• To recognise the different abilities ofPupils
– Provide more flexibility in subjectcombinations for Pupils with strengths andabilities that vary across subjects

• Your child has the choice to take acombination of standard and foundationsubjects, depending on his strengths

Your child may be recommended to take
Passes all 4 subjects and performs very well in MTL
• 4 standard subjects + Higher Mother Tongue Language
Passes all 4 subjects • 4 standard subjects
Passes 3 subjects • 4 standard subjects
Passes 2 subjects or less
• 4 standard subjects; or
• 3 standard subjects + 1 other foundation subject; or
• 2 standard subjects+ 2 other foundation subjects; or
• 1 standard subject + 3 other foundation subjects; or
• 4 foundation subjects
HMT should be offered by pupils who are verygood in their MT and are passionate about thesubject.
During PSLE posting exercise, the Higher Chinesegrades could be used as one of the tie-breakerconsiderations, Only for application to SAP schools.
Note regarding offering HMT
The school would offer 1H 4S if we have found thepupil suitable for this course
- 85 marks and above for CL,TL or ML
- must have scored well for MT Paper 1
- at least 80 marks for Eng, Maths and Science
Pupil offering 1H 4S must ensure that he/she isable to meet the demands of a rigorous curriculum
Pupil will HAVE TO take HMT at PSLE
Pupil will not be allowed to drop the subjecthalfway.

– Different expectations of standard and foundationsubjects will be taken into account when the PSLEscore is calculated
Offering weaker subjects at foundation level isnot a disadvantage.– Your child will be able to focus on building up strong
fundamentals in the weaker subjects

Subject-based Banding and Secondary School admission
Change from PSLE T-score to wider scoringbands aims to reduce overly-fine differentiationin examination scores and over-emphasis onacademic results.
It will also be more reflective of a pupil’s levelof achievement in relation to learningobjectives of the curriculum and is not basedon pupil’s performance relative to that ofhis/her peer.
The New PSLE Scoring System
Pupil’s raw mark for each subject is convertedinto a scoring band called an AchievementLevel (AL), with AL1 being the best score andAL8 being the lowest score.
The total of the ALs will be the PSLE SCORE
( Between 4 to 32)
