Because of intervening clouds and to lose time, the group flew north of course. The wing was forming satisfactory and the 40lst ie• partei the English Coast one minute early on course.

The group wa.s in i te proper place in the Division, and in or er to maintain it and esoape patches of weather the oourae to the IP was tlOWD a bit off course. lleager, inaccurate flak was obaerved enroute just nor~ of Auterdam, but noaa waa encountered to the IP. Just before the IP a wide •dogleg" was made to avoid weather oont~ils, and possible collision with other conTerging wings. And again-the IP the turn wa1 broadened to a'ft.de another wing, but the bo'mb run was atartei olo1e to the briefed IP and on the briefed heading.

The area leading up to the IP a1 well as the IP proper wa1 ooTered. by solid layer• of clouds and contrails, but we were able to c e ia on a good heading for the target through Ule of the JaCKET. The IIICIET oonducted the bomb run starting about 40 mile• from the target gi 'ring oourae rate corrections that were incorporated into the bomb1ight. Ab~t a ainute tram bombs away the oloud1 became broken and one or two ., .. references could be diatingui1hea. Making use of the meager vi1ability a slight course correction was made and a level wa1 taken. U1ing tbe1e visual correction• to the PFF run bombs were salvoed. Contrails, IJiloke and clouds plus the flak bursts made an accurate eye wi tneu •trike re• port impo1sible. Results unob1er?ed.

There was about a 1/10 underoaat at IP and no check pointa could be picked up. This condition held true up to about 5 llliles trcm Target area. Our baaab run was atarted with PFF and continued ao onr half' way to tariet. Finally there was a break in the clouds and the bombardier picked up several cheok points on the edge of' the target area. His courae correction• led him to believe the PrF was otf' aeveral 4egreea em heading. Arter course was fairly well killed the target was covered b -~ w.por traila f'rca another box or aquaclron. When the vapor trails thinned out so the bcab• ardier could aee he had about one minute lett before bombs away. All this time it had been a pl"F with only viaual corrections.
