Message from the Chairman
¡BIENVENIDOS!
WELCOME TO THE INAUGURAL PENNSYLVANIA LATINO CONVENTION! On behalf of the Executive Committee and Ambassadors of the Pennsylvania Latino Convention, I would like to offer our warmest welcome to this historic event and to the City of Lancaster. In the early 1990s, Lillian Escobar-Haskins was the Executive Director of the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs. During her tenure at Governor Casey’s Office, she assembled a group of community advocates and leaders to establish the first-ever statewide Latino conference in Pennsylvania’s history. This conference was later moved from the Governor’s Office and became the Pennsylvania Statewide Latino Conference (PSLC). PSLC was the most important annual meeting for members of the community to advance the living conditions of Latinos in Pennsylvania. For me, it was my first positive and long-lasting impression of the dedicated, outstanding Latino leadership arduously advocating to include Latino issues at the highest level of government and corporate circles. It was also where I found the greatest inspiration for selfless service and unwavering commitment. Following the footsteps of trailblazers of our community, we are establishing the Pennsylvania Latino Convention (PALC) – to serve as the most comprehensive event covering all aspects of Latino life in the commonwealth. We can truly say that we stand on the shoulders of giants who lend their strength for younger generations to stand and see in the horizon the opportunities and realities Latinos face every day in the United States of America. PALC is committed to the establishment of a roadmap to improve the social, educational, political and economic conditions of Latinos in Pennsylvania recognizing that our emerging communities are reaching a historic 1 million! We are members of Pennsylvania’s cultural fabric and our devotion to the sciences, the arts, education, business and entrepreneurship, faith, medicine, technology, engineering, law, government, politics, labor and industry, research, the environment is an important element to Pennsylvania’s promising future. 1 MILLION STRONG: ONE MILLION VOICES, ONE COMMUNITY is our call for unity, inclusion and empowerment. If progress was made when 40 years ago the first Latino graduated from Temple Law School or 30 years ago when the first Latino was elected to the PA General Assembly, imagine how much we can accomplish today when we are at the edge of reaching 1 million Latinos in Pennsylvania! Our time is now! Let’s build together a community that is a model in our state and inspiration to the nation. We can be light in the darkness, progress in the struggles, the dream of our country, and hope to our world. Best days are still ahead of us!
One Million Strong,
Norman Bristol Colón Founder & Chairman

Pennsylvania Hispanic College Fair (PAHCF) The Pennsylvania Hispanic College Fair is an initiative by the executive committee of the
Pennsylvania Latino Convention to bring Latino/Hispanic high school students to the halls of the convention by participating in the fair. For PALC, this is an opportunity to partner with school
districts in combating drop-out rates and to increase college enrollment rates from ethnic minority students. PAHCF provides a convenient and informative opportunity for students and
