Intra-Agency Collaboration
• Translational research symposium co-hosted by AoA and NIDILRR (February 2016)– Highlighted using translational research strategies to increase
evidence-based program reach for people with disabilities in community settings
• Variety of methods– Adapting an intervention curriculum (EnhanceWellness)
– Adding “disability friendly” elements to various contextual factors (CDSMP)• Additional training for program coordinators and lay leaders,
ensuring workshop locations are accessible, etc.
CDSME and Falls Prevention Discretionary Funding
• Adults and older adults with disabilities specifically cited as a target population in FY 2016 CDSME and Falls Prevention Funding Opportunity Announcements
• Intended to “increase the number…while concurrently increasing the sustainability of these proven programs in the aging and disability networks through innovative funding arrangements…”
Engaging Adults with Disabilities in CDSME and Falls Prevention Programs
• Health disparities when compared with the general population
– High blood pressure, obesity, less physically active, less social-emotional support
• Older adults with disabilities present a greater falls risk
