GATHERING THE HOLY SPIRIT CALLS US TOGETHER AS THE PEOPLE OF GOD.

Prayer of the Day [BA] God of love, giver of life, you know our frailties and failings. Give us
your grace to overcome them, keep us from those things that harm us, and guide us in the way of salvation, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
[BA] Welcome & Announcements
[BA] Kyrie (spoken) ELW 157 [L] In peace, let us pray to the Lord. [C] Lord, have mercy.
[L] For the reign of God, and for peace throughout the world, for the unity of all, let us pray to the Lord.
[C] Christ, have mercy.
[L] For your people here who have come to give you praise, for the strength to live your word, let us pray to the Lord.
[C] Lord, have mercy.
[L] Help, save, and defend us, O God. [C] Amen.
WORD GOD SPEAKS TO US IN SCRIPTURE, PREACHING, AND SONG.
First Reading: Philippians 2:1-13 If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love,
any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full

accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others. Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness.
And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross. Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed me, not only in my presence, but much more now in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, enabling you both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
The Word of the Lord. [C] Thanks be to God.
Children’s Message
Gospel: Matthew 21:23-27 When [Jesus] entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the
people came to him as he was teaching, and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?” Jesus said to them, “I will also ask you one question; if you tell me the answer, then I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. Did the baptism of John come from heaven, or was it of human origin?” And they argued with one another, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ But if we say, ‘Of human origin,’ we are afraid of the crowd; for all regard John as a prophet.” So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And he said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things. The Gospel of the Lord.
[C] Thanks be to God.

[BA] Apostles’ Creed [C] I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Prayers of the People After each petition: [BA] . . . Lord, in your mercy, [C] hear our prayer.
MEAL GOD FEEDS US WITH THE PRESENCE OF JESUS CHRIST.
[BA] Offering Announcement – Offerings may be placed in the containers as you head home after worship.
Offertory Prayer [BA] God of goodness and growth, all creation is yours, and your faithfulness
is sure. Empower us with your Spirit, so we might proclaim your steadfast love in word and deed in our communities and in the world, through Jesus Christ, our strength.
[C] Amen.
Words of Institution [BA] In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this

for the remembrance of me.
[BA] The Lord’s Prayer [C] Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen
Communion Goodness of God
Post Communion Blessing [BA] The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep
you in his grace. [C] Amen.
Post Communion Prayer [BA] Lord, in this meal we have been fed with your goodness and united by your
presence. Send us now to share your neighborly love with all people. [C] Amen.
SENDING GOD BLESSES US AND SENDS US TO REACH OUT WITH A VOICE OF HOPE.
Blessing [BA] Nothing in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God
in Christ Jesus. May God, the creator, Jesus, the Christ, and the Holy Spirit, the comforter, bless you and keep you + now and forever.
[C] Amen.

GRATEFUL GENEROSITY!
The theme of our fall stewardship emphasis is Grateful Generosity! Amidst this pandemic and concerns about financially sustaining our mission and ministry, this congregation has so far stepped up and given generously! Thank you to all who have given as you’ve been able, even above and beyond to cover for those whose giving may have been impacted by economic hardship.
Sunday, October 11 will be Commitment Sunday. On that day you will be invited to submit an Estimate of Giving card for 2021. The card indicates your plan and is not a “bill” that will come due. But your response will help the Council to budget for 2021.
Thank you, Our Saviour’s, for your grateful generosity in 2020!

CALL COMMITTEE SELECTS FINAL CANDIDATE! The Call Committee has chosen a final candidate whom they are excited to recommend to Council as OSLC’s new senior pastor! The Call Committee will meet with the Council by the end of this month to give a presentation about the candidate and to share why they made their choice. The Council is now scheduling a meet-and-greet with the candidate. Following that meeting, the Council will endorse the candidate and then send a letter to the congregation. The letter will share information about the candidate and announce a special congregational meeting to vote to extend a call to the candidate. Expect to receive the letter in the first part of October and a congregational meeting later in October!
