Take a stroll through our new outdoor learning environment...
A SEED IS PLANTEDOur first steps toward forming roots and building a strong
foundation are beginning to flourish and grow.Since January we have been working with Bienenstock Natural Playgrounds to design an area that will enrich the learning and playing of our students. Bienenstock is at the forefront of design and safety in designing learning and playing environments. You can view their work and our design on their website (www.naturalplaygrounds.ca/).
Students in all grades will have the opportunity to explore, learn, and be
creative in this natural outdoor learning environment.
LEARNING ENVIRONMENTWe hope to make this a community focus and we encourage you to find a way to be involved in this exciting and innovative project.
The natural learning environment will include:•A variety of surfaces (sod, dural lawn, mulch, sand, etc.) •A variety of native trees, shrubs and plants•Gardens for planting•An outdoor classroom•Music and art areas•An obstacle course•A sand area•A sideways tree•A cedar boardwalk
How you can help:•Support our fund raising-the plant sale will take place in May!•Donate your time for planting and other important activities•Donate money directly to the school for the project•Ask for local businesses to donate and deliver trees, shrubs, a large tree that’s fallen
PLEASE GET INVOLVED!Contact the school office with any questions you may have, or how you might be able to support us with this important project.
HELP OUR STUDENTS USE THEIR IMAGINATIONS AND
LEARN SURROUNDED BY ALL OF NATURE’S WONDERMENTS
“Traditional playgrounds decide for kids in advance how they will play: Swings are for swinging; slides are for sliding. But in a natural playground, it is not immediately clear how their elements should be incorporated, so it is up to kids to use their imaginations.” -Scott Blair, Canadian Playground Safety Institute
