4 Thus says the LORD of hosts: Old men and old women shall again sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each one with his staff in his hand because of great age.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE OLD FOLKS? WHY?

READ: ISAIAH 65:2020 No more shall an infant from there live but a few days, nor an old man who has not fulfilled his days. For the child shall die one hundred years old, but the sinner being one hundred years old shall be accursed.

WHY IS THIS MARVELOUS IN THEIR EYES?

READ: PSALMS 118:2323 This was the LORD'S doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.

READ: PSALMS 126:1-31 When the LORD brought back the captivity of Zion, we were like those who dream.2 Our mouth was filled with laughter and our tongue with singing. They said among the nations, The LORD has done great things for them.3 The LORD has done great things for us and we are glad.

WHERE WERE THE LORD’S PEOPLE?

READ: EZEKIEL 11:19-2019 I will give them one heart. I will put a new spirit within them. I will take the stony heart out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh,20 That they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgmentsand do them. They shall be My people and I will be their God.



WHY IS THE LORD BRINGING THEM BACK?

READ: EZEKIEL 36:2828 You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers. You shall be My people and I will be your God.

READ: HEBREWS 8:1010 This is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord. I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

READ: EZRA 5:11 The prophet Haggai and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophets, prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem, in the name of the God of Israel, who was over them.

BECAUSE OF MY HOUSE THAT IS IN RUINS, WHILE EVERY ONE OF YOU RUNS TO HIS OWN HOUSE.10 Therefore the heavens above you withhold the dew and the earth withholds its fruit.


11 But now I will not treat the remnant of this people as in the former days, says the LORD of hosts.

12 For the seed shall be prosperous, the vine shall give its fruit, the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew-- I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these.

READ: 2 CHRONICLES 36:1616 They mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against His people, till there was no remedy.

READ: JEREMIAH 39:22 In the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the city was penetrated.

READ: JEREMIAH 52:6-76 The fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the famine had become so severe in the city that there was no food for the people of the land.7 The city wall was broken through, and all the men of war fled and went out of the city at night by way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king's garden, even though the Chaldeanswere near the city all around. They went by way of the plain.

READ: 2 KINGS 25:8-108 In the fifth month, on the seventh day of the month which was the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem.9 He burned the house of the LORD and the king's house; all the houses of Jerusalem, that is, all the houses of the great, he burned with fire.10 All the army of the Chaldeans who were with the captain of the guard broke down the walls of Jerusalem all around.

READ: JEREMIAH 41:1-31 It came to pass in the seventh month that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the royal family and of the officers of the king, came with ten men to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, at Mizpah. And there they ate bread together in Mizpah.2 Then Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and the ten men who were with him, arose and struck Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, with the sword, and killed him whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.3 Ishmael also struck down all the Jews who were with him, that is, with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans who were found there, the men of war. (2 KINGS 25:25-26)

READ: JEREMIAH 39:11 In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came against Jerusalem, and besieged it.

READ: JEREMIAH 31:10-1310 Hear the word of the LORD, O nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, He who scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him as a shepherd does his flock.11 The LORD has redeemed Jacob and ransomed him from the hand of one stronger than he.12 They shall come and sing in the height of Zion, streaming to the goodness of the LORD-- For wheat and new wine and oil, For the young of the flock and the herd. Their souls shall be like a well-watered garden and they shall sorrow no more at all.13 Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, the young men and the old, together. For I will turn their mourning to joy. I will comfort them and make them rejoice rather than sorrow.


20 Thus says the LORD of hosts: Peoples shall yet come, inhabitants of many cities;

21 The inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us continue to go and pray before the LORD, and seek the LORD of hosts. I myself will go also.

22 Yes, many peoples and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the LORD.


20 Thus says the LORD of hosts: Peoples shall yet come, inhabitants of many cities;21 The inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us continue to go and pray before the LORD, and seek the LORD ofhosts. I myself will go also.22 Yes, many peoples and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem and to pray before the LORD.

Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on My altar. For My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.
