    Brochure

Description ~Design a brochure with acustom logo, full bleed image, and one fold

Programs Used ~ Adobe InDesign,Illustrator, and PhotoshopDate Posted ~ December 8, 2013Course # & Section ~ Comm 130 Section 3Instructor Name ~ Julie PetersonObjectives ~ Set up , align, and print a two-sided, full bleed , folded document. Create anoriginal company logo and use it in a brochure.Incorporate 4 quality images with one clippedand text-wrapped. Write 250 words of original

copy with 3 paragraphs.Process ~ I started out with the front page. Iwanted to use my shutter logo with my businesslogo inside of that on the inside page, with acutout on the front. Then I started with my text.I was really struggling with where to place it. Ichanged the typography and alignment manytimes before I got to something that looked good. Then, I uploaded the images. At rst, I wasnt surewhat to do for the background, but I really likeimages as backgrounds, so I found an image thatwas a little more subtle. I set up my margins andthen printed the project.

    Web Page

Description ~Using HTML and CSS coding, create a webpage to describe and showcase mycompany logo

Programs Used ~ Adobe Photoshop andText Wrangler

Date Posted ~ November 21, 2013Course # & Section ~ Comm 130 Section 3Instructor Name ~ Julie PetersonObjectives ~ Create 3 logos for a companyusing only Illustrator. Dont imitate exsistinglogos. Arrange on an 8.5x11 page and getfeedback from people to see which logo they like

the most.Process ~ Well, Illustrator was a very hardprogram for me to use. I felt like I didnt know thetools well enough to be creative with anything. It was denitely a stretch for me. The rst logoI created was actually the one in the middle. Iwanted it to be really simple but I also wanted toincorporate a cool design for one of the letters. So, I used the shape tool and created pentagons, layered and colored them. I also separated mytext so I was able to manipulate the specic

letters. The top one I really wanted to make looklike a camera with a shutter. I used the shape andthe pathnder tools to create the shape in themiddle of the p. The last logo I really wanted tojust be the text with nothing fancy. So, I used adecorative font in the green and blue colors withthe shutter logo off to the side.

Description ~Create 3 logos to represent anew company/business using Adobe Illustrator

Programs Used ~ Adobe IllustratorDate Posted ~ November 1, 2013Course # & Section ~ Comm 130 Section 3Instructor Name ~ Julie PetersonObjectives ~ Size and optimize an originallogo as a .png for a web page. Write 200 wordsdescribing your logo. Design a web page basedon the logo using HTML and CSS. Identify Hex

    colors for web design.

Process ~ This project was very technical,

but it actually wasnt too hard for me. I used textwrangler to write html and css codes. I startedwith the html I made from the last activity and Istarted with the css from I-learn. I changed thefonts and colors to match my logo and I changedthe padding on most of the separate parts oftext. I also wrote all of the text about my logo andwhy I created it. Total word count is 283 includingthe intro. I also added a link to my photographyFacebook page in the html. One other thing that Idid was change the art board on my logo to createthe right space around it on the web page.

Description ~Use an original logo to createa business card and letterhead as a stationery setfor a company

Programs Used ~ Adobe Illustrator, andInDesign. Cannon T3i DSLR camera

Date Posted ~ November 8, 2013Course # & Section ~ Comm 130 Section 3Instructor Name ~ Julie PetersonObjectives ~ Create a new logo to place ina business card and letterhead stationery set.Letterhead is 8.5x11 and Business card is 3.5x2.Keep things simple by using light watermarks

and white space.Process ~ I started with creating my additionallogo and really wanted it to be the shutter of acamera. Then I started with the business card. Ireally wanted to stick with the idea of simplicityand clean lines. So, I simply placed the logo andcontact information. I thought about putting astraight line on the side, but it just didnt seemto go. I didnt want to overwhelm the card, especially since my logo is such a focal point. As aphotographer, I really wanted to place an image

on my card, so I placed an image Ive taken onthe back. I then created my letterhead. I wantedto keep it simple so just put the shutter image asa watermark with my logo at the top and contactinfo. at the bottom.

Programs Used ~ Adobe Photoshop, andCannon T3i DSLR camera

Date Posted ~ October 24, 2013Course # & Section ~ Comm 130 Section 3Instructor Name ~ Julie PetersonObjectives ~ Learn to manage and blendPhotoshop layers with the masking tool. Uselters, appropriate typography, and quality

images. Make the image unifying and consistent.

Process ~ I decided to use my own images,so I opened them in Photoshop and editedthe background photo using the noise lter. Ireduced the noise around her because it wasreally grainy at rst. Then I added the 2 extraphotos and created masks on both of them. Iwanted to write i hope they call me on a mission.I made 2 different text boxes and placed them ontop of each other to give it more visual interest.I also made it so the main subject was lookingtowards the typography, so ow would be good.

for layout in Word. Insert/edit images in Word.

Process ~ The rst thing I did was scan myoriginal photo. I decided I wanted the whole

thing to be the background. I didnt want to cropit, or size it down. I placed my image in Word andthen started creating rectangles. I changed thetransparency of the boxes so that the photo wouldstill show. I then placed text boxes of the sametransparency over the gray rectangles. I chosecontrasting fonts and sizes. I also made use of thetracking tool to create visual interest in my text.

Description ~Black and White ier topromote a graduate leadership conference

Programs Used ~ Adobe InDesignDate Posted ~ October 5, 2013Course # & Section ~ Comm 130 Section 3Instructor Name ~ Julie PetersonObjectives ~ Apply the desing principles anduse appropriate typography. Use basic InDesignskills to improve layout. Retrieve image and logolinks from this page. Create a project folder withimage, logo and InDesign document to keep

    links intact.

Process ~I started with some sketches of myier and then used the one I liked best to designmy ier in Adobe InDesign. I wanted to createunique alignment by using several differentstrong lines throughout the ier. I also createdcontrast with the fonts and the different coloredboxes with white text. I wanted the proximity tobe relevant with the title and body copy closetogether and the logo, d.t.p., and website linktogether. I also tried to be very smart with mywhite space. Normally, white space drives me

crazy, so I had to get creative with how I placedeverything on the page.

    Imaging

Description ~An original photo edited inAdobe Photoshop with de-saturization and thesponge lter.

Programs Used ~ Adobe Photoshop andNikon DSLR camera

Date Posted ~ October 18, 2013Course # & Section ~ Comm 130 Section 3Instructor Name ~ Julie PetersonObjectives ~ Learn basic digital photographyskills. Size, crop, adjuct, brighten, changesaturation, etc. in photoshop. Apply a lter or

colorize and desaturation to the photo.

Process ~I took this photo using a friendsNikon DSLR camera. It was around sunset, sothe light was just beginning to fade. I really lovenature and I wanted to capture the feel of fallwith these leaves. After uploading the phototo Photoshop, I started to edit, using the layertool so I wouldnt destruct my original. I reallydidnt want to make it look fake. So, I took theapproach of a painting by using desaturationon the cement and saturation on the leaves. Itstill needed something more so I then used the

sponge lter which I thought really enhancedthe photo. I was also able to use different toolsin Photoshop to help me crop, and separate myimage to edit it.
