals.
Talking about desktop, you need to focus on delivering a
great user experience to your visitors so that they not only
stay longer, but also take the desired action. How easy your
website is in terms of usability ultimately determines how
connected and engaged your target audience feels. Keep track
of how people are using your website and what pages are
most popular so that you can improve the user experience one
step at a time.
Page. 211
Now, when it comes to mobile, you need to ensure that your
site is efficient in every way. When people access it from
their mobile devices, they should get what they are looking
for without any confusion.
A mobile-friendly website is not just about the design, but
about the overall experience and how well it can convert. So
see to it that your site is mobile-responsive and loads at warp
speed. And yes, don’t forget to optimize it for the search
engines.
Tactic #3: Focus on Organic Social Media
When it comes to effective small business digital marketing,
how can we ignore the importance of social media? Investing
in social media marketing is a no-brainer for any small
business that wants to extend its reach.
If you look at the stats you’ll see that almost 70% of
consumers like to use social media for customer support. And
33% prefer social media over the telephone.
The fact is, social media is being used by every brand that
cares about its audience and wants to be a part of healthy
competition. If your prospective customers don’t find your
presence of social media, it’ll not only create a poor
impression but they may also choose to reach out to your
competitors who are using social media.
Page. 212
If you truly want to leverage social media marketing and get
the most out of it, then you need to actively use the popular
social media channels where your audience is likely to be.
You cannot use social media as a mere promotional tool to
find success with it. While promoting your product/service is
okay, you need to keep it at the minimum and focus on
organic growth.
By producing content that lets you create unpaid or organic
growth, you create long term stability and increase trust with
Page. 213
your social media followers. Working on increasing your
organic engagement rate can help your social media
marketing in more than one way as it:
Slowly and steadily improves your organic reach at no
cost. Later on you can invest into your chosen
platform’s paid options to amplify your reach.
Brings down the overall cost that you can accrue when
you spend on promoting your social media content.
Helps create strong social proof so that you can win
more followers and convert them into customers.
Because having a higher number of
followers/likes/shares on your social accounts will
make people trust your brand more easily.
Lets you tap into the immediate network of your
followers when their friends/followers see them engage
with your content.
Organic social media may not seem like a big deal, especially
when everybody’s using it. However, the difference between
successful organic social media campaigns and not-so-
successful ones is consistency. While your competitors may
not be consistent in their efforts, you can be. We practice
organic growth and consistency with all of our clients. Check

services to see which would be best for your small business.
Tactic #4: Host Value-Packed Webinars
If you’re active in the digital marketing circles, you should
Page. 214
already know what a webinar is. A webinar is nothing but an
online seminar that can be one of the following:
Presentation
Demonstration
Discussion
The best thing about webinars is that they are more engaging
and workable when compared to basic video content. Since
webinars start and end at a designated time, they
automatically have a scarcity element to them. And usually
follow with a Q&A session. Which increases their perceived
value even if the information presented is no different than a
video.
The fact of the matter is, webinar marketing is an
underutilized small business digital marketing tactic. You
could call it the next big thing in marketing because:
Page. 215
A properly done webinar lets you:
Connect and interact with your audience in real-time.
Answer the burning questions your audience might
have.
Give away real value that your audience loves to
receive.
Position yourself or your brand as a credible industry
expert that people can turn to.
Make targeted sales without a hard sales pitch.
Generate high quality, targeted leads that convert.
Qualify your leads and build valuable relationships
with them.
Improve and enhance your sales process and get a
better return on investment, quicker.
It doesn’t matter what kind of products or services you sell,
webinars can help you gain more exposure, get more leads,
and make more sales.
Page. 216
Tactic #5: Run A/B Split Tests Regularly
Without the right level of testing, running a successful small
business digital marketing campaign is not easy. But still we
find that testing is often put on the back burner, especially by
people new to the digital marketing scene.
A small business that regularly tests everything, right from
the smallest elements to the biggest variables, can and will
have a definite competitive advantage over other businesses
that go with their guesswork. Your business needs to develop
the habit of testing right from the beginning so that you can
achieve a higher return on investment in the long run.
For example, simple tweaks to headlines and the color of call
to action buttons can result in a higher conversion rate. But
you won’t know what changes to make unless and until you
test one element against another. Effective testing is a step by
step process, and it cannot be done overnight. Which is why
it’s crucial to take your time and isolate each variable and test
it.
Page. 217
Tactic #6: Have a Conversion-Focused Web Design
If you’re using small business digital marketing to get more
leads or sales, then you need to understand the importance of
having a favorable conversion rate. Every business,
regardless of its size, should focus creating a strong
foundation for growth by focusing on increasing the
conversion rate. Which means any marketing or design
related decision you take should keep conversion in the
forefront.
You not only want your ads and email copy to convert, but
also your website where all the action happens. Your site
should be created in a way that it helps you convert more
visitors into leads that can turn into customers. You want
people to give you repeat business, which means your site
should be sticky enough to bring them back.
The definition of a perfect, workable business website is
simple: one that is specifically designed to fetch you a high
conversion rate. While the aesthetic appeal of your site is
important, it shouldn’t be done at the cost of losing
customers. So if the design of your website is not conversion-
centric, you’re leaving money on the table. If you’re no
website design guru, then leave the designing to our experts
who can fix your site or create you a new one that converts.
Page. 218
Let’s face it; the Internet is no longer the new kid on the
block that only the nerds know about. It’s become a huge part
of our lives, which means it’s getting more crowded day after
day.
Having said that, it’s important to stand out of the crowd with
a conversion-focused design so that you get your prospective
customers to buy from you, rather than your competitors.
Given below are a few tips to help you with it:
Know beforehand where you want to place your call-
to-action button/link. Do a bit of testing to see if it
works on the bottom of the page or above the fold.
Work on making your website as user-friendly as
possible so that your visitors are able to access all
elements.
Aim to have a simple design that doesn’t overwhelm
your visitors. A crammed-up design will only make
people want to leave your site, leave alone buy from
you. Which leads to a higher bounce rate and a lower
conversion rate.
Page. 219
Do not ignore the importance of color selection
because color psychology plays a key role in branding
and improving conversions. Spend time choosing the
right colors so that they don’t hurt the eyes and are
inviting.
No matter what type of small business digital marketing
tactic you want to apply, make sure your website is fully
ready to convert prospects into customers.
Tactic #7: Leverage the Power of Social
Proof
When it comes to finding success with small business digital
marketing, many companies think that having a great product
or service is enough. However, with competition growing day
by day, it’s getting increasingly difficult to grab the attention
of your prospective customers and convert them.
Having a quality product and along with a professionally
designed website may help you attract the right people. But
when it comes to winning their trust and turning them into
loyal customers, you need more than that. You need social
proof.
People these days seek validation before they commit to a
product or a service. They want to spend money on
something only after they are sure it works as it says.
Page. 220
Which is why they want to know if other people have
experience with you or your product. If they find a good
percentage of existing customers/clients speaking good of
you, it’ll be easier for them to make a buying decision.
The reason why you find major retailers like Amazon and
Walmart gunning for product reviews on their site is because
social proof works. Even many smaller businesses are
leveraging the power of social proof to show their audience
how existing customers are liking their product. In short,
buyers are being influenced by what others around them think
and do.
However, if you look around you’ll find that many who are
using small business digital marketing have zero testimonials
listed on their website. Are they missing out an opportunity to
convert more people into customers? Of course yes. Is it too
Page. 221
late to use social proof for them? Absolutely not.
If you’re still not convinced about the power of social proof,
check out the following reasons as to why you need it more
than anything:
Text, audio and video testimonials make your product/service
look more credible and trustworthy.
People like doing their homework before investing in a
product/service. No wonder they trust online
reviews/recommendations more than sales pitches.
Page. 222
Real social proof can help enhance your SEO efforts. Your
brand looks more viable and worthy when search users see
ratings displayed right in the search results.
When you ask for feedback from your existing customers you
indirectly show them that they are valued. They see that you
care about them, which helps improve the relationship
between you and your customer base.
The right kind of social proof can and will make a difference
to your business and to its bottomline. All you need to do is
focus on consistently generating more of it.
Tactic #8: Build a Targeted Email List
Ask any experienced small business digital marketing expert,
and he or she will tell you to build an email list right from the
start. Still, we find many small businesses actively avoiding
email list building.
If you want to have a trusted channel to drive repeat sales and
build a solid relationship with your audience, then you need
to have your own email list. A responsive email list is even
more valuable than an active social media following.
A large percentage of marketers who have tasted success with
email marketing see it as the topmost channel for generating
high quality business leads that convert into sales.
Page. 223
Also, according to a study conducted by McKinsey, email is
a staggering 40 times more effective in helping you get more
customers when compared to social media giants Facebook
and Twitter combined.
If you’ve been running your business for a while, you should
already have an audience that you connect with. You may
already be getting traffic to your website and you could
already be making sales.
However, effective small business digital marketing is not
just about getting new customers.
No, it’s also about building a relationship with your existing
customers so that you can generate more sales. Since the cost
of gaining new customers is much higher, this relationship
can prove to be crucial to your business.
Page. 224
By leveraging email marketing, you’ll be able to stay
connected to your customers, give them value over time and
send them targeted offers they are interested in.
Here are a five solid reasons as to why email marketing
should be an integral part of your small business digital
marketing strategy:
1. Grow Credibility: People tend to trust credible
sources more than non-credible ones. Which means people
who are familiar with your brand and like you are more likely
to do business with you. Using email you can consistently
give value to your audience in the form of useful/informative
content and in the process grow your credibility.
2. Nurture Relationships: It doesn’t matter what
products you sell or how big/small your business is, you need
to build and nurture relationships with your customers. The
stronger your customer relationships, the more stable your
business. Email lets you stay connected with your customers
and engage with on a regular basis throughout the year.
Customers who have a relationship with you will sit up and
take notice every time you email them.
3. Enhance Communication: Every business
needs to communicate with customers from time to time for
different reasons. It could be an important news update or a
product announcement or anything that matters to your
Page. 225
business. You will find that email is a channel you can count
on because it allows for easy communication. You can email
your customers right away with the smallest of the updates,
which will make them feel more valued.
4. Build Brand: Want more of your prospects and
customers to identify with your brand and share information
about it with others? Email marketing is a great way to get
more brand recognition and improve your reach overtime.
5. Generate Traffic: Create a blog post that you want
more people to read? Launched a product that you want more
exposure to? Updated your pricing structure with a limited
time discount? Your email campaigns can help you drive
traffic to any page, any offer, any time of the day. All it takes
is one well-constructed email pitch to drive back laser
targeted traffic to your site.

Ch. 18 How to Set Up Outlook:
Complete Tutorial
If you are looking for a better way to manage emails, why not
use an email client like Microsoft Outlook? It is mainly
used for receiving, sending and storing emails. However, it
has plenty of other functions such as calendar, tasks, contacts
and many more. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to set up
your email in Microsoft Outlook.
Prerequisites
There are a few things that you must prepare before you start
configuring the email client.
1. Domain name – example.com 2. Your email address – [email protected]
3. Your email password
4. IMAP/POP and SMTP configuration
Assuming you already have a domain and created an email,
you must already have the first three prerequisites mentioned.
However, to access your email through an email client, you
must have the details of incoming (IMAP/POP) and outgoing
(SMTP) servers.
IMAP vs POP
So, what’s the difference between IMAP and POP?
Page. 246
IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) makes it possible
to sync in real-time with the servers on webmail.
For example, if you mark a message as unread on Outlook,
then the real email on the server is marked as unread too.
This choice is preferable if you want to use Microsoft
Outlook on multiple devices.
POP (Post Office Protocol) downloads and stores your email
locally. Any changes you make on Outlook won’t appear on
the webmail.
However, you can still set Outlook to make changes on the
server – deleting, saving drafts, and so on. The upside to POP
is even when you have no internet connection – or the server
goes down – you can still access your email.
Finding the IMAP/POP and SMTP
Configuration
Different hosting providers have different configuration
processes.
If you are a Hostinger user, navigate to your control panel
and scroll down to the Emails section.
Page. 247
After you click on Email Accounts, scroll down a bit to see
the information you need under Email details.
You may copy-paste the details to a Notepad file for
safekeeping or simply leave the page open – you’ll need to
use this to set up your email on Microsoft Outlook.
How to Set up Outlook
Now that you’ve taken care of the prerequisites, it’s time to
learn how to set up Outlook.

different sections for each one of them. The versions we’re
