Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” [Matthew 16:24]

Jesus tells us that there is a certain se-cret, a hidden wisdom, which, should we grasp it, is the key to unraveling all the deep secrets of life. But if we miss it, we will never really un-derstand life. However, for Jesus that secret is not some exotic or hidden code, known only to a few intellectual elites or super holy mystics. For Jesus, the hidden secret that holds the key to everything is the cross: the wisdom of the cross and creative suffering of who died on the cross. If we can grasp that reality, we will have the key to understanding the rest of life; if we do not grasp that wisdom, life will remain empty.

Six months past Lent, now the Church in her wisdom returns to the theme of the cross as the key to discipleship and stewardship. The cross of Christ is not very well understood. But it is felt deeply, in the marrow of our bones and in the depths of our hearts as the deepest of all secrets. Let us join him in the Eucharistic sacri-fice as we “offer our bodies as a living sacrifice to God our spiritual worship” (Rms 12:1) as we learn again to serve God and neighbor with Je-sus.

Questions for the week: When has God tak-en you to “the other side,” beyond your zone of comfort? Where is the cross a daily reality for you that you choose to carry with Jesus?

Domingo Veintidós en el Tiempo Ordinario

Queridos Feligreses y Amigos:

will meet this Tuesday evening, September 5, at 7:15

in the Parish Hall for all those who are interested in

learning about the Catholic Faith. This Inquiry phase

cess that make a person Catholic. For more infor-

mation, contact Fr. Bob Cushing at 478-284-5235 or

[email protected] or call the office.

The Bishop Gartland Award: Next weekend we will vote for a person whom we think should receive the Bishop Gartland Service Award. Like Mother Teresa, Bishop Gartland sacrificed himself for the people of the Diocese of Savannah and died dur-ing the yellow fever epidemic in 1854, the first Bishop of the diocese. Who has given themselves generously to the service of the parish? Please give some thought and prayer to this and vote next weekend. Former recipients of the Gartland Award: Michael Johnson and Gus & Barbara Karle (2000), Maryann Dixon and Ann Johnson (2001), Linda Booker (2002), James E Boyett and Johanna T Boyett (2003), Michael Frawley and Ruth Sinconis (2004), Pat & Lillie Morris (2006), Joe & Nina Palmer (2008), and Carlene Murray (2009), Juanita Sosa and Joe Woodruff (2013), Margaret Milkas and Ana Velez (2015), Lee Tipps and Dr. Victor Aranda(2106).

son (2001), Linda Booker (2002), James E Boyett y Johanna T Boyett (2003), Michael Frawley y Ruth Sin-conis (2004), Pat & Lillie Morris (2006), Joe & Nina Palmer (2008), y Carlene Murray (2009), Juanita Sosa

y Joe Woodruff (2013), Margaret Milkas y Ana Velez (2015), Lee Tipps y Dr. Victor Aranda(2106).
