Unit 1 Scenario
You have recently been employed as an ICT executive in a new and innovative sports technology clothing company called SMARTGEAR. Your role within this new and rapidly growing business is to maximise the business efficiency and enhance the use of ICT within the organisation.
This role will cover a variety of tasks and duties, ranging from staff training to data analysis. In addition, you will use a wide range of software from common office applications, multimedia programs and the emergent technologies that can be accessed via the web.

• Video conferencing is replacing the need for face to face meetings and saving organisations a lot of money
• Employees/clients/suppliers/etc can see each other, the surroundings, etc and are able to communicate in real time much like a face to face meeting
• Generally this is undertaken in offices as the equipment involved can be quite expensive
• Web conferencing is similar but this happens from remote locations (i.e. All employees can be sat anywhere to do this)
• Tele conferencing is similar also. However, this takes out the element of face to face contact and relies solely on audio

• Improvements in technology have increased the rapid growth of this area
• E-commerce has become popular as people trust the system and growth is expected to continue year on year
• There are benefits to the organisation in terms of personnel, stock control, paper work, etc
What is e-Business?

e-Commerce V e-Business
The terms e-Commerce has a narrower meaning than e-Business. E-Commerce refers to specifically paying for goods and services whereas e-Business covers the full range of business activities that can happen or be assisted via email or the Web.
E-Commerce is a subset of e-Business
What is e-Marketing?
“The marketing of products and services of the Internet”
• This isn’t as straight forward as it sounds as you need to have a strategy and consider a range of different factors
• The use of social networking has recently expanded the effectiveness of e-Marketing
• There are significant financial benefits for the organisation also• Previously retail-orientated industries have seen a significant
impact upon their businesses• Internet marketing has recently overtaken radio marketing in
terms of market share• E-Marketing has allowed companies to focus on behaviours or
interests expanding from just age group, gender, etc
