Trailers and motor
homes are permitted in the general forest area and at
developed recreation sites; however, water and electrical hookups are limited to certain areas. In
general, recreation areas can accommodate trailers up to 22 feet long.
CAMPINGWhile camping is restricted at wildife openings and near developed sites, it is allowed almost everywhere else in the forest unless posted otherwise. Campfires are allowed without permits, but occasionally dry weather conditions can result in burn bans. Check campground bulletin boards for specific guidance if there is any uncertainty. You are responsible for your fire and any wildfire that may result from a spreading campfire. Remember to keep your campfire small and leave your campfire “dead out.”
HUNTING Arkansas state licenses are required to fish, hunt and trap in the Ozark-St. Francis National Forests. For further information about seasons and limits, contact the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission at www.agfc.com or call 800-364-4263.
SWIMMING Swimming is allowed anywhere in the forest. Cove Lake, Shores Lake, Spring Lake and Lake Wedington have developed swim sites.
OFF-HIGHWAY VEHICLESOHVs are permitted on designated routes only. Drivers must be licensed and conform to all state laws. To ensure you are riding legally and responsibly, you must obtain a copy of the Motor Vehicle Use Map from the ranger district office or print it online at: fs.usda.gov/main/osfnf/maps-pubs. The map is also available in the Avenza app to download and save to your mobile device.
PASSESAmerica the Beautiful Senior Passes and Access Passes are valid in Arkansas. Check the local ranger district office to ensure the pass is accepted at the area you plan to visit. Camping fees usually include swimming and picnicking privileges. At Blanchard Springs Caverns, pass holders pay half the tour fee. Passes are available at the forest supervisor’s office in Russellville and at ranger district offices.
Additionally, the Ozark-St. Francis National Forests sells an annual day-use pass specifically for year-round entry on this forest. The annual pass is available at each ranger district office and will admit all passengers in a vehicle to the fee areas.

When visiting the Ozark-St. Francis National Forests you can
find trails for hiking, mountain biking, off-highway-vehicle (OHV) riding and equestrian
use. The trails have varying degrees of difficulty. Lengths range from interpretive trails that can be less
than a mile to the 240-mile Ozark Highlands Recreation Trail.
Trailheads provide entry to trails and access to wilderness areas. Trailheads are usually adjacent to parking areas, trail registers and bulletin boards. Some have parking for horse trailers and easy access for horse riding. In general, camping is not permitted at a trailhead.

SORGHUM HOLLOW HORSE CAMPThis is the trailhead camp for the Huckleberry
Mountain Horse Trail system. It is open to equestrians, vehicles, off-highway vehicles,
hikers and cyclists. If driving from Paris, take Arkansas 22 east for 10 miles. If driving from
Dardanelle, take Arkansas 22 west for 26 miles. Turn south on Sorghum Hollow
Road (gravel) and go 4.7 miles, then turn left into the horse camp.

Wilderness is a special place where people with an appetite for adventure can explore habitat that is completely natural, unaltered by human activity. A designated wilderness area receives the government’s highest level of preservation. On the Ozark National Forest, you can explore five designated wilderness areas. Wilderness is a place to hike, backpack, hunt, fish and seek solitude in nature. Special restrictions apply and are posted at each site.
