Reflections ˜ Reflexiones Gospel: Mark 10:17-27
The rich young man in this story is like a mountain climber who
has almost reached the summit. But the final stretch will be more
difficult than the distance he has already come. He comes to seek
wisdom from Jesus about how to achieve everlasting life. He assures
the Good Teacher that he has kept the commandments since he was a
child. Jesus looks at him with love and challenges him to do one
thing more. If he wants to reach the summit of treasure in heaven,
the young man must sell his possessions and follow Jesus. This he
cannot do. So he goes away sad. Jesus assures his disciples that
entering the kingdom of God is no easy matter. Those who are
attached to their possessions will have a more difficult time.
However, those who rely on God to achieve the impossible can do all
good things. 1.) Place yourself in the sandals of the rich young
man. When you approach Jesus, what are you expecting? 2.) What is
your reaction to the one thing more Jesus says you must do?
Pastor s Message˜ Mensaje del Pa´rroco CAMELS AND NEEDLES
Boston College professors recently studied "super-rich"
Americans (worth $25 million or more). Surprisingly, wealth affects
every aspect of their lives, and often negatively. Marriage and
friendship can be difficult ("Do they love me or love my money?").
Rich parents worry that their children will fritter away their
lives. Jesus challenged the rich young man in today's Gospel to
free himself of the burden of wealth that was keeping him from the
fullest possible life with God. Wealth is not evil as long as we do
not let it own us. Wealth, in the form of skills, time, or money,
is not an end but a means: a means to create a home; raise
children; provide hospitality; to give time, attention, love,
charity, and money; and to share with church and community for the
well-being of all. Jesus promises that the one who gives up any
possessions for his sake will be saved. Copyright (c) 2011, World

Living Stewardship Now What portion of your spare time, your
abilities, and your money are you giving to Christ through his
church? Only you can give what you have--no one else can give it
for you. Copyright (c) 2011, World Library Publications. All rights

("¿Me aman a mí o a mi dinero?").
Copyright (c) 2011, World Library
Publications. All rights reserved.
Copyright (c) 2011, World Library Publications. All

Dear Parishioners, The Parish Office has received calls recently
about the problems with the bell system. The truth is age has
caught up with the system. The bells were not ringing at the
correct times or playing the selected music. It has become clear
that it has to be replaced. For the past months we have been
testing a new computerized system to see what is needed to have the
bells and music we have all become accustomed to, working again. I
would like to acknowledge and give my heartfelt gratitude to our
parishioners listed below who have already made their donations in
raising $10,000. If you are still interested in joining them,
please place your donation in an envelope marked “BELLS” and leave
it at the Parish Office. Thank you in advance for all you do to
make our Parish special.

WORDS OF WISDOM The spirit of wisdom, as we discover in today’s
first reading, comes to those who pray for her. Wisdom, like the
word of God, carries a message of consolation as well as of great
challenge. The Letter to the Hebrews tells us that the word of God,
infused with the wisdom of God, is “sharper than any two-edged
sword.” We cannot shrink from the wisdom of God, or from the word
that has the power to penetrate our hearts and minds. Jesus, the
living word of God, the embodiment of wisdom, has strong, deeply
penetrating words for the rich young man who comes to him seeking
answers to his most profound questions. Just when the young man
thought he had done enough to fulfill God’s commands, more was
asked of him. This is no less true for us. Copyright © J. S. Paluch

No
caso. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
