Overcoming temptation and hard times in the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. He was full of the Spirit when he began and he went through the temptation in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil.
Luke 4:1-2
When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time. Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.

Overcoming in the power of the Spirit
1. Understand God takes us through hard times.
God led Israel into & through the red sea.
God led Israel into the promised land and they conquered it.
God led Jesus into & through the wilderness.
God led Paul into & through the shipwreck.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.

That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead.

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

God’s power to overcome
Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
