Flight Observation Probable Cause Actions Taken

Wing sheared off during flight

Purchased ply cut on RIT laser cutter is 3 layer, compared to 5 layer ply cut by Foxlite, Inc.

Absorption and cure times increase for plywood applications

Change ply adhesive to Gorilla Glue

Redesign wing to accommodate double brace thickness and top sheeting

Cyanoacrylate (CA) adhesive was more effective in balsa joints than ply joints

Epoxy found to not completely cure

Enables onboard control switching between two pilots or a single pilot and an autonomous system

Uses:- Autonomous system testing with pilot backup- Control ‘hand off’ between pilots a significant distance apart

for extended range flights

~$50 total per system.
