Why choose OwnCloud? The main reason is privacy!

With solutions like Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud or OneDrive customers do not have any control where their data is stored. OwnCloud gives the opportunity to set up a secure environment and control where data is stored and who can access it. Your files and calendar items will not be scanned for marketing purposes (Google etc) and are not stored on any USA servers or by an American company (think Ziggo, Apple, Google and Microsoft). Your data/files are therefore not subject to the Patriot Act or PRISM, which give the American government the right to request all your data (without a warrant or notifying you!).

But Owncloud also gives you a feature rich online data environment, which includes calendar and contacts, share and collaborate, working with documents (text editor), mobile and desktop file syncing and more. Read more about all the Owncloud features on the web.

Calendar on the web

Login to OwnCloud at https://nowsales.eu/owncloud with your email address/password.

On the top left is the menu where you can switch between files, documents, calendar, address book, pictures and more. These options can be limited/removed/expanded upon request by Nowsales.

Upon creation a new OwnCloud account a personal calendar is created. You need to rename your calendar to your ‘first name’ and give it a unique color. To do this click the ‘edit/pencil’ icon.

You can share your calendar with groups or individuals on our OwnCloud server by clicking the ‘share/triangle with dots’ icon. Search for a name to share your calendar and give a group or individual the right to only view or also edit/create/share items in your calendar.

If you have multiple (corporate) users by default a ‘central calendar’ will be created for which all (corporate) users will have permission to edit/create/share/delete events. A central calendar item (event/meeting) can be set to be either public (see all details) or private (free/busy) when you create a calendar item. First create an event and save it, then edit the event under the ‘share/delen’ tab).

You can show week numbers and skip the simple event editor on the bottom left under ‘Settings & Import’.



You can change your language on your personal page on the top right under ‘Persoonlijk’. If you choose, for example, Nederlands or English (British English) a 24 hour time format will be set automatically. If you choose English (US), the AM-PM time format will be set. If you wish you can also change your avatar or full name on this page.

Connecting via outlook / thunderbird / apple

Remotely connecting (android phone, thunderbird/lightning, iOS etc) to a specific calendar is done by clicking the ‘chain’ icon, this gives you the specific CalDAV Link. This address looks like: https://nowsales.eu/owncloud/remote.php/dav/calendars/ [email protected]/kalendernaam/

Apple, as so often, has an alternative iOS/OS X CalDAV address which can be found by clicking on the ‘gear icon’ at the bottom left of the screen. This address looks like: https://nowsales.eu/owncloud/remote.php/dav/principals/ users/[email protected]/

Calendar on Thunderbird/lightning (and most mail clients)

Install the latest version of Thunderbird from http://www.mozilla.org/thunderbird/

Activate your Thunderbird calendar by selecting Events and Tasks > Calendar Book. Now select File > New > Calendar.

Select On the Network.

Then select CalDAV as format and enter the CalDAV address URL of the chosen calendar from ownCloud (see page 2).

Next give the calendar a name, choose a color and link it with the appropriate e-mail address.

Next authenticate by inserting the User Name (full e-mail address) and Password that you use for ownCloud and click OK.



Setup with Android Calendars and syncing on Android devices

Android does not support CalDAV by default, so we need to install an app to allow our devices to do this. Searching for CalDAV in the Google Play store will give you a number of choices.

DAVdroid is a good option and so is the first results CalDAV Sync, but this latter one is not free.

We recommend that you install them and repeat a similar process to that listed above for syncing calendars in Thunderbird.

Setup with iOS

1. Open the settings application. 2. Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars. 3. Select Add Account. 4. Select Other as account type. 5. Select Add CalDAV account. 6. For server, https://nowsales.eu/owncloud/remote.php/dav/principals/users/[email protected]/ 7. Enter your user name and password. 8. Select Next.

Your calendar will now be visible in the Calendar application



Setup with OS X

The setup is basically the same as with iOS using the path https://nowsales.eu/owncloud/remote.php/dav/principals/users/[email protected]/ to sync with ownCloud.

For OS X 10.7 Lion and 10.8 Mountain Lion everything works fine, but OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and older needs some fiddling to work. If using Snow Leopard or older, view here.

Caldav Apple sync, in general

1. Open Apple Calendar 2. In the toolbar, click Calendar, then Preferences 3. Click the Accounts tab 4. In the accounts pane on the left, click the + button to add an account 5. Select Add CalDAV account... 6. Select Manual as account type. 7. Enter the following information:

Account type: Manual

User Name: Enter the email address that you use when logging onto your webmail.

Password: Enter the password for the same email address.

Running into verification problems on a macOS (Sierra / OS X) product?

There has been a problem/fault in Apples verification process since 2015 and it’s still not fixed, which

causes the above mentioned methods to not always work. If this is the case please try the alternate

procedure below to add your calendar account:

1. Open Apple Calendar 2. In the toolbar, click Calendar, then Preferences 3. Click the Accounts tab 4. In the accounts pane on the left, click the + button to add an account 5. Select Add CalDAV account...

6. Select Advanced as account type.

Setup in Outlook (2007 / 2010 / 2013 / 2016)

Download the outlook plugin https://sourceforge.net/projects/outlookcaldavsynchronizer/.

Shutdown Outlook and install the plugin, then restart Outlook.

Step 1. Click on the new tab ‘CalDav Synchronizer’ and next click ‘Synchronisation Profiles’

Step 2. Select ‘Generic CalDav’



Step 3. Fill out the form with all your OwnCloud data. For Outlook Folder select the folder

‘Calendar’ as shown or create a new calendar within this folder.



Step 4 (optional). When adding multiple OwnCloud calendars to Outlook you can automatically

set the appropriate colour for each one. Go to ‘Mapping configuration’ and enter the name (i.e.

your first name or Centrale Agenda) of the specific Owncloud calendar in ‘Sync only

Appointments for this category’. Next select ‘Map Calendar Color to category color’ and click on

‘Fetch color’.

Step 5. Click ok to complete the process and start syncing. Repeat these steps for each

Owncloud calendar you’re adding to Outlook. If only adding one calendar, you can skip step 4.

Install the client and enter the server address https://nowsales.eu/owncloud and enter your user credentials (email address / password). Next choose what to sync and where to place the files/folders on your local hard drive and click ‘connect’. When the client is installed and connected you can sync and share your files.

Sharing In your local environment (windows explorer / finder) you can right-click a file and choose ‘share with owncloud’. You can choose to share a file with other users or groups on the pasjijbijmij.info owncloud server (this option does not work at the moment, a server upgrade is required) or share with anyone through a link (this works, much like dropbox). It is also possible to user the client for more than one account (a server upgrade is required for this option to work).

At the moment each user has 2GB of space on the server (this can be expanded).
