Outram School Newsletter Volume 1 Number 9 – 2 April 2015 OUTRAM SCHOOL VISION – A school where children strive for excellence, love learning, develop their passions and reach their potential Dear Parents Tēnā koutou, kia ora koutou katoa. On Monday, I joined Room 6 for the first day of their Pounawea Camp. The highlight of the day was the Tautuku confidence course. The Tautuku course is certainly a challenging one and I was very impressed with the way the students responded. There was a real sense of achievement as the children completed the range of different challenges around the course. A huge thank you to Stu Casey, who made a special trip south to run this activity for the class and thank you to all the camp parents, who stationed themselves around the course to support and help the students. I am confident that after a great first day the rest of Room 6’s camp will have been an awesome experience. A great camp was certainly experienced last week by Room 7. The photos, stories and reports all tell of a wonderful week. I was delighted to receive an email from the camp caretakers, commending both the Room 7 and Room 6 children on their great attitude and behaviour. As always, these outdoor experiences are only possible with the dedication of our staff and the fantastic level of support from our parents. Thank you everyone for making the Year 5 and 6 camp experiences possible. With the end of term, we wish Angie Carter all the best as she begins her maternity leave. We will all wait with interest of news from Angie on the birth of her and Owain’s first child; a new member of our school family. With Angie starting her leave, and with Mrs Paterson also on maternity leave, Mrs Tracey Hunter will teach Room 6 full time for Term 2 and Mrs Megan Bremner will be working extra hours in Mrs Carter’s attached teacher role. In this role, Mrs Bremner will still have close teaching contact with the Room 6 students. This has been a short but very full and busy first term. I would like to wish everyone a relaxed and enjoyable Easter and two week break. I look forward to welcoming everyone back to school for the start of Term 2. Pool Update
As the end of the school term fast approaches the 2014-2015 pool season is
about to end. The final day for this season will be Sunday April 19th so yes the pool will be open over the school holidays. Pool keys need to be
returned to the office by Friday May 8th to receive your $10 deposit. If keys are returned after this date you will not get your $10 deposit refunded.
A huge thank you to Kevin Brady who opens and closes the pool everyday
throughout the season. He is the one who keeps the water topped up, the chlorine levels just right, the floor of the pool vacuumed and the water at the
right temperature. Thank you to the committee and those very generous
volunteers who have been on the cleaning roster and kept the changing rooms, toilets and pool surrounds clean and tidy. Lastly thank you to those of you
who supported the pool by purchasing a key and making the most of this great little asset we have right here in Outram.
Our Annual Meeting will be held in Term 2 on Wednesday April 29th. If you
are keen to come along and hear what has been happening with the Pool or would be interested in being part of our committee for the next year we would
love to see you there. The venue is to be confirmed and we will advise the venue in the first newsletter next term.
