Software development outsourcing

“It’s not simply a cost reduction exercise”
A long time ago in a land far away lived a software developer who was busy night and day
He toiled long and hard and was as busy as can be but at 5pm he went home for his tea
Now it’s not a bad thing that he went home to eat but his far away client had their own client to meet.
When the software was not done and the project delayed the software developer was more than dismayed.
He worked 10 hour days because he had a family to feed but his far away client was driven by greed
The far away client told him to work night and day and if he didn’t they would cut half his pay
So the software developer increased his working day and worked harder and harder to receive his low pay.
The software developer was getting depressed, the more he worked the less he had rest
Finally it happened, the developer became ill, but work he did because he had hungry mouths to fill
On he went, developing was a chore but he continued working until he could work no more
All worked had stopped and the client started to shout, why has our developer decided to bail out.
But try as they might, with threats of reduced pay, the software developer could no longer work night and day
So the client called him up to see what was wrong, but the software developer had for a long time gone.
He had chosen a new path for a much better life, working 8 hour days to feed his children and wife.
Now the clients was stuck with no where to go, choosing a local contractor was ever so slow
But get one they did and the work was complete, but tripled their costs for their own clients demands to meet
The moral to this story is as simple as can be: low cost, long hours outsourcing is false economy
Relationships work when both parties agree that supplier and client work with integrity
So what happened to the software developer how did he fare, he went and worked for PortfolioSoftware.
He was happy with life and so were his family, because the company he worked for had oodles of integrity
