Hardware and Software Requirements
Minimum configuration
- Microsoft Windows 95,98 or NT
- Pentium >75MHz
- 16 MB RAM
- SVGA ( 800 x 600 pixels )
- 16 bit = 65536 colors,
- CD-ROM drive, minimum double speed
- Sound card
- Head phones
CBT Items
To study the CBT you have to receive the following items:1. A CD-ROM containing the Multimedia Computer Based Training.
2. A User Diskette to store the training progress.
3. This User Manual which provides you with additional information.
Note: The User Diskette must be returned to the instructor during
the Hands on Training at the training center.

Introduction
Welcome to CBT, the Computer Based Training program forSOMATOM systems. Produced by the Siemens Med Training Center,the program is designed as a pre-study tool for training and servicepurposes and as such prepares you for the SOMATOM Hands-ONcourses held at the Med Training Center. The program is divided intotwo sections:
The service section. This section provides you with quick access toall system components and functions.
The training section. Here you will find step-by-step explanations ofthese components and functions.
Please note that completion of the pre-study CBT is a prerequisite forattending subsequent SOMATOM courses.While you are running the training section of the program, the resultsare automatically stored on your User Diskette (provided that youinserted it upon starting the program).
For verification of completion, please provide your instructor at thetraining center with the User Diskette.

Installation
Licence keys and PasswordsThe CBT is protected by two licence keys and a password.Both, the keys and the password are published in the Siemens Medintranet. The URL is:
http:\\www-td.med.siemens.de
Please check the section:
Training Center/Licence Keys and Passwords
for the necessary information.
You will need the licence keys and password for the following ID's:
ID Name
3461 P10_SERVICE3462 P10_TRAINING
Note:The licence keys are valid for a limited time only, they must be
renewed for your system at 6 month intervals..
Licence Agent
When you are running the application for the first time, a licence agentwill be installed on your system. Please follow the installationinstructions, do not change any default settings.
After the installation of the agent, you have to enter the licence keys intothe agent. For a detailed description, click the Help'button of theapplication.

Creating a short cut
Right mouse click on your Windows screen.
Select New and the Shortcut.
Click the 'Browse Button, select the CD-ROM drive.
Select the Start.exe file, click on Next and finish the shortcut.
This icon should appear on your screen.
Small Font Display
Your Windows system should run with the Small Font graphic display.
Right mouse click on your Windows screen.
Select Properties to show the display properties.
Select the card Properties to set the Font Size to Small Fonts.
If you cannot locate the setup for the font size, click one of the pushbuttons, e.g. Advanced, etc...
Screen Size and Colors
The CBT is designed for a matrix size of 800 x 600 pixel and a minimumcolor depth of 65536 colors.
Right click on your Windows screen
Select Properties to show the display properties.
Select the card Properties to set the color palette to min. 65536colors and resolution to min 800 x 600 pixel.

CBT Structure
This overview shows the structure of the different sections of the CBT
as well as the push button symbols for navigation.The CBT is started with the file: Start.exe.
Login:Login file to get the user data, checks the licence and password.Data are stored on the User Diskette.Service Part: Quick access to the service information,e. g. block diagrams of the system, components or functions, includingcable lists, photos, test points, LED's, etc...
Tour 1 ... n: The block diagrams shown in the service section are
explained step-by-step, including audio and animation for furtherclarification.

Evaluation: This section evaluates the user data and the trainingprogress stored on the User Diskette. It gives you an overview of thetours you have completed, started or are still pending. Every tour youvecompleted is marked with a . To start one of the tours, click on the tourname to start the service section for viewing the block diagram of thetour. Then click the tour button to start the tour itself.
User Diskette:The training progress during your work with the CBT isstored on User Diskette as follows:
Your User Data entered during the login procedure are stored in theuser.txt. file
The actual tour number, the time youve spent on each tour and
whether or not you have completed the tour are stored to theuserrecord.txt. file.
The advantages of working with a User Diskette are :
You can exit from the CBT at any given point without data loss. Thecurrent tour number is saved in your userrecord.txt file
You can work with the User Diskette and the CD-ROM at any otherPC. .
Exit the CBT only via the 'Exit' push button of the service section,
otherwise the training progress is not properly stored to thediskette.
Push Buttons:A detailed description of the different buttons isavailable in the service section of the CBT. If you are in the servicesection, right click and select the i button to get the informationbuttons displayed. Select the Push Button information.

QuickStart of the CBT
Login procedure
To start the CBT you need your 'User Diskette' andthe CD-ROM.
Insert your User Diskette into your floppy drive.
Double-click the icon Start.exe.
Select Go CBT withUser Diskette
Enter the Password and your User Data. Please type Return aftereach input!
Click on Yes, if your User Data are ok. This will start the service sectionof your CBT.

Tour Done
A tour consists of one or more pages. At the end of each page you willget the message:
Click on Next Page to continue ...
to mark the end of a page. Select the 'Next Page' button to start the nextpage.
At the end of the last page you will get the message:
Click on Next Tour to continue ...
to mark the end of a tour. Select the 'Next Tour' button to start the nexttour
Additionally, the tour done symbol '' will appear in the navigation bar.Note:You will get this symbol only if the 'Click on Next...' message isdisplayed on every page!
Next Tour
The CBT consists of several tours. Each tour explains one of the
components or functions of the SOMATOM. The sequence in which thetours are given was established by the instructors of the training center.
By selecting the Next Tour button, the SOMATOM system will beexplained to you in a logical sequence. This approach also ensures thatyou do not miss one of the tours.
Leaving the tour
Return to the service section of the tour. Your training progress is storedon the User Diskette.
Leaving the service section
Clicking on the right mouse button will display the Small Button window.Select Exit to end the service section.

CBT Evaluation
Overview
Each CBT comes with a CBT evaluation program that allows you tocheck your training progress.
This program shows your user data, the tours and the time you havespent in the CBT.
