CONDEMNS ALL LIQUOR"Prohibition is one of the twogreatest moral victorics in the historyof t he wor ld," said John A. :McSparran, spcaking before a meeting ofprohibition supporters in Narberthlast Friday night. "Repeal of theEightecnth Amcndment or of thcVolstead Act is a laughab le impossi bi li ty, " he wen t on.Mr. McSparran , S ta te Secretary of

Agriculture, was the principal speakerbefore a group of two hundred Narberth residents at a supper in the newlI.lethodist church building. Th .e gathe ri ng was held unde r t he auspices ofthe Anti-Saloon League. The speaker, after a humorous introduction by Dr. Homcr \V. Topc,Pennsylvania superintcndcnt of theLeague, laullched into a condemnationof drinking in all its forms, and ref reshed the memor ics of the audienccas to conditions before prohibition."The World War killed 100,000 of

our boys in two ycars ," he said, "andplunged the count ry into mou rn ing .Yet we used t o bury 200,000 peopleeach year in drunkards ' graves. Beforeprohibition it was estimatcd that therewere 5,000,000 hard dr inkc rs in t hiscountry, who were for that reasondoomed to die twenty-nine year s before their t ime. It was estimated thatthe lives of 20,000,000 moderate drinke rs were sho rt en ed by thi rt ecn year seach.

    SPRINGFIELD WATER

Philadelphia Suburban Water Company has a storage reservoir onPickering Creek and is now completing a huge basin on Crum Creek, where approximately four billion gallons will be held in reserve to provide against a shortage.

With present-day demands, this natural flow is totally inadequate, evenwhen the streams are not depleted by extreme drought.

The demand for water is constantly growing, and the u s e ~ to whichwater is put by nlan are increasing with each decade.

Notwithstanding the recent drought, the most severe in many years,Springfield Water has been furnished in practically undiminished volUOle and at all times has met the highest sanitary requirements.

To meet this situation, huge impounding reservoirs are necessary, inwhich flood water may be stored up and held in reserve, not only to meetseasonal fluctuations, but to provide for depletion over a period of successive dry years.

The drought has served to emphasize these dominating factors inwater supply.Ten years ago water requirements for Suburban Philadelphia could

not bemet by the natural flow of available streams.

Natural water resources are strictly limited in number and quantity, fluctuate in volume from year to year and not all are suitable for domesticpurposes.
