PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Welcome to this issue of the KHS newsletter.

HSC examinations conclude this week and our Yr 12 Formal takes place next Wednesday evening. I thank the greater student body, Yrs 7 -11 for their quiet movement around the hall during the examination process and their respect shown to Yr 12.

Last Tuesday KHS held the final Kyogle Enrichment and Engagement Program (KEEP) classroom event. Students from the Kyogle Community of schools have experienced exciting and educational days within our faculties. The final day was in Science. KEEP remains a valuable experience for Year 6 students challenging themselves in gifted programs offering insight into 21

st century learning

in secondary education. My thanks to all KHS staff who gave time and energy in providing fun and interesting hands on workshops throughout the year.

The KEEP program concludes with a presentation of student Personal Interest Projects (PIPs) on Tuesday 13 November at KHS. The theme for the projects in 2018 is “WHAT RESOURCE DOES KYOGLE NEED TO GROW AS A COMMUNITY IN THE 21

ST CENTURY?” I look

forward to interesting and unique insights.

Application to be part of the KEEP program for 2019 will arrive at participating schools in the comings weeks. This week has seen the final PBL expectation delivered to students. The final setting for 2018 is around walkways, hallways and verandahs:

DEPUTY PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

HSC Exams Friday 9th November is a special day as it signifies the last HSC exam for 2019. Congratulations to all our Year 12 students for their positive and studious approach they have taken while completing their exam papers - I am sure this approach will carry through to some great results. A huge thank you to Raema Perkins, our HSC supervisor for many years who, along with her capable team, have done a great job in looking after the Year 12’s and ensuring the experience was as less stressful as possible.

Junior Exams In Week 6 our junior students will be sitting formal exams in the hall in many of their subjects. In line with our PBL expectations regarding examinations, students are reminded to:

Students, along with parent/carers, should be mindful that these exams results will form part of the marks appearing on the end of year reports.

Year 12 Formal Next Wednesday will be our Year 12 Formal. Our Year 12 students will attend a Garden Party at the school in the front garden from 4.30-5.30pm with fingerfood and mocktails prepared and served by our talented Hospitality students led by Mrs Bryant. Professional photographs will be taken at this time including the group photo. Students will be collected by their partners at 5.30pm and will leave the school for the last time as students of Kyogle High. We have over 210 students and guests attending the Formal and I wish everyone a wonderful night. A reminder that as this is a school event there is to be no alcohol in the auditorium until Mr Hanley announces that the school event has concluded.

STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL

On the 29th of October, two SRC members visited the Southern Cross University to attend the GRIP leadership conference. This was an informative day with several workshops covering: - How to involve more people in school events - How to maximise my contribution to my school team - How to create an amazing school culture We attended the above sessions, where we met students from other schools within our district. We gained valuable skills and information to aid the running of the SRC and enhance our school culture. Special thanks to Ms McDonough who organised our travel and attendance.
