RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS
Gender and Identity – Lesson 3 This week we took on Lesson 3 of Unit 7 ‘Gender and Identity’ in 1/2 Rodda/Orr. We read an inclusive gender story titled ‘Remi Loves to Dance.’ Followed on from ‘Aysha should be a cricket captain.’ The story was about a student who liked to dance and it made him feel excited and happy, but was told that he was a boy and boys can’t dance. As a class we discussed Remi’s problem and how we would feel if we were in the same situation. Grade 1/2RO responses were as follows: Eula- ‘People would feel frustrated if you weren’t allowed to play what you wanted to play.” Calvin- ‘You need to stand up for yourself and friends. Boys and Girls can play anything!’ Alexis- ‘Everyone has a choice what they would like to play.’ Sean- ‘It give’s everyone confidence when they play something they want to.’
Sunsmart Hats
Students at Spring Gully Primary School are required to wear a Sunsmart hat during recess, lunch, P.E, Sport and
any other outdoor activity.
The only acceptable hats at Spring Gully Primary School are plain green or black Sunsmart hats, consistent with
our Sunsmart Policy.
When choosing your hat, remember:
a hat should shade your face, head, ears and neck
a broad brimmed hat should have a brim of at least 7.5 cm
a bucket hat should have a deep crown, angled brim of at least 6 cm and sit low on the head
To best support our Sun Smart policy, please clearly and permanently label your child’s name on the inside of the
hat. Tracing ownership in a school of this size can be an impossible task if articles are not named. An identifying
sign is not sufficient to enable us to trace owners.
Children who do not have an appropriate hat will only be permitted to play in allocated shaded areas.
