INT. MEDIA BAR, MENS TOILETS

CHARLIE walks into the Mens restroom. Hes 23, six-footand fair-haired. He wears glasses, an old comic-bookt-shirt, cardigan, chinos and battered sneakers.

The door of one cubicle is ENGAGED, the other slightlyajar. He pushes on the door a little, but it slams backand locks.

CHARLIEOh, sorry

He walks over to the urinal. On the wall is the back pageof THE SUN newspaper. He unzips his flies, standing insilence.

A YOUNG PROFESSIONAL walks in. He stands next to Charlie,

unzips his trousers and starts to urinate. Charlie standsin silence, still not peeing.

The Young Professional continues to pee. One of thecubicals behind becomes free, an OLDER PROFESSIONAL walksout. He doesnt wash his hands, heading straight out.

Charlie zips up, walks back and into the cubicle. He shutsthe door, unzips and starts to pee.

CUT TO: Title card: Outside. Subtitle: "October"

INT. MEDIA BAR, EVENING

Basement bar. Young professionals playing pool, sitting oncomfy sofas and at tables chatting.

Charlie walks through the bar. He stops midway to pull hiszipper up.

He walks over to a table, where a handsome, stubbledpreppy guy sits alone, phone in hand.

LEEThought youd done a runner

CHARLIE(Bashfully, taking a seat)

Oh, it was... There was a queue

Lee puts his phone away.

CHARLIESo you were telling me about yoursisters kids

Charlie walks through the bar, towards the door. In thebackground, Lee punches Will on the arm, whos laughing.

INT. LIVERPOOL STREET STATION, LONDON - NIGHT

Stood in the middle of the concourse, Charlie stares up atthe train times - all trains read DELAYED

CHARLIE(Muttering)

Charlie walks to the upstairs part of the station.

Charlie walks towards a FAST FOOD restaurant.

INT. TRAIN, NIGHT

Charlie sits, balancing his fast food on his lap and anewspaper on the seat next to him. He takes a noisy swigof his drink, visibly irritating another passenger.

INT. CHAIN PUB #1, NIGHTCharlie walks through, trying to make his way through thebusy bar area

CHARLIESorry... excuse me... sorry

He reaches a table at the back of the pub, where threeguys in their early twenties sit, mid-conversation. DAN -Bearded, confident; CHRIS - Glasses, well-dressed; OLLY -Shorter than the rest, thinning hair.

CHARLIEAlright bitches

CHRISCome straight from work?

Charlie chucks his backpack onto the floor and take aseat.

CHARLIEYeah... trains. Had a few withthe guys at work first

INT. CHAIN PUB #1 - BAR AREA, NIGHT

Charlie and Dan wait amongst a huge queue of people. Danpushes forward into a gap at the bar.

DANDid you get my email with thehotels?

CHARLIEYeah. I just need to see when Ican get the time off

DANYouve been saying that for ages

Charlie squirms, his bum pinched.

JENNA(A mock gruff voice)

Charlie and Dan turn around, to see JENNA. Shes blonde,bright blue eyes and with a killer smile.

Charlie queues up to hand his backpack in to thecloakroom.

Two drunk girls, in their late teens, stand behind him inthe queue.

Charlie looks down at his phone.

He walks straight past the girls, who giggle.

INT. NOISY BAR - BAR AREA, NIGHT

The group is joined by a tall girl with long brown hairand a beautiful dress. This is KAZ.

Charlie momentarily mimics a booty-shaking dance to themusic, with MEL joining in and slapping his bum.

MELTap that ass!

Charlie looks on to the dance-floor, seeing DAN snogging alarger girl. CHRIS speaks with one of her (clearlyuninterested) friends. Hes swaying, drunkenly.

INT. NOISY BAR, DANCE-FLOOR

Everyone is dancing wildly.

KAZ shuffles closer to CHARLIE.

Kaz grabs Charlies arm, pulling him out of thedance-floor area, and into a quieter area - both unsteadyon their feet.

CHARLIE(Laughs)

The music changes to a bouncy, loud beat. CHRIS appearsfrom nowhere, grabbing Charlies arm.

Charlie looks back, smiling at Kaz, who laughs and waveshim to the dance-floor.

EXT. NIGHT CLUB, NIGHT

Charlie stumbles out of the club, arm in arm with JENNA.

IZZY and KAZ follow behind. Kazs eyes linger on the two,cautiously.

KAZAre Charlie and Jenna -

IZZYTheyre like brother and sister

KAZBut shes -

IZZYShes Chriss actual sister

Jenna breaks free of Charlie, to go pat her brother CHRISon the back - hes being sick on the pavement.

DAN and OLLY walk towards them, kebabs in hand.

CHRIS(Mocking voice)

Chris cuts himself off by heaving again.

CHARLIE(Grabbing a handful of Danschips)

I need food before we get a taxi

Charlie glances over at the bus stop nearby. The two drunkgirls from the cloakroom are now without coats.

Charlie shuffles away. In the background the girls aregiggling.

INT. OFFICE, DAY

Charlie is sat at his desk. The office is a typicalmedia-industry set up, and twelve or so people scatteredaround at desks.

He picks up a ringing phone.

CHARLIEHello, Charlie speaking

He smiles, and turns his attention to the screen. He opensan email.

CHARLIEHi Helen... how was your... Sure,hold on. Lets take a look

EXT. SOHO - LONDON, LUNCHTIME

Charlie walks out of a Supermarket, carrier bag of food inhand. His phone starts to ring. He fumbles around, tryingto find it.

He looks down at the caller ID - its IZZY

CHARLIE(Surprised)

Hey!

Izzy calls while sat at her works kitchen area, whilemaking a microwave meal.

IZZYCharlieeee! Did you get your bagback alright?

Charlie stares at his phone in disbelief, huffing.

INT. INDOOR SWIMMING POOL, EVENING

Charlie tries to catch his breath at the side of the pool,lifting his goggles up onto his head. DAN bobs up fromunder the water, lifting up his goggles to clean them.

DANAre they prescription?

CHARLIENah, theyre so expensive. Gonnaget my eyes lasered, anyway

DANI still remember when you turnedup at school in those NationalHealth ones

Both laugh.

EXT. LIVERPOOL STREET STATION, NIGHT

CHARLIE stands nervously by an escalator - his smartclothes sopping wet from the pouring rain.

He fails to push in amongst a crowd of people standingunder shelter to escape the rain.

Charlie pulls a phone out of his pocket. No messages, nomissed calls. Its 19:13.

He paces the area, his shiny black shoes slipping on thefloor.

His phone vibrates. He pulls the phone out. Its a photomessage from DAN - its a photo of the Milky Bar Kid. Helaughs.

A few businessmen push past towards the train station. Ayoung, camp man loiters nearby, but walks back inside.

He returns to the escalator, catching the eye of aTWENTY-SOMETHING MAN - tall, suited, with piercing blueeyes. Their eyes quickly dart back to their phones. TheTwenty-Something Man types with a smile.

ANTHONYCharlie?

Charlie smiles. He looks up.

In front of him is ANTHONY. Hes mid-thirties, tall, with

a mop of messy black hair, unshaven, and wears a longquilted sports coat. Underneath is an untucked shirt,black trousers and running trainers.

Charlie tries to smile.

Over Anthonys shoulder the Twenty-Something Man greets afemale with a kiss on the cheek, and they walk off intothe rain.

CHARLIE(Distracted)

Yeah

He holds his hand out, which Anthony shakes feebly.Charlie laughs, nervously.

Anthony shrugs.

Charlie looks around at his surroundings. He clocks theCHAIN PUB behind him.

Charlie leads the way in, gentlemanly opening the door.Anthony wanders in, saying nothing.

INT. CHAIN PUB #2, NIGHT

The pub is filled with City workers, men and women insuits. Its possibly the worst location for a first date.

Charlies sat playing with his phone at a table, alone. Heopens up a message from IZZY: "Kaz is SO excited!!!xxx"

ANTHONY walks over, holding a Guinness and a beer. Henever takes his coat off.

Charlie turns the phone screen off, and places itface-down onto the table. Anthony passes the pint of

Guinness

Charlie takes a huge sip of his drink.

Charlie looks down at his phone. One missed call.CHARLIE

Right, time to visit the gents

Anthony nods, gormlessly.

INT. CHAIN PUB #2 - TOILET, NIGHT

Charlie walks into the bathroom. He pushes the cubicledoors - both are engaged.

As he walks slowly towards the urinals, a cubicle dooropens. Out walks TWENTY-SOMETHING MAN hed earlierexchanged glances with.

The man smiles, which seems to have a stun effect onCharlie - who looks nervously at his feet and shufflesinto the cubicle, locking the door.

He pulls the toilet lid down, sitting down. He gets hisphone out, seeing the missed call from an unknown number.

He looks at the number, confused. He clicks on "RETURNCALL", and a dial tone starts to ring.

CHARLIE(To himself)

KAZ (VOICE)(Laughing)You sound a bit drunk

KAZ (VOICE)On a Tuesday night?

CHARLIEI know, Im such a rebel

KAZ (VOICE)(Giggling)

Charlie stares up at the ceiling, grimacing

KAZ (VOICE)Do you fancy meeting up fordinner, or drinks... sometimesoon?

Charlie hesitates

KAZ (VOICE)You know, as we work so close toeach other

A BLOKE rattles the cubicle door from the outside.

BLOKEYou gonna be long in there, mate?

He grins, opening up the text. He groans, its fromRICHARD WORK. "Hope you had fun tonight ;)".

He smiles, and puts the phone away. The music continues.

He stares, somewhat longingly, at a young straight couplesat opposite. Theyre giggly and tactile, clearly in love.

The music dips. A BEEP.

The message is from Kaz: "Cant wait to meet up! Im freeon Friday if you are xxx".

He hangs his head down, closes his eyes and sighs.
