KWGA Playday Guidelines

Welcome to the 2020 KWGA Golf Season! As we begin the new season, please

remember these guidelines for each play day. If you are a new member, welcome

and please ask questions of any member!

Online Sign Up:

Your sign up for each week is through the link on the KWGA website:

kwga.kingwoodgolf.online. For mobile users, you can put this link on your

smartphone too. There will be an opportunity to sign up for more than one play

day. You will receive a confirmation email after you sign up (please retain this email

so you know you signed up!). The Online Sign Up is closed on Sunday at midnight

for Tuesday’s game. So look at the weather, check your calendar, and sign up by

Sunday midnight! Pairings will be available at check-in on Tuesday mornings.

Monday Adds or Cancels after Online Sign Up:

If you need to cancel or decide to play after the Sunday midnight deadline, 18 holers

please call or text Kathy Deitz at 713.703.8151. 9 holers call or text Dorothy

Morrison at 713.598.0615. When you contact us, please let us know your first and

last name. You will know that we received it because we will respond with a short

reply. Those wishing to play after the Sunday midnight deadline will be worked into

the playing field.

Tuesday Adds or Cancels:

If you decide you want to play or to cancel on a Tuesday morning, PLEASE Call the

Pro Shop at 281-348-2217. If the Pro Shop fails to answer, please call Kathy Deitz

for 18 Holers at 713.703.8151 or Dorothy Morrison at 713.598.0615 so that we can

start working on any cancels and adds. When you call, please be clear to the pro

shop that you are with the KWGA 18 Holers or 9 Holers and that you are cancelling

and that they understand your name. It is very difficult for the other players (and us)

if you don’t show up and don’t call or show up without calling! There is someone at

the Pro Shop by 6:30 a.m. We work closely with Tim and Lisa in the Pro Shop.

Please help us create the best pairings possible!

Page 12: Page 1 32...2 KINGWOOD WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION 2020 YEARBOOK Organized in 1974 KINGWOOD COUNTRY CLUB 1700 Lake Kingwood Trail Kingwood, Texas 77339 The goal of this Association

the due date. Any member who resigns and wishes to rejoin will pay the $55.00

yearly fee. Anyone who joins on or after October 1 will pay $20.00. In addition, a

fee will be billed for maintaining handicaps.

provide the Pro Shop with the GHIN Number. If not, provide your last 20 scores and

the course and slope ratings for each score.

Dual Handicap Index: If you maintain a handicap at more than one course, you are

responsible for seeing that your scores are input into GHIN at all courses.

Page 15: Page 1 32...2 KINGWOOD WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION 2020 YEARBOOK Organized in 1974 KINGWOOD COUNTRY CLUB 1700 Lake Kingwood Trail Kingwood, Texas 77339 The goal of this Association

SCORECARD PROCEDURES:

In the event that printed score cards are not provided, KWGA requests that the

competitor indicate only: Legible Name, Member Number, each hole score, each

hole putts, total gross score, handicap (for the course), and total net score, total

putts, flight number and the event score. Circle (or otherwise clearly identify) birdies

and indicate if breaking 80, 90 or 100 (50 for 9-Holers) for the first time. The

Competitor must sign (attest) and date scorecard after the scorer, a fellow

competitor has signed your card. After play, turn in completed scorecard for the

stipulated round as well as x’d out or withdrawn scorecards to Playday Chair or

designated spot after play. All playday scorecards must be turned in. Note: Chip-ins

(18 holers) are noted and attested on a list at the Check-In Table in the locker room

immediately following play.

DISCONTINUANCE OF PLAY, RESUMPTION OF PLAY, AND CANCELLATION

OF PLAY PROCEDURES AS IT APPLIES TO KWGA PLAYDAYS:

Decisions about Suspension, Resumption and Cancellation of Play will be made by

and communicated by the KWGA Committee.

The Committee will be the First Vice President & Playday Chairman, Fourth Vice

President & 9 Hole Chairman and the Head Pro(s) in charge.

An uncancelled Playday and/or Tournament will be deemed a valid playday if 8 or

more players for 18 Holers play a stipulated round that day on the same designated

course.

Players must turn in completed scorecards to the Playday Chairman or 9 Hole

Chairman or designated spot.

When play is suspended, usually due to weather, competitors are to return to the

clubhouse when it is safe to do so, report to the committee and await a decision by

the Committee as to resume play or if play is cancelled. Players choosing not to

continue play must turn in their scorecards.

A stipulated round (18 holes or 9 holes) must be played for a player to receive

KWGA course credit, ringer scores, and event winnings. Only USGA handicap

credit can be tabulated if only 13 or more holes (18 Holers) or only 7 or more holes

(9 Holers) are completed. In this circumstance, scorecards are to be turned in to the

Playday Chairman or 9 Hole Chairman or designated spot and the Playday

Chairman will see that the cards are input for handicap credit.

Page 16: Page 1 32...2 KINGWOOD WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION 2020 YEARBOOK Organized in 1974 KINGWOOD COUNTRY CLUB 1700 Lake Kingwood Trail Kingwood, Texas 77339 The goal of this Association

There is no hard-and-fast rule as to when to cancel a round. The proper action

depends on the circumstances in each case and must be left to the judgment of the

Committee.

The KWGA Committee will determine when play is cancelled.

If it is likely a playday is cancelled prior to play members may call the Pro Shop, or

the 1st or 4th Vice President to validate. They may also check their email for a

message before coming to the Check-in table.

However, if they find no other notice that play is cancelled they should follow normal

Check- in procedures. If play is suspended and then cancelled before everyone has

completed a stipulated round, then the playday is cancelled and no KWGA course

credit, ringers or event winnings will be awarded.

9 Hole Playday requirements are as follows:

Must have a minimum of 4 players for money prize

Must have a minimum of 2 players for ringers

If there are 5 or more players can pay out winner for low putts. If there are 8 or more

players can pay 2 places and low putts

SATURDAY PLAYDAY

To qualify for a pay-off of a gift certificate, there must be a minimum of four (4)

eligible players. To qualify for year-end awards, there must be two (2) eligible

players.

RINGERS

The Ringer Chair will post scores in the ringer file. The Ringer Chair keeps a record

of the best score you have on each hole you play for the year. She also tracks all

birdies. Birdies should be circled or otherwise clearly marked on your scorecard.

Page 17: Page 1 32...2 KINGWOOD WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION 2020 YEARBOOK Organized in 1974 KINGWOOD COUNTRY CLUB 1700 Lake Kingwood Trail Kingwood, Texas 77339 The goal of this Association

RULES

The USGA rules govern all play. In addition, local committee rules may apply. A

current rules book should be obtained at your own expense unless it is provided at

the annual rules clinic. Rules sheets will be distributed for all major tournaments. If

a question arises while playing, play a second ball and discuss it with the Head Pro

and the Rules Committee after play. The Head Pro and Rules Committee will make

a decision based upon this request.

SPECIAL RULES

18th HOLE OF ISLAND COURSE (18 and 9 Holers) - On a playday, but NOT in

major or minor tournaments, you may pick up at any time BEFORE YOUR BALL IS

ON THE GREEN and mark your score with a 12 and 4 putts. You may use the

special “DROP ZONE” to the right of the bridge, if in attempting to land on the 18th

green, YOUR BALL HAS HIT LAND AND DROPPED BACK INTO THE WATER OR

IF YOU HAVE FLOWN THE GREEN AND LANDED IN THE WATER ON THE

OTHER SIDE. This does not include shots hitting the bulkhead and dropping in the

water, as the bulkhead is part of the hazard. A one-stroke penalty must be taken if

you use the drop zone.

10th HOLE OF THE MARSH COURSE (18 and 9 Holers) - On playday, but not in

tournaments, you may hit a provisional ball if you cannot tell if your ball is in the

hazard.

10th HOLE OF THE MARSH COURSE (9 Holers Only) On a playday, but NOT in

tournaments, you must hit TWO balls in the marsh before it can be walked over, plus

take an additional penalty stroke. Example: if you were in the marsh on 2, out on 3,

in on 4, out on 5, walking over on 6, you would be hitting 7 (dropping within 2 club

lengths from the marsh). The player would be eligible to be a winner for that

playday.

9 Holers only - On playdays, but NOT in tournaments, a 9 Hole player has the

OPTION to pick up her ball at anytime on any hole and mark her score with a 12,

taking 4 putts for that hole. The round will count for year-end course requirements,

putts and ringers. If done on Island 18 or Marsh 10 the player is eligible to be a

winner for that playday. On any hole other than Island 18 or Marsh 10 the player is

not eligible to be a winner for that playday.

Page 18: Page 1 32...2 KINGWOOD WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION 2020 YEARBOOK Organized in 1974 KINGWOOD COUNTRY CLUB 1700 Lake Kingwood Trail Kingwood, Texas 77339 The goal of this Association

KWGA playday procedures will apply unless otherwise specified.

Weekly winners are posted on the KWGA Website. Event and Low Putts winners

receive $4 Pro Shop credit. One award is given for every 4 players on playdays .

Prizes for Major Tournaments are awarded at the end of the tournament.

PLAYDAY NOTE (18 Holers): You may pick up your ball at any time on a

PLAYDAY, marking your scorecard for that hole with an “X”. At that time, you are

disqualified from the event and your score will not count toward Ringers or Year End

Awards. Please turn your card in for handicap posting

by signing the CLOSEST TO THE PIN SHEET appropriate to your handicap and

putting 50 cents in the respective CLOSEST TO THE PIN CAN. If playday is

get two equal shares of the pot with the other winners.

The pot will carry over from week to week until a CHIP-IN occurs. When a carryover

pot is broken by a CHIP-IN, the person(s) chipping in will share as above, whether

she entered on the carryover weeks or just that day. Guests are not allowed to

participate.

Northwoods Interclub is a group of 11 clubs in the north Houston area that take turns

hosting a playday once a month on a Thursday (usually on the 4th Thursday)

starting in January. All 18-hole players belonging to their clubs’ Ladies Golf

Association are invited to play. The maximum handicap allowed is 36 and

determined by index and slope.

The $50 entry fee includes golf, cart rental, lunch and prize money. There is a $2

optional donation for two “Closest to the Pin” prizes and a $1 fee for the Hole-in-One

prize pot.

Players are divided into flights with no more than 10-12 players of the same

approximate handicap level in each flight. There are 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in each

flight. The Stableford point system is used for scoring and the top four scores from

each club determine how the club ranks.

It is a great way to get to play other courses in our area and to meet ladies from

other clubs (think Member/Guest). The first 11 to sign up are guaranteed to play and

others may play if there are openings available. Sign up will be on-line starting

about a month prior to play. Be sure to give it a try – you’ll be glad you did!
