ORAC by Deborah Lively White River Artists By Dana Johnson Newsletter Date: Volume IV Issue Whew, our event season is over and it was a great series of events. I reported on the wonderful success of the 2015 Women Artist Retreat in last month’s newsletter. I am pleased to announce that we are already half full for our retreat 2016. The 6 x 6 @ 6:00 art show and sale fund raiser was suc- cessful once again. As soon as all the book keeping of income and expenses is final- ized, I will be writing a check to ASUMH for our contribu- tion to supporting the arts at ASUMH. I want to thank all out art- ists, and “celebrity” artists,. Who created and contribut- ed once again extraordinary 6 x 6 pieces of artwork in a wide variety of mediums. I truly appreciate your sup- port. A special thank you to the ORAC instructors, past, present and future, who con- tributed the 12 x 12 pieces. Dr. Martin Eggensperger, Vice Chancellor for Academ- ic Affairs, was our extremely delightful MC for the even- ing. And will be back next year. Our Fall Workshop with Karlyn Holman, from Wis- consin, was simply a magnif- icent four days of unlimited energy, learning and paint- ing. We had 22 participants and everyone felt it was a wonderful workshop. Karlyn is a delightful instruc- tor with energy to spare when it comes to inspiring her students. Lunch was brought in each day by the White Sands Restaurant In Cotter. The Cotter VFW is a nice large space with good lighting and we appreciate the use of the building for our Fall Workshop..\ Happy Thanksgiving and safe traveling. “Arts education not only enhances stu-dents' understanding of the world around them, but it also broadens their per-spective on traditional academics. The arts give us the creativity to express ourselves, while challenging our intellect. The arts in-tegrate life and learn-ing for all students and are integral in the development of the whole person. The Arts communicate
and speak to us in ways that teach liter-acy and enhance our lives. We must con-tinue to find a place for arts programs and partnerships not only for what it teaches students about art, but for what it teaches us all about the world we live in.” --Dr. Terry Bergeson, State Su-perintendent of Pub-lic Instruction, Washington State
