Q Tell us a little about Review’s history. A Review has been in the Australian market place for 28 years. The original design concept of making vintage inspired feminine fashion is still at the heart of the brand.

Q What is the direction for the brand this Spring?A Still very focused on vintage, femininefashion. The ’60s have influenced us heavilythis season but we still can’t ignore howfabulous the ’50s makes us feel. We haveembraced the return of ladylike dressing;longer line pencils skirts, peplum tops, embellished knits, lace, brocades and fullskirts in beautiful floral prints.

Q What key trends have you incorporated into the collection? A Whether through bold pops of colour and statement prints or through retro shift dress silhouettes in soft pastel brocades, there is an underlying ’60s retro feel for the season. As we head towards the party season we have also been inspired by the ’20s deco and jazz era and have some great beaded flapper-inspired dresses in the range.

Q What are your favourite pieces in the collection? A I love anything with sparkle! So it has to be one of the beaded flapper dresses.

Add a pop of colour to your wardrobe with Review’s Spring ’12 collection, available at Myer.

Lisa Tyler – Head of Design at Review

11

INSPIRE catches up with Lisa Tyler, Head of Design for the fabulously feminine fashion brand Review, who shares what’s hot for Spring.

Q Where do you gain inspiration for the brand’s collections? A I start each season with a trip overseasto Europe and the States where I spenddays rummaging through vintage shopsand markets for key pieces to build thecollections on.

Q What keeps Review fresh and modern? A Review has its own unique style andisn’t beholden to trend; our collections always remain true to the heritage of the brand. Despite being inspired heavily by vintage eras, the colour palettes we use ensure that we look fresh and current.

Q How would you describe your personal fashion style? A I wear leopard print like people wear black! Add some sparkle and bold chunky heels to the equation and that’s pretty much me!

Q What are your favourite things about Spring? A I love all the colours that Spring brings!

Q Do you have an ultimate holidaydestination? A Thailand. I love the contrast of the idyllic islands and beaches against the hustle andbustle of Bangkok and bartering in the markets for something amazing to take home.

Q What can we expect from Review in thenext few months? A We’re excited that for the Spring racing season we are launching a range of limited edition dresses, so be sure to get in quick!

BEHIND THESCENESThe INSPIRE creative team went on location to create the fashion pages of this Spring issue.

ABOUT OUR PHOTOGRAPHER STEVEN CHEE

It took a truly co-ordinated effort to create our special INSPIRE fashion feature. The best weather, a retro inspired location, a mustang convertible plus the latest fashions. Add one of Australia’s best photographers, our crew of 14 including stylist, hair and makeup artists, the various assistants, and yes, our gorgeous model herself. The result may look glamorous, but it sure was hard work.

Famous faces, glamorous locations, exciting briefs: Steven Chee is the face behind the lens that captures some of Australia’s hottest fashion photography, from the pages of Vogue to global advertising campaigns. We are all proud of the amazing shots he created for this edition. Turn to page 22 for our hero fashion feature.

She's brightened our mornings and isthe face of the bigger and better BigBrother, but Sonia Kruger is mostcomfortable relaxing with family and

friends and dreams of lying poolsidesomewhere sunny. Here she tells INSPIREthat life isn’t always a party – but it's morefun to dance through it.

Q You’ve had a big year with so many successes. What has been your 2012 highlight so far?A This is one of the best years I’ve had. I’m so excited about Big Brother and the network is right behind it. I just have a really good feeling about it. When Big Brother was last on air there was no Twitter – so much has changed!

Q How is Big Brother going? A It’s been pretty busy and I’m very much enjoying it. The whole idea is that the show will be fun, but it won't be like the old Big Brother. The stereotypes have moved on and it’s about inspiring, intelligent, witty people that Australia will hopefully fall in love with.

Q How have you found your time on the Mornings show?A I feel like Mornings is a brand new show with David and I, and we have been able to let it grow organically and now I can really see what it is becoming. It’s a bit shambolic, it’s not the slickest of shows, but it’s fun. Neither of us can take anything too seriously so that's what comes across on the show, and I love that.

Q Are you really a morning person?A Some mornings are harder than others, but we have the best hours in morning television. We are up at 6am and doing normal office hours so there is nothing for us to complain about.

Q Who has been your favourite interview and why?A We’ve had a few really good ones actually.Lenny Henry was lots of fun and MiriamMargolyes from Harry Potter is hilarious andalways entertaining. And Michael Crawford, he is such a gorgeous man.

Q What is David's worst/funniest habit?A Oh, David cracks me up! He is a real chatterbox and will chat to me through the commercial breaks, through the packages, through the advertorials, which is great. He is Harry Have A Chat and I wouldn’t have it any other way. If he were quiet I would be seriously concerned that there was something wrong.

He also has a tendency to break into song during the commercial break. It's hard to keep a straight face.

Q Is the support of family and friends an important part of your busy life?A Absolutely. A lot of my family is in Queensland so a good thing about Big Brother is I get to see them every weekend for three months, which is awesome. I have a couple of girlfriends I love to catch up with and, lucky for me, they are stay at home mothers, so if I finish work at midday I can go and catch up in the afternoon.

Q Where is your next dream holiday?A I really, really, really want one! I keep thinking of Bali and Thailand and Fiji and I just want to go and lie by a pool – but don’t we all? My next holiday will be at Christmas.

Q What country have you always wanted to visit and why?A I’ve been to Madrid but I would love to go back and see more of Spain, to explore Barcelona, Ibiza – the whole idea of the food, the wine, the sunshine, the beaches. It's pretty amazing and I hear it's going cheap!

Q How do you stay fit and lead a healthy and well balanced lifestyle?A I do classes at the Sydney DanceCompany on the weekends – jazz, zumba, hip-hop. That’s fun. I go witha few girlfriends and we catch upand it's social. I'm not really a gymperson, I get really bored. I alsohave a dog I walk every day. She willjust annoy me if I don’t, so that’s anice way to stay fit.

Q How would you describe your own personal fashion style?A Probably age inappropriate! I love a lot of the really funky fashion that's around at the moment. I've been spending an awful lot of time in Sass and Bide. I love the fact you can buy a piece you canlayer up. I suppose my fashion style is a bit schizophrenic because at home I am so casual. But I also love the glamour of

television and dressing up. I love being able to wear amazing dresses, and I'm enjoying Big Brother from a fashion perspective too.

Q What is your favourite piece in your wardrobe right now?A A staple for me is a good pair of skinny jeans that you can team with a great top and jacket.

Q What is your favourite thing about Spring and the change of season?A I'm not a Winter person at all, I hate the cold. I am a Queenslander originally; we don’t do well with the cold. Spring is likea time of rejuvenation. All the flowers startcoming back, the days start getting longerand you know Summer is coming. And lazySummer days means holidays!

Q How would you describe your relationship with partner, Craig? Is marriage or children on the cards for you this year?A It's great and were pretty happy with the way things are at the moment.

Q Is there a mantra you live by?A Yes, it is ‘Life isn’t always a party, so you may as well dance while you’re there’. When you’re having a really crappy day, you can make it better, so enjoy it. You’re going to

have some highs and lows so you might as well make the most of it!

Q So what’s next? Do you have any exciting projects

coming up we should look out for?

A I am here at the networkfor the next couple of

years but at some point I would love to be based in the States. I am luckyenough to havebeen involvedin a couple ofshows that haveinternationalcurrency. It’sprobably more ofa retirement plan,to be honest withyou, down thetrack; eventuallyI can see myselfthere at some point in the future.

I might take some kind of sabbatical from

Australian television and hang around in the States for a while because I think there is always something to learn.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT SHADE FOR YOUDETERMINE YOUR SKIN TONE Skin tones fall into three categories: cool, warm and neutral. To identify your skin tone, hold a piece of white paper up to your face in front of a mirror in natural light. If your face looks yellow, your skin tone is warm. If it appears blue, you have a cool skin tone. And if it’s in between, it’s neutral. Another indicator involves your jewellery! Silver works for cool skin, while gold suits warm and neutral skin tones.

MATCH POINT Most make up experts agree you should select foundation by testing it along your jawline – the right shade will blend into your skin. Choose three colours from the same foundation range that are closest to your skin tone, then apply each one to your jawline for the perfect match. If the foundation is too dark it will look orange; if it’s too light it will appear ashy. If in doubt, yellow toned foundations look the most natural on all skin tones.

BLUSH PERFECTIONGet the right shade of blush and you can take years off your appearance. Gold, bronze, mocha, peach and apricot are all perfect for enhancing warm skin tones. And if you’re after

cool tone blush colours, reach for raspberries, plums, ruby reds and soft, pastel pinks. Always try the blush on before buying it – don’t just look at the colour on the packet.

LIP SERVICE The right lipstick colour will brighten the appearance of your skin. When you’re shopping for the ultimate lipstick shade, remember this: cool skin tones need pink based colours and warm skin tones suit shades that are yellow based. Don’t think you can wear red? Think again. Warm skin tones suit rich, apple inspired reds, while cooler skin tones work well with richer, deeper reds like burgundy. And those lucky neutral skin tones can pick and choose, as most shades will suit them.

STANDOUT EYESFor look-at-me eyes, get to know what eye shadow colours work for your skin tone. If you have cool skin, reach for plum, pink, rose and mauve shades. Warm skin tones work well with coral, chocolate and red based hues. And those lucky enough with a neutral skin tone can wear almost any colour! Head to the make up counter for more colour combinations.

During the warmer months, air-conditioning, chlorine and exposure to the sun leaves skin dry, flaky and dull, and fine lines become more visible. These next-gen products have multi-action qualities, whether it’s a hydrating moisturiser that fights sun damage or a soothing toner to restore the skin’s pH balance.

If you’re cool-toned, look for blue based colours like plum and royal blue. Warm skin tones should stick to yellow based shades – think burnt orange and apricot. And if you’re neutral, you can wear almost any shade!

Spring is the time for fresh starts and a confident, new look, so consider updating your hairstyle with our selection of

Spring’s hottest tress trends.

SIDE PARTSNeed a quick update? Simply change the way you part your hair. Start with towel-dried hair and use a comb to experiment with sides and angles, from deep side-parts to a dramatic middle part. Once you’re happy, spritz with volumiser spray and blow-dry.

SLICKED BACKTo achieve this sleek and glamorous look - apply styling product liberally around the face, then blow dry with a flat brush to make your hair straight and smooth. Apply hairspray at the roots to create shine.

PONYTAIL The ponytail is versatile and oh-so easy. For a look straight from the runway, blow-dry poker straight, tie at the nape of the neck, then run a comb over the top of your head for volume.

GLAMOROUS BLOWOUTSPut down that straightening iron and embrace your hair’s natural volume. To create the look, apply volumising mousse to towel dried hair, then blow dry with a round brush for big, soft waves. Finish with an anti-frizz serum.
