For example, you may want to share Envision It! Animations,
which feature Ollie and his friends introducing the theme’s Big
Question, during whole-class instruction.
Learning Games, which provide important skill-building practice,
might be more appropriate for independent practice.
Look for the OWL Interactive icons, found throughout your
Teacher’s Guides, for reminders about the interactive resources
that are available to support and enhance each lesson.
For instance, when planning a Day 5 Story Time lesson that
focuses on rereading and retelling the weekly Trade Book story, you
will notice that there is an interactive Story Sort available
online.
From your Savvas SuccessNet® account, you can preview the Story
Sort and assign it for students to complete as an independent
practice activity.

Reread and Retell
Reread Invite children to chime in on parts of A Little Bit
More. Listen for the elephant’s answer to each animal. Read “Oh,
yes, dear [name of animal]. I need a hand. I’ve hurt my leg and I
can’t stand!” with me. Continue to explain words and concepts
indirectly, using tone of voice, facial expressions, and
illustrations.
Retell and Elaborate Use Envision It! Retelling Storyboard 30 to
help children retell the story, encouraging them to use the
Vocabulary to Use. As children retell, elaborate on their
responses.
• Why does the elephant swing from the tree? (He thinks that if
monkeys can swing, then he should also be able to.) It turns out
that he is too heavy to swing from the tree.
• Who arrives first to help the elephant? (the zebra) She saw a
cloud of dust fly up where the elephant fell, so she knew where to
go.
• Who is trying to help the elephant now? (the zebra, monkey,
camel, and hippo) Oh, no! Even four animals working together can’t
lift the elephant. They need another friend to help them.
FeedbackIf… children have trouble retelling the story, then…
reread parts of the story to remind them what happened.
Go Beyond Take children beyond the story with questions such as:
What would happen if the elephant fell again? Who would be able to
lift him? Turn to the last pages in the book to help children
answer these questions.

“Si un elefante se balanceaba sobre la tela de una araña,
¿por qué no podría yo balancearme sobre una rama?”
Así piensa un elefante despampanante que,
metido en apuros, pide ayuda a la cebra, que al mono,
al camello e incluso al animal más insignificante.

“If silly monkeys can swing from a tree, then why not an
elephant like me?” he thought to himself happily.
That is what a heavy elephant thought. Then he got himself into
trouble and had to ask for help from some others, including a
zebra, a monkey, a camel, and the smallest of animals. Who might
that be?

Books and Readers
Click the Teacher’s Guide link to access eText versions of the
unit Teacher’s Guides, Planning and Assessment Teacher’s Guide, and
Professional Development Handbook.
It is easy to navigate to specific pages or lessons within each
Teacher’s Guide.
For example, From the Plan Your Week page, you can quickly jump

Assign the Test
Administer the Test
Input Test Data
You will first want to assign the test to your students.
Go to the Content tab, and select Tests. Select the test that
you are looking for under Test type. For example, select Screening
Assessment.
When you place your cursor over the test name and click, a blue
menu appears. From here, you can assign the test to all or some of
the students in your class. If you do not wish to assign the test
to a certain student, simply uncheck the box next to his or her
name. Select the range of dates that you would like the test to be
available, and click Save.
The test now appears in the assignment list on the Planning
tab.
After you have assigned the test to students through your Savvas
SuccessNet® account, the next step is to administer the test. You
can access copies of the assessment and recording form under My
Teacher Resources.
Or, you can copy them directly from the Planning and Assessment
Teacher’s Guide.
After administering the test, you will need to input the results
into your Savvas SuccessNet® account. Navigate to the test by going
to the Planning tab and selecting Assignments.
Place your cursor over the test name, click, and select
Edit/Score. Find the student’s name, and select Score/Re-score
under Test Responses.
A list of test items appears. Click Show Questions to see how
this list corresponds to the information on the recording form.
Refer to the information that you collected on the recording form
as you assign a score of either 1 or 0 for each question. When you
are finished, click Save. The results now appear in the Percent
Score column. They are also factored into the
Assessment-At-A-Glance image on the Home page.

student’s progress over the course of the year.
If you are wondering what the class’s performance looks like for
a specific skill or standard, look to the Class Mastery Report.
