    Thank you for purchasing an ADVANCED POWER WORKMATE PORTABLE GENERATOR.We have prepared this handbook to make it easier and safer for you to use and care for your Workmate

    Portable Generator. Please read this handbook carefully as it contains important information which may prevent serious personal injury or equipment damage.

    Please read this leaflet in conjunction with the additional engine maintenance information whichcan be found in the accompanying engine owners manual.

    Your ADVANCE POWER WORKMATE PORTABLE GENERATOR has been run, tested and tuned for optimum performance at the factory prior to despatch. All fuel and oil has been drained for safe transport purposes.

    DO NOT START YOUR WORKMATE PORTABLE GENERATOR UNTIL YOU CORRECTLY FILL ENGINE CRANKCASE WITH OIL. DO NOT ADJUST THE ENGINE SPEED.

    HINTS FOR SAFE OPERATION AND BESTPERFORMANCE

    • FILL CRANKCASE WITH OILasrecommendedintheengineowner’smanual.Checkoilleveldaily.

    DO NOT USE FRICTION MODIFIED OILS

    • USE ONLY FRESH QUALITY FUELinyourAdvancePowerWorkmateGenerator.DONOTusefuelthathasbeenstoredforseveralweeks

    • DO NOT ADJUST OPERATING SPEEDthishasbeenfactoryset.Alterationwillvarytheoutputvoltageandfrequency,whichwillcausedamagetoyourappliancesand/orgeneratorandvoidyourwarranty.

    • DO NOT DISCONNECT THE LOW OIL SENDER LEAD/WIRE. THIS WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO YOUR GENERATOR AND VOID THE UNITS WARRANTY

    • DO NOT OPERATE YOUR PETROL/DIESELDRIVEN GENERATOR AT LESS THAN 1/3 FULL LOADforlongperiods.Lightloadingcancauseglazingofthecylinderboreandcauseincreasedcarbonbuildupincombustionchambers.Afterlongperiodsofoperationatlightloads,thegeneratorshouldbeoperatedfor5minutesat75%loadormoreofitsratedcapacitytodispersecarbonbuild-upinthecombustionchamber.

    •WhenSTARTINGandSTOPPINGyourWorkmatePortableGenerator,TURN OFF ALL CONNECTEDAPPLIANCES – ESPECIALLY INDUCTION MOTOR DRIVEN APPLIANCESsuchasrefrigerators,waterpumps,airconditioners,workshopmachineryandelectronicappliancessuchasTVsets.Damagemayoccurtotheseappliancesduetothehigh/lowvoltageoutputfromthegeneratorunderstartingandstoppingsituations.

    • DO NOT OPERATE YOUR WORKMATEPORTABLE GENERATOR IN AN ENCLOSED AREA. Yourgeneratorrequiresamplecirculationofcoolingair.

    • PROTECT YOUR GENERATOR FROM WATER AND RAIN. Wateringresswilldamagecomponentsandcausecorrosion,voidingyourAdvancedPowerwarranty

    •Whenusingyourgeneratortoprovidepowerfor240VoltACappliancesUSE CORRECT SIZEDFLEXIBLE POWER CABLES. Donotuselightdomesticextensionleadsforhighpowerloadingsoroverlongdistances.Damagetoyourappliancesand/orgeneratormayresultfromexcessivevoltagedropinthecable.

    • Whereappliancesaretobedirectlypluggedintothegenerator’s240VoltACpoweroutletitisrecommendedthatOVER-CURRENT PROTECTIVEDEVICES BE INSTALLEDintheactivelead

    • DO NOT EARTH GENERATOR FRAMEviaanearthstakeorothermeans.Refertoindividualsite,workplaceorstateregulationsforgeneratorEARTH STAKErequirements.

    • DO NOT REMOVE ANY BATTERY CONNECTION WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING

    GENERATOR STORAGE

    WhenyourGeneratoristobestoredforseveralweekswithoutuse:

    •DrainthecarburettorbyrunningtheenginewiththeFUEL VALVE OFFuntilitstops.EnsurenoapplianceisconnectedtotheGeneratorduringthisoperation

    •Pullstartropegentlytillslightresistanceisfelttoensuretheenginevalvesareclosed.

    • StoreinaDRYandCLEANlocation.Forlongerstorageprocedures,seetheengineownersmanual.

    •WhentransportingtheGeneratoralwaysTURN OFF THE FUEL VALVE,iffitted

    BATTERY CHARGING (IF FITTED)

    YourWorkmatePortableGeneratorisfittedwitha12VDCtricklecharger.Tochargeyourbattery,ensureyourgeneratoristurnedoffandconnectthebatteryusingappropriatebatteryleads.Makesuretheredleadconnectstothepositive(+)terminalofthebatteryandblacktothenegative(-).Startyourgeneratorandyourbatteryisnowbeingcharged.Notsuitableforbatteriesabove100amphour.NOTE,outputisnotregulatedandconnectionofsmallbatteriesforlongperiodsoftimemaycausedamagetothebattery.

    OPTIONAL BATTERY

    Allelectricstartsetsarefittedwithabatterymountingbracketandtwoleads.Theoptionalbatteryisaheavydutypre-charged12VDCmaintenancefree,sealedgel,deepcycleBattery.

    ELECTRIC START MODELSBATTERY INSTALLATION

    •Mountthebatteryintotheprovidedbatteryholder.Secureinplacebyapplyingagentlepressurewiththebatteryholderclampnuts.

    •Makingsurethestartkeyisintheoffposition,attachtheredbatterycabletothepositive(+)terminalofthebattery.Thenattachtheblackcabletothenegative(-)terminalofthebattery.

    •Theenginewillrechargeyourbatteryduringnormaloperatingperiods.Shouldyourbatteryneedadditionalrechargingduetolackofuse,aregulatedbatterychargermaybeused.Ifthisisnecessary,disconnectthebatterycablesbeforeconnectingthecharger.Ensureyouconnectthepositiveandnegativeleadstothecorrespondingterminalsatalltimes.Reversalofleadsmaycausedamagetoyourequipment.

    PETROL ENGINE STARTING OPERATION

    1 Refertoengineownersmanual. Fillcrankcasewithoilasnominatedin enginemanual.- Placeyourgeneratoronlevelground.- Removeplugordipstick- Fillcrankcaseslowlytothepointof overflowingorcorrectlevelondipstick. Replaceplugordipsticksecurely.

    2 Pullengineoverseveraltimestoensurethere hasbeennodamageduringtransit.

    3 Switchoffelectricalpoweroutlets.

    4 TurnfuelvalveON.

    5 Closechoke-pushleverindirectionof arrow.Itisnormaltousethechokewhen startingthegeneratorfromcold.

    6 DONOTADJUSTTHROTTLESETTING. Ithasbeenfactorysetandlockedatthe correctspeed.

    7 SettheON/OFFswitchtotheONposition.

    8 RECOIL/ROPESTART—Pullthestarter handleuntilslightresistanceisfelt,thenpull briskly.Allowropetorecoilslowly. ELECTRICSTART-Pressstartbuttonorturn keytostart.Donotoperatestarterformore thanabout10secondsatatime. Allow60secondsrestafter2starting attempts.

    9 Whenenginestarts,progressivelyOPENTHE CHOKEuntilenginerunssmoothly.

    10Allowenginetowarmupforabout3minutes beforeapplyinghighloadingstoyour generator.

    11 lfenginefailstostartafterseveralattempts, fuelfloodingmayhaveoccurred.Openthe choke,trystartingengineseveraltimes,then repeatstartingprocedure.

    TO STOP ENGINE

    - Movestart/stopswitchorkeytooffposistion

    DIESEL ENGINE STARTING OPERATION

    1 Refertoengineownersmanual. Fillcrankcasewithoilasnominatedin enginemanual.- Placeyourgeneratoronlevelground.- Removeplugordipstick- Fillcrankcaseslowlytothepointof overflowingorcorrectlevelondipstick. Replaceplugordipsticksecurely.

    2 Pullengineoverseveraltimestoensurethere hasbeennodamageduringtransit.

    3 Setdecompressionleveriffitted

    4 TurnfuelvalveON.

    5 Setspeedcontroltostartsetting50%iffitted (referengineowner’smanual)

    6 SettheON/OFFswitchtotheONposition.

    7 RECOIL/ROPESTART—Pullthestarter handleuntilslightresistanceisfelt,thenpull briskly.Allowropetorecoilslowly.

    ELECTRICSTART-Pressstartbuttonorturn keytostart.Donotoperatestarterformore thanabout10secondsatatime. Allow60secondsrestafter2startingattempts

    8 Runengineatidlespeedfor3minutesto allowittowarmup.

    9 Setspeedcontroltorunposition(Max) beforeapplyingloadiffitted (referengineowner’smanual)
