UV Curable Inks are carefully formulated without the use of raw materialsflagged as potential migrants (typically with low molecular weight). UV curable fluids cross-link rapidly, which limits the time that the substrate is in contact with uncured ink and stops the fluids from further penetrating the surface.

LOK INKS– COLLINS PATENTED C–LOK INKS ARE A HYBRIDFORMULATION OF FREE RADICAL AND CATIONIC TECHNOLOGYTHAT ADHERES TO METALS, GLASS, CERAMICS, AND MORE.

LED Curable Inks are formulated similarly to UV curable inks, but withcarefully selected raw materials to provide optimized LED curing.

NEW EB Inks are formulated similarly to UV and LED cure inks, but without the use of photoinitiators. Rather, electron beam irradiation cures the ink completely, creating an odorless, high quality image.

Water–based inks are considered “safe” fluids because they arecomprised mostly of water and colorant. Recent advances in available raw materials have enabled water-based inks to do more today than they could just 3 years ago, but the substrate limitations still exist when compared to the energy curable inks.

Low Migration Inks

Achieving regulatory compliance is a long process and Collins will work with you to provide an ink solution that meets your desired compliance, i.e. FDA approval, EU Commission, Cal Prop 6, REACH, etc. Ultimately, responsibility of ensuring that the final packaging meets the regulatory requirements for its intended use falls on the manufacturer or supplier of the final product; this includes conducting migration (extractable) testing for indirect food contact packaging.

The term “Low Migration” defines the selection of packaging materials plus the ink. Regardless of how an ink is formulated, it alone cannot be considered “low migration” until it is applied to a specific substrate. This is why Collins works thoroughly to understand the complete printing process prior to suggesting an ink. C
