LES DEACON tells us about hospitals

Honorary . member Les Deacon is presently convalescing in Maunalani Hospital. Prior t.o this, he was in St e

Francis Hospital, and it was during that period that Bob Sato urged Les to ''In te about his hospital experiences. Les Deacon has obliged with a long manuscript setting down~ in step~by-step seqlence, his eXperien ces from the moment of his grand entrance, to the SOpis governing hospital routines.

Les Deacon's manuscript will be published in several installments" Perhaps, Lea might further oblige \.u th another manuscript from :tJIaunalani 0

To Les.~ the members of' Club 100 ldsh you a speedy recovery ..

This ,vill introduce the f:ir tlt~ of a series of articles on the subject o.r Hospitals. Subsequent o.rticles l'ii.ll appear in later issues of the ttPuka Pu.ka Parade? U Almost every memb~r of Club 100 has been in a hospiteJ. or hospitals" These articles are being written in a hospital" OU.:r eomments are not directed to anyone particulru'" hospital, but reflect experiences in many · over a period of years. It is remarkable hOlt: closely SOP in anyone of these insti tu ti ons resemble SOP in all of the othe rs.

Bob Sato suggested that these be written for publication in the "Puka Puka Parade", subject of course to approva~ and extensive editing by the Editor ..

This outburst is written in a hospital. The first (and longest) section is "How to Get Into a Hospital" If The explanation for thy length is that many of you are probably unfamiliar with this sinister aspect of civilian hospital SOP; your experience largely has been wi th military hospitals. But sooner or later you or some member of your f amily ~ (though it is hoped not) land in a civilian hospital. So let's face it, men.

The secom section is IIA Hospital is a \'vonderful Place to Rest. II Hi th this you are quite familiar. Here it is covered in the light of t he experiences of a med:L~al patient - a Ifheart case ." Letter to the Editor -Editor Puka Puka Parade 520 Kamoku street Honolulu, Hawaii

Dear Editor,

133 Ku Drive Wailuku, Maui AUg! at 10, 1960

Better late than never--the subject matter is rather old news but still worthy of comment.

Hats off to Nartin Tohara of D ClBpterl At the Board meeting of May 12, his was the only dissenting vote on a motion to reimburse ex-prexy Dick Oguro for the expenses he incurred for a steak-dinner-nneeting to close out his tem.

Judging fran the seemingly high caliber of men we have serving on the Board, I dontt doubt that those who voted in the af.f:irma.tive did so with the full realization that they were setting a bad . precedent. I guess it is hwnan nature to want to be a liP od Joe, rut the irony of their action was so conspicuous in that only minutes prior the Board had unanimously agreed to accept the finance committee t s recommeniation to solicit the kokua at each arrl every member to contribute $3.00 or more to help finance our budget for the reminder 0:£ the year.

Yours f or better business practices,
