BrochureDescription: Design a folding brochure to advertise a company product, service, or location.

Programs: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop

Date: March 29, 2015

Course/Instructor: Comm 130-13Sister Peterson

Objectives:- Setup and design a folded document- Create a new logo- Must have 250 words- Use four quality images

Process:I first sketched out how my brochure was going to look. I then used Illustrator to design my log. I used the Ctrl key to angle the circle in a way where it looks like it was orbiting DC. I then used the pen tool to make my cape and the curvature tool to curve the bottom part of the cape. I also used the pen tool and curvature tool to create the gloves and the eye patch. I used Photoshop to select my image and cut them out where I could refine the edges. Finally, using InDesign, I used the ruler tool to create my folding points and text wrap to place my text. I placed my images into the design and switched to high-quality photos.

LogosDescription: Design three unique logos for a company

Programs: Adobe Illustrator

Date: February 21, 2015

Course/Instructor: Comm 130-13Sister Peterson

Objectives:- Use only Adobe Illustrator to design the logos- Create three different logo designs for a company- Gather at least 10 opinions regarding which logo appeals to them most

Process:I first had to come up with a company name and an emphasis on the service or product that I was going to advertise. I thought of chopsticks and instantly, I had the images in my head as to how my logos could look like. I then used Adobe Illustrator to start the designing process. I used the eclipse tool to make a few ovals, and then used rectangles to cover up half of the ovals to form what looks like a bowl. I also used the text tool to generate my text. To design chopsticks, I actually used the text tool and typed in some exclamation points. Doing so, I was able to develop my chopsticks. I had an outer view of the bowl, then I decided to create a design from the top view of a bowl and with the chopsticks actually grabbing a piece of food.

PhotodesignDescription: A company is looking to hire someone who can take photos and design them in Photoshop.

Programs: Adobe Photoshop

Date: February 8, 2015

Course/Instructor: Comm 130-13Sister Peterson

Objectives:- Learn basic photography skills- Choose a color scheme and take a photo that matches the color scheme.- Use layers to design text- Print with full bleed

Process:I decided on a monochromatic color scheme. It’s usually the safest and I felt like I had the perfect idea for it. I knew I wanted to do something with food and what better food to do it with than with ice cream? I used a Fuji film professional and digital camera to take my photos with. Once I had my photo, I used Photoshop to make edits to it. I sharpened it up, increased the whiteness levels, as well making it more vibrant in color. I then added different rectangular designs into it, using different variations of the color gold.

MontageDescription: To create a spiritual poster montage using images and type.

Programs: Adobe Photoshop

Date: February 14, 2015

Course/Instructor: Comm 130-13Sister Peterson

Objectives:- Use the FOCUS design process to create strong flow- Learn to blend two images together gradually, using masks- Apply typography principles- Select good spiritual and quality images

Process:I decided to do a montage on a person having two choices. It involved to choose the right. I looked on the internet to find a good image and a bad image so that a person can make a decision on what he/she wanted to do. I then imported the images into Photoshop where I used the lasso tool to draw around the parts of the image that I wanted. I then created masks and used the brush tool to blend the edges together.

Web PageDescription: Use HTML, CSS, and a logo, design a webpage for an employer

Programs: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Notepad ++ and Internet Explorer

Date: March 14, 2015

Course/Instructor: Comm 130-13Sister Peterson

Objectives:- Size and optimize an original logo with the longest side between 300-500 px- Write content regarding the process of creating the logo- Acquire a working knowledge of HTML- Identify hex colors to match logo

Process: I decided to use a logo appealed nicely to the audience and one that had a couple of colors. Once I had my logo, I used Adobe Illustrator to create my file. I then used Notepad ++ and html code to develop my webpage. After doing so, I grabbed the demo.css file that was provided and started to modify some selectors. I used Adobe Photoshop to grab hexadecimal numbers that related to the colors in my logo and incorporated them into the webpage. Once I had the design finished, I touched up the description portion with information regarding my message and the design of the website.

Event AdDescription: Design a color flier to promote an event for a company.

Programs: Microsoft Word

Date: January 31, 2015

Course/Instructor: Comm 130-13Sister Peterson

Objectives:- Find, scan, and import a high quality image- Create a full-bleed design- Choose a color scheme and typeface that will relate to the audience

Process:I first sketched out my designs and chose the one that would work best. I chose an image from a landscape book and then scanned it, and imported it to Word. I used Microsoft Word to then piece everything together. I used the drawing tools and the shapes that were provided by Microsoft Word to help display my sketch. I put my image in the background and used a hexagonal shape for snowflakes and I also used white lettering to keep it a chilling and cold design. I tried to have alignment by having some of the shapes and words setup diagonally and I also tried to keep the images and words away from the edges in case they were going to be trimmed.

Business CardDescription: Design a logo that could be used to create a business card and letterhead

Programs: Adobe InDesign

Date: February 28, 2015

Course/Instructor: Comm 130-13Sister Peterson

Objectives:- Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image- Apply typography rules- Insert a watermark and drop shadow- Include contact information

Process:I made up a company that would focus on providing web solutions. Once I had the company down, I designed a new logo for it using Adobe Illustrator. I used an octagon to design the web and inserted a star. Once I had the logo, I used it to create the business card and sorted the words so that they were visible enough. I used typography and a text box to insert text and allowed whitespace to create flow through the card.

LetterheadDescription: Design a logo that could be used to create a business card and letterhead

Programs: Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign

Date: February 28, 2015

Course/Instructor: Comm 130-13Sister Peterson

Objectives:- Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image- Apply typography rules- Insert a watermark and drop shadow- Include contact information

Process:I designed my letterhead by first sketching it out. Using my sketch, I inserted a line to distinguish the header. I inserted my logo to the top left side and then inserted my information on the right side. I then inserted a watermark of the image into the body of the letterhead. It’s visible, but just barely.

FlierDescription: Create a news flier using Adobe InDesign

Programs: Adobe InDesign

Date: January 24, 2015

Course/Instructor: Comm 130-13Sister Peterson

Objectives:- Apply design principles and use appropriate typography- Use images that were supplied- Create a project folder with an image, logo, and document intact

Process:I first drew four sketches on a piece of paper and decided to go with the one that had more of an alignment to it. I used that sketch as a reference to draw it out on Adobe InDesign. From there, I used similar rectangular boxes to output all of the text in. I then placed those boxes into the areas I wanted them in. I tried grouping everything together to help create flow. I didn’t want everything cluttered though and so I left some white space in-between. I also tried to stick out one word in the title, hoping to draw the interest of the people reading the flier. All of the images and words used on the flier were provided.
