The Servant King
"They put a purple robe on him, thentwisted together a crown of thornsand set it on him. And they began tocall out to him"Hail, King of theJews!"Matt 15v17-18
This year, our Queen celebrates her90th birthday and, during her longreign, she has become cherished bypeople all over the world, has set anexample with her Christian faith, andhas served our nation well.
In honour of the Queen's birthday, the Christian organisation HopeTogether, has produced a bookentitled "The Servant Queen and theKing she serves", which explores theQueen's Christian faith, and how shehas expressed that faith during herreign (copies of this book will beavailable free from the Hill & ValleyParishes soon - watch out for furtherdetails!)
Of course, the Easter season focuseson this King that our Queen serves -Jesus Christ - and the defining eventsof his life - his passion, his sufferingand his death for the sins of theworld.
Before he was crucified, the Romansoldiers gave Jesus a purple robe anda crown of thorns and, mocking him, they hailed him the "King of the
Jews", as a reminder that he had beenfalsely accused as an enemy of theRoman state.
In his suffering and agony on thecross, Jesus looked nothing much likeany ruler of our world. Yet, by hisdeath and resurrection, Jesus showedthat he had ultimate power over sinand death, and had won the victoryover these two deadly enemies ofhumanity. Because of this, Jesus is thetrue King of the universe, sovereignover all creation - and he rightlydeserves our worship and ourallegiance.
By his death and resurrection, Jesuswas the servant of the whole world. He calls us to acknowledge him asLord and saviour and, in turn, toserve one another in our communitiesand the places where we live andwork. So let us follow the example ofour Head of State, and let us too trustand follow Jesus, the Servant King, inour lives with humility, perseverance -and joy! May Iwish you all ahappy, peacefuland blessedEaster.
With bestwishes,

Bishop Rachel
What a privilege it was to welcomeBishop Rachel to our school a fewweeks ago. She spent over an hour withus, visiting each class and answeringsome very well thought throughquestions that the children hadprepared. See below! She is a kind, warmhearted and dynamic person andcommunicated with us all in a very non-threatening manner, making everyonefeel completely at ease.
Class 1 - What are your favouritepets? (!!) The children also asked BishopRachel to join in with their Maths game('Guess the name of the shape behindthe curtain'!) which she did with greatenthusiasm!
Class 2 - Is your special hat veryheavy? 'No it isn't very heavy but I do feel abit funny wearing it because it's so tall! BishopRachel spent some time talking with thechildren about the different photographsthey had been looking at before shecame into the classroom and explainedall about the special consecration serviceand how she felt during it.
Class 3 - What does it feel like to beone of the first female Bishops? That'san interesting question because that's a bit likeme asking 'What does it feel like to be you?' Ihaven't really known anything different butwhat I do know is that I'm doing somethingthat God wants me to do and that is a fantasticfeeling!
Class 4 - Have you always wanted tobe a Bishop? No, I haven't! This time lastyear, I had no idea that I was going to be aBishop! You may know what you want to bewhen you're older and you may find that thingschange. For me I felt like God called me to be aBishop. I believe that God created us all to beunique so that wecan offer somethingunique to theworld. I hope youwill find somethingthat you feel is theright thing for you.
ISingPop
Stomach bugs and colds might havebeen doing the rounds but iSingPopfever definitely took hold as weprepared for two fantastic concerts on4th February which I know many of youwill have enjoyed! We sang our littlehearts out - it was an absolute joy to seethe children engage with suchenthusiasm during the sessions as theyrecorded our very own CD and as theyprepared for the concerts along with ourhonorary Class 5 - The Chedworth

St Andrew’s C of E Primary SchoolSingers! The words of the songs areextremely meaningful and complimentthe Christian values are very much at theheart of our school.
Our School Hall transformed into aRecording Studio as we cut our firstalbum! What fun!
Do you have a particular interest thatyou would like to share with thechildren?
Would you be interested in running aclub after school as a way of enhancingthe children's education?
We are always on the look-out to findnew ways of enriching the experiencesthat the children at St Andrew's have. Atpresent we are offering a running club, sports club, choir, reading for pleasureand chess club as well as ballroomdancing and gymnastics. If you have anhour a week that you would like to useto introduce the children to an interestof yours - maybe art or gardening /cooking, we would be delighted to hearfrom you!
Games for Wet Play
We are looking to build up ourcollection of games for our 'Wet Play'boxes so if you have any games at homethat are no longer played with, we would
be very grateful for them to ensure thatour children have fun even when theweather isn't so cheery! Many thanks.
Rugby
A fantastic day was had by all atKingsholm on Saturday as Year 4, 5 & 6went to cheer Gloucester on againstLeicester Tigers. Our day included astadium tour, a Q & A session with twoplayers and, once we were all issued withour own Gloucester Rugby flags, wejogged around the pitch as thespectators in the Shed (who, we weretold are known as 'Shed-Eds'!) chanted'Terry! Terry!' (Terry Fanaloa - playedfor Glos for ten years as well as Samoa;a real legend) and he was actually wasrunning alongside us! We all thoroughlyenjoyed the action of the game itselfand, although Leister Tigers justclinched the victory in the last fewminutes, we all came away buzzing! What an experience! Photos
As you can see, it has been a very fullterm, packed with new experiences thatdeepen our understanding and foster alove of learning. We are certainly in atime of transition as a school and as theGovernors look to appoint a substantiveHead towards the end of the month, Iremain wholeheartedly committed toworking with each stakeholder inmoving the school forward as we embedgood practice, celebrate the children andcreate new opportunities to seekexcellence.Angharad Fitch

Your Gardening Tips
YOUR GARDENINGTIPSFOR MARCH 2016
Let’s hope that the spring bringssome sunny dryweather so that we can get onwith those gardeningtasks that will bring forth ahealthy crop of flowersand vegetables later in the year.
● Plant shallots, onions and ear-ly potatoes, if the ground isnot too soggy
● Start brassicas and lettuces offin doors
● Plant summer flowering bulbs● Protect new spring shoots
from slugs● Tackle the early emergence of
weeds, especially beforemulching.
● Lift and divide overgrownlumps of perennials.
● If not already done, cut sum-mer and autumn floweringclematis back to lowest pair ofstrong buds above groundlevel.
● Sow sweet peas outside● Feed roses as they come into
growth. This the best monthfor planting roses in heavysoils or cold areas.
● Feed shrubs, hedges and espe-cially newly planted trees witha balanced fertiliser such asGrowmore or Blood Fish &Bone.
● Late March is the time to ap-ply a high nitrogen fertilizer toyour lawn, after raking out thedead grass and moss.

WI Report for February
Our February meeting was an openmeeting (open to non members),this proved popular and 40 peopleenjoyed an interesting talk withbeautiful wildlife photographsfrom local Gamekeeper, AdamTatlow from Guiting Power.
His photographs are excellent andhis talent has been discovered byThe National Press, he told us thatin an interview with a Daily MailJournalist he mentioned that hisskills as a gamekeeper and wildlifephotographer included ‘calling thedeer’ with a certain sound, and tohis dismay the headline was‘Gamekeeper turns photographer, amazing pictures by Dr Doolittle’,the Telegraph also took up theheadline, since the story his workcolleagues have given himrelentless teasing.
We loved the photography andwere shown fox cubs, roe deerfawns, sheep dog puppies and hisbest selling photographs of hares, one of note is Hares in Snow. Allcan be found on his detailedwebsite, and his cards are on sale inthe Chedworth Farm shop.
Adam`s prime photo is named`Roe Deer Fawn in Corn and itwas chosen for one of the photosin the Countryfile Calendar for2010, a remarkable talent and anenjoyable evening.

Active Together by Cotswold
‘Active Together’
By Cotswold Friends
A recent research study and report onloneliness and isolation in the CotswoldDistrict (that we contributed to) foundthat some areas of high need have littleor no access to social groups. Whilst weoffer many community transport, community events and social groups inthe Cotswold area, that aresupplemented by our befriendingscheme and carer respite services in theCotswolds and parts of WestOxfordshire, it would benefit existingand new clients to be able to offer morephysically active social events such as:
Bowls Golf
Fitness Yoga
Walking
We refer to this programme as ActiveFriends.
Our overall aim of this project isto:
• Support and act upon thefindings of research that clearlyshows a need for such socialclubs and events to helpalleviate the pressure on GP’sand nurses in the county
• To support those in thecommunity with mental healthissues and dementia relatedillnesses
• To offer more social eventsand clubs that will attractvulnerable, isolated and lonelyolder men in the community
The community benefits of thisprogramme would include:
• Reduction of health issues inolder residents eg: weightcontrol, mobility, mentalstimulation.
• Reduction in the number ofGP visits
• Offer dementia friendlyactivities
• Creates further carer respitetime allocation
• Helps in our mission ofovercoming loneliness andisolation
• Further supports well-beingand independent living

Wet Wet Wet
So far the winter has been very wetBut we could get some snow showers yet
Snowdrops now getting past their bestA lovely show we have been blessed
Daffodils are coming up before their timeSo our wet weather has suited them fineNew buds on the trees are shooting fastHope no strong frosts before winter past
A bit depressing these dull dark daysNot much sun our spirits to raise
Still we think of others no food and no homeOutside in a tent nowhere to roam
Our blessings are many in more ways than oneGod sends us his blessings as we wait for the sun
